General :: Deleted Home Launcher - Cannot Navigate
Jun 14, 2012
I am using an LG Enlighten, not as a phone but simply something to connect to hotspots with, check my email, and such things. Since I was not doing anything vital with it, I didn't put much thought into backing anything up.
Now, irritated with the default web browser, Bing and suchlike, I downloaded a bloatware remover and deleted the browser, along with two or three programs that looked like Verizon bloatware. As it turns out, one of those was my home launcher.
I did back these apps up in the program itself, but that isn't much use since I can't even access the program without a home screen.
I realized what had happened when I pressed Back to get out of the app. Instead, it went to the last app I had used. And then the one before that, and before that, and so on. I tried to keep pressing back until it would take me to the market, where I could open up the bloatware removal app and restore the backups, but eventually I came to a black screen where I could do nothing at all.
I turned off the phone, and was unable to turn it back on without performing a factory reset. Now, the phone goes to the Activation screen, and I am able to connect to USB, but that's it. The escape sequence won't bring me to the home screen - the launcher is apparently still gone.
Is there a way that I can restore the home launcher?

I'm having trouble to figure out how to bring the paused Task back to foreground. As far as I understood, when I click HOME button while a task is running, the task will be paused (onPaused() of the current top-level activity will be called, right?). I think there might be a way to bring this paused task back to foreground since the task is still ALIVE, but I don't know how. Do I have to put some more codes in the activity (I mean the one that is paused)?

I have haptic feedback turned off, but the arrows you use to navigate the home screen still vibrate, as well as the luck buttons and widgets. Is this normal, or is this an issue? Also while in low light, or dark conditions, shouldn't the for hard keys light up?? Is this an issue if they don't, or just an affect of not having brightness set to auto?

Samsung GS II, I9100, international version running Android 4.04. Latest version of GO Launcher. Running GO Windows theme.
I cannot figure out how to add a new home page. I'm at ten right now. If I use Settings/Edit to get the multiple page view of home screens, there is no plus sign to add a home page. I must be missing something.

Well after downloading next Launcher I tried to set up my home screens with the same widgets I had on the stock launcher with no luck. It tells me there is a problem with the widgets tap to reload. When I tap they disappear.

My SGS2 with CM7 (currently 7.2) forgets which app I chose as home app. If I press the home button, the dialog to choose the home app pops up. If I select one, check default, it forgets this setting again, asks again, first it could last some hours, after a while this shortens to minutes. This bug occurs a about 4-5 weeks after a hard after reset, now the 3rd or 4th time. My guess is that some data storage file contains corrupt data.
I don't want to do another hard reset only for this one bug. So any way to delete data of an certain system app, a specific file or something else to reset the home app setting to a clear, hard reset like state?

I love CM7. I run it on my Droid Incredible and I wouldn't want to run any other ROM, but since I have the paid versions of both ADW and Launcher Pro I don't have any need for the free version of ADW that comes packed with CM7. I found a mod that replaces ADW with the default Gingerbread launcher, and I've found that I prefer the stock launcher over any of the replacements I've tried. It's fast, minimal, and it just works. My only problem is that launcher2 only has five home screens, and I want seven. A Google search brought me to a version of the stock launcher with seven home screens, and I was able to install it on the latest CM7 nightly, but whenever I pressed the phone icon I got an error message telling me that "this application is not installed on your phone". I tried the launcher on both OMGB and OMFGB with the same results. Is there a version of the stock Gingerbread launcher out there that I can use on CM7 that has seven home screens and a working phone shortcut?

I have a rooted Asus Transformer TF700 and got init.d working. I have it start eBay, Skype and Voice (I found the widget doesn't load until the app is started) with the sleep command in between each to ease the processor.
I would like to add a line at the end to return to the home screen. How I can implement the home button though adb shell?

So I was personalizing my phone today, when I removed the "Add a Contact" bar from the second screen to the left. No problem. I'll go look in the "+" categories and find it. I can't. Any ideas how to get it back? If you haven't changed any of the screens, scroll to the one just left of the first home screen...that bar.

