View 2 RepliesFrom the online articles and the encryption description i was left with the impression that i will need to enter the password only on boot.Well appears that once encrypted the only active unlock options become, face unlock, pin and password. All take too long for my daily use, and since you don't have to use the encryption password for unlocking (the phone is decrypted on boot) but other options like face unlock, why we can't unlock with the normal slider screen or at least pattern unlock? Is there a way to go around it and enable the slider unlock on an encrypted phone?
i know that decreases the security, but knowing that if i lose my phone, chances are the battery will die, and they will need to decrypt it then...
When I try to recover my apps using Titanium Backup's "Extract from Nandroid" feature, it says "Could not find any data in this TWRP backup"
The files in my TWRP backup folder are
data.ext4.win000
data.ext4.win001
data.ext4.win002
md5 for the above

I recently encrypted my phone(Xperia Z) without SD card in it. Now I have added a 64gb Sandisk card to my phone. Its working fine. My question is, will the sd card also be encrypted? How do I make sure that my sd card is also encrypted?

I know the backups exist, as when I'm in TWRP, I can hit RESTORE, and see my backups listed there, but if I goto ES File Explorer, and try to do a search for that same filename, I get no results.
From what I have read it is already possible to do so. ADB offers some commands to backup your whole internal disk directly to PC. Also there is a way to do so via fastboot. Thats both very nice but I would like to go one step further. I put many trust in backups like cwm or twrp. currently I'm using TWRP on my N4. The tools works just fine!!
I have around 13.8 GB of capacity overall! One backup made by TWRP takes about 1.5 GB. But thats only because the compression works this well. To get it the backup process started I need to free about 2.8 GB. Thats over 30% of my storage. Another point is that to have a proper backup I have to copy the backup to another storage eg my PC. So I was thinking:
Why can't we made this superb backups (compatible to CWM and TWRP) directly to PC?
I have a really odd problem recently i rooted my phone (sgs4) and used TWRP (and later CWM) to make a backup of my system via recovery. However, at one point the backup failed due to insufficient space on my internal card, and now the phone keeps warning me that the phone is full. However - and here's my stupid problem - I don't remember which of the two backup programs I used when this happened, and however I search the card (using Root explorer) I'm unable to find ANY folder named backup, twrp, clockworkmod or anything comparable. Now, the files MUST be on the card somewhere, considering used storage jumped with about 4,5gb. before and after this incident. Where such files might be hidden?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running the latest nightly CM11 on my LG G Pad 8.3 V500 and have the latest TWRP installed.
I was experimenting with a stupid app called LCDDensity for root and it caused my G Pad to be stuck in a bootloop. I was able to boot into TWRP and the first thing I did was to make a complete backup. I then tried to wipe cache and dalvik cache but the device was still stuck in the bootloop. This was the point were I did not know what elso to do and so I wiped everything and installed the latest nightly (I was running a previous version when the bootloop happened). Everything is working again and I am on the latest version now, but all my data is gone of course.
My Questions are:
If I restore the backup I made when the device was stuck in the bootloop, will this then cause a bootloop again, or can I savely restore the backup? I don't know if that makes any sense, but I am afraid to restore corrupt data somehow. What else could I have done to get the device to boot up again?
is there a TWRP backup utility for Pantech Flex?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a little experience using computers from late 1995 Year, and from year 2000 I am using also Linux from time to time, and very rare but it was a delight freeBSD. I have no experience on Android and MacOs.
Now, I all my family (father, mother, girlfriend and I) changed the phones on Android which is Linux based, but for ARM processors.
Anyway, I have played a little with Android 4 x86 on my laptop. From, my point of view, a Android Smartphone is just a little computer like an raspberry pi / pandaboard / beagle board. So, a mini computer with an Arm processor running a very small and tiny operating system max 8 Gb, when on my gentoo install I had been using about 30-40 Gb. I know, the size can be affected by the compiling flags but anyway.
Now, on all my system I had, from my experience I did 2 Backups, like this:
My laptop is backed-up on the External Hardisk number 1, and the External Hardisk number 1 is backed-up on the External Hardisk number 2.So, as it is a good practice to have a backup handy, I keep 2 backups in 2 different location in case of hardware failure / water flood etc. Some of the files I need are backed up in the cloud, on the internet.
I use to make IMAGES of the Operating System partition, and of the mbr , and of the partition table, with software like Acronis True Image, Paragon, DriveImage XML, Norton Ghost, Clone Zilla.
When I had to do data recovery I did an Acronis "sector-by-sector" approach image of the hardisk, and I recovered files from that image.
I assume that maybe I will need to get root on one or two phones, and one phone need's to be unlocked from the carrier.
Before doing this I would like to make a full backup of the phones.
1) How can I make a FULL backup of the android phones? In this moment my mother phone is a samsung galaxy mini2 Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 s6500 and mine is Sony Xperia L
2) a) If I will "unlock" the phone from the carrier (locked on orange, but i wish to use also Vodafone, I tim, I wind, moviestar, o2 etc)
b) If I will "root" the phone to gain administrator acces on it
After step A) and B) if I will restore the original backup, the phone will be "locked" back to Orange, and "un-rooted", or it will be "unlocked" and "un-rooted"?
3) Instead of having an hardisk like computer have, I guess the smartphone is using an "usb-stick/sd-card/ssdhdd"-like memory for storage of the operating system, so how can I see the partition table, the mbr, on the device?
I purchased an Acer Iconia A200. It took the system upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich without any problems. After upgrading, I chose to apply the "Encrypt Tablet" feature -- and now I regret that choice. The tablet won't take any more system updates, and apparently it can't ever successfully follow through on a factory reset.
Any way to decrypt an encrypted Ice Cream Sandwich tablet -- or at least if there's a way to factory reset it successfully?
I'm unable to wipe my encrypted device using TWRP. I'm running Android Revolution HD 22.0 on an HTC One. I had encrypted my device. Now whenever I try to use TWRP to wipe (so that I can upgrade Android Revolution), it fails:

How do I wipe without bricking my device?
I had to get a replacement phone. New phone came with 2.2, so obviously I need to root it. But my question is, can I make a nan backup of my old phone, and once my new phone is rooted restore to my old phones backup?
I have heard that a nandroid backup is saved in seperate folders depending on your phones serial number. I'm not sure how true that is. Someone said that I would have to make a nan backup on the new phone so it creates a seperate folder, and then copy my old backup into the new folder, and restore.
how the android OS is built and what goes on behind the scene. Most of my experience comes from Linux and programming in Python.
Now to my question, I have written a program in Python that I am currently running on my Linux devices to unpack encrypted (AES256) 7-zip files. I would like to be able to run this program on my Android devices as well. I need a third party application to unpack the 7-zip files on android in a command line like environment. The program needs to run in the background, no user interaction at all.
On my Linux devices I simply have 7-zip installed and then run a os.system("7zip command") to unpack my files.
what is the best backup app to use when your gonna switch phones? i mean everything. settings, dictionary, calendar, sms, apps, data saved by apps, etc.
View 17 Replies View Related I have a Galaxy SII i777 4.1.2, rooted. Things were going ok after the factory reset, but I noticed that the battery was taking forever to charge and was draining extremely fast. I don't know if the fact that the telephone was running my data manager, data usage defender, battery doctor, watchdog and memory booster for one day has anything to do with this (although the battery drainage and high consumption of data was before I installed those apps and it was the reason why I did installed them this time). But today (hours after I uninstalled battery doctor, data usage defender and memory booster) the battery got quickly drained and the phone seemed dead (it didn't want to turn on and i couldn't see the icon indicating it was charging when connected). So, I inserted my sister's battery, took it out, and put my battery again. This time the phone turned on, BUT I see a message saying "enter password to use encrypted device storage." I only use four passwords for all my accounts but none of them work. I have tried different wrong passwords (as recommended) like 30 times, and nothing happens. I read somewhere that I could start ODIN, which I'm not knowledgeable of. But I don't know what to do. I pressed the power button and the volume keys, and all is showing is a green man icon and a "Downloading" message. It's been like an hour already and it keeps "downloading."
I don't remember having encrypted my phone. And if I did, I could have only used one of my four passwords.
I recently had a problem with my LG Spectrum that required a hard reset to restart the OS. I wasn't aware the photos were being encrypted. When the reset was done the phone required I enter a passcode. I entered every known passcode I have and still could not get the phone to recognize the photos on the microSD card. Is there a work around for this process? I have over a years worth of pictures on the microSD card. The LG Spectrum model is a VS920.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Rooted Pantech Discover P9090 with ClockworkMod 6.0.2.8 recovery from Here. After which I proceeded to test out the phones "secure" (encryption) features. Now that the phone is encrypted, however, I cannot remove the encryption because I can not perform a factory reset. When attempting a factory reset from within the UI the phones attempts to reset as normal but at the point where the phone turns off and comes back with the android screen and a loading bar at the bottom the phone restarts. Doing a factory reset from the recovery fails do to not being able to load /data, /system /sdcard. Is there anything else I can try/do?

I'm trying out encryption, and have just encrypted the external SD card for now.My goal is to encrypt both the external and internal cards.
But to my surprise, I've noticed that the external card is accessible (I can read its contents) from recovery (CWM) without having to type any password...
Do any backup apps restore your phones icon and widgets. I don' want to have to re setup all the apps I have so I want something (if there is something) that can restore a phone to the way it was home screen and all.

One thing I am missing is: Configuration options for the IMAP account are not as fine granular as in the stock Motorola. Especially I can't configure to an IMAP server supporting the following:
* OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 LITERAL+ SASL-IR LOGIN-REFERRALS ID ENABLE STARTTLS AUTH=PLAIN AUTH=DIGEST-MD5 AUTH=CRAM-MD5] Dovecot ready.
Means: IMAP with STARTTLS and encrypted (MD5) password
What is supported by the 4.1.1: None, SSL/TLS, SSL/TLS (all certs accepted), STARTTLS, STARTTLS (all certs accepted). What I would need is STARTTLS with password encryption md5 (automatically detected or fixed configurable).