I really hate the stock messaging app on the bottom of my Galaxy s2. I like using gosms cause i can lock it and keep it private. But the messages are showing up still in the messaging app, ( i thought i enabled only gosms) and of course, when i delete them, they get deleted in gosms too

With Google's voice action (or voice search), I can use the "navigate to" command to start the navigation app directly. However, this seems to work only with address, name of places. For example, I tried "navigate to 1234 main street" or "navigate to san jose airport" or "navigate to Starbucks on oakland road". The commands were recognized in all cases. For the last one, it prompted me with a list of choices for the end points, and once selected, proceeded correctly with the navigation.
However, if I say "navigate to John Doe home", although it also recognized the command correctly (i.e. it came up with the prompt "navigate to john doe home" and asked me to choose "go" or "cancel"), it would not come up with the correct address from the contact list as the end point to navigate to, but instead it would come up with a list of end points not related to John Doe at all, even if I have John Doe in my contact list (with the home address).
I googled around and it appeared that other users have also experienced similar problems, with some dating back 2-3 years ago. I just discovered this since I just switched from iPhone to a Samsung Skyrocket (with Gingerbread v2.3.6). Seems to be a simple problem to resolve. I can't believe that this problem is not (AFAIK) getting the attention of Google as I think this would be encountered by a lot of people.
Also I am wondering if there is a way to get around this beside giving the full address in the voice search command.

I saw Live Home today in the market. It looks exactly like ADW Launcher, but allows use of icon packs and adds a few more feature which I don't use (cube transitions between home screens for example). But Live Home allows icon packs ... which is big. Anyone have an opinion about this? ADW seems very stable. And I don't want to use Live Home if he is ripping off ADW (he did say it is based on ADW thought)

I`v tried a few different replacement home programs & at the moment quite like Desktop. I did like ADW, but the launcher and any themes were `stuck` in the internal memory - which I`ve got precious little left. Desktop seems to run great - but - when I connect the phone to the PC on a usb the launcher stops (as the sd card is unmounted). When I remove the usb I can reselect the launcher but the widgets disappear. Is this something specific to Desktop, the desire, android or just me ! I didn't seem to have a problem when running Launcher pro.

Sorry if this sounds silly, but what are the benefits of using a launcher or home screen replacement (launcherpro, ADW, etc?) I mean, they look like they are copies of Sense UI, so I really do not see the benefit if you are on an HTC phone. I could definitely see if for other Android devices, but I am just confused as to what the benefit is.

I have a some strange issue. I would like to get the package name of the current home screen. lets say we have two home screens : 1. default android home theme 2. 3rd party home theme. Assume both are installed and current home theme is 3rd party home theme.
Now I would like to get the package package name of the current home theme (3rd party). Is there any api which can give the current home screen package name? I can get the package name in ddms. But I want it pro grammatically.

I don't have the accurate terminology and maybe that's a part of my question. In the android home screen, we have the ability to slide the screen left and right and display multiple pages. Each of these pages has a different set of icons. in the mac world these would be called "spaces". What is it called in the android world. More importantly is there a standard control that can be used to achieve this effect ?

I have my screens all set up using launcher pro, I want to change a few things around or just start from scratch. Is there way to save my screens and then start from scratch? Or do I need to save it then remove all my widgets and start again that way? I want to be able to go back to it if I don't like what I come up with.

OK so I have launcher pro plus as my home replacement, but I wanted to go back to the stock home launcher and I cant. I tried home switcher, also tried clear home defaults too, nothing has been working. I went into manage apps and neither 1 is set as a default, so I cant clear the default. I tried a force stop on launcher pro but that didn't work either. I don't wanna un install launcher pro bc I have it set up nicely, I just want to set up the stock home for fun and giggles.

I just installed Launcher Pro Beta, and am trying to "flavor" up my EVO. I really used the stock sense widgets that toggled 4g, wifi, BT, etc, but am unable to find them with the new home launcher. Am i unable to use the previously installed default widgets with this launcher/home? How about the default weather/clock combo, i can't seem to find a way to add it either. I liked the simple look of the Launcher Pro icons along the bottom, that's all i really wanted changed.
EDIT - Found it, will need Beautiful Widgets or something similar

Is there an easy way to imitate the Launcher look and feel? I mean having three full screen views which can be switched between by sliding/dragging right or left. I had a look at the source code to see how it was done and found that the magic is done in the "com.android.launcher" package. I take it that it is inadvisable to use the same classes as those in that package due to them not being part of the official SDK and therefore up for change at any point? If so, is there a good way to get a similar effect from the official SDK? The Sliding Drawer would have given me what I needed if it was possible to have more than one defined, but that seems to not be supported. (the handles stack on top of each other) So you know what problem I'm trying to solve, here is some background: I've got the an application which shows a photo. I want to maximize the viewing area of the photo so it takes up most of the screen. At the same time I'd like the user to easily be able to bring into view the metadata of the photo. That is where I wanted the 'slide android view into view' functionality similar to that found in the Launcher and/or the Sliding Drawer.
