General :: 7zip Unpacking Encrypted Archives Without UI?

Apr 7, 2014

how the android OS is built and what goes on behind the scene. Most of my experience comes from Linux and programming in Python.

Now to my question, I have written a program in Python that I am currently running on my Linux devices to unpack encrypted (AES256) 7-zip files. I would like to be able to run this program on my Android devices as well. I need a third party application to unpack the 7-zip files on android in a command line like environment. The program needs to run in the background, no user interaction at all.

On my Linux devices I simply have 7-zip installed and then run a os.system("7zip command") to unpack my files.

General :: Cannot Unzip Archives With Multilevel Folders

Jan 29, 2012

I have some zip archives people sent me that I cannot unzip on my phone or on my PC! I believe when these files were compressed, the source files to be extracted were multiple folder levels deep. I cannot extract them on my phone with any app I have tried, and when I try to use Unrar or 7-Zip on my PC, it says the files are corrupt.

Is there an Android app that can drill down to the lowest folder level to extract files?

General :: How To Decrypt Encrypted Tablet

Apr 14, 2012

I purchased an Acer Iconia A200. It took the system upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich without any problems. After upgrading, I chose to apply the "Encrypt Tablet" feature -- and now I regret that choice. The tablet won't take any more system updates, and apparently it can't ever successfully follow through on a factory reset.

Any way to decrypt an encrypted Ice Cream Sandwich tablet -- or at least if there's a way to factory reset it successfully?

General :: Users With Encrypted Phones

Aug 14, 2012

From the online articles and the encryption description i was left with the impression that i will need to enter the password only on boot.Well appears that once encrypted the only active unlock options become, face unlock, pin and password. All take too long for my daily use, and since you don't have to use the encryption password for unlocking (the phone is decrypted on boot) but other options like face unlock, why we can't unlock with the normal slider screen or at least pattern unlock? Is there a way to go around it and enable the slider unlock on an encrypted phone?

i know that decreases the security, but knowing that if i lose my phone, chances are the battery will die, and they will need to decrypt it then...

General :: Enter Password To Use Encrypted Device Storage

Dec 16, 2013

I have a Galaxy SII i777 4.1.2, rooted. Things were going ok after the factory reset, but I noticed that the battery was taking forever to charge and was draining extremely fast. I don't know if the fact that the telephone was running my data manager, data usage defender, battery doctor, watchdog and memory booster for one day has anything to do with this (although the battery drainage and high consumption of data was before I installed those apps and it was the reason why I did installed them this time). But today (hours after I uninstalled battery doctor, data usage defender and memory booster) the battery got quickly drained and the phone seemed dead (it didn't want to turn on and i couldn't see the icon indicating it was charging when connected). So, I inserted my sister's battery, took it out, and put my battery again. This time the phone turned on, BUT I see a message saying "enter password to use encrypted device storage." I only use four passwords for all my accounts but none of them work. I have tried different wrong passwords (as recommended) like 30 times, and nothing happens. I read somewhere that I could start ODIN, which I'm not knowledgeable of. But I don't know what to do. I pressed the power button and the volume keys, and all is showing is a green man icon and a "Downloading" message. It's been like an hour already and it keeps "downloading."

I don't remember having encrypted my phone. And if I did, I could have only used one of my four passwords.

I recently had a problem with my LG Spectrum that required a hard reset to restart the OS. I wasn't aware the photos were being encrypted. When the reset was done the phone required I enter a passcode. I entered every known passcode I have and still could not get the phone to recognize the photos on the microSD card. Is there a work around for this process? I have over a years worth of pictures on the microSD card. The LG Spectrum model is a VS920.

Apr 2, 2014

I have a Rooted Pantech Discover P9090 with ClockworkMod 6.0.2.8 recovery from Here. After which I proceeded to test out the phones "secure" (encryption) features. Now that the phone is encrypted, however, I cannot remove the encryption because I can not perform a factory reset. When attempting a factory reset from within the UI the phones attempts to reset as normal but at the point where the phone turns off and comes back with the android screen and a loading bar at the bottom the phone restarts. Doing a factory reset from the recovery fails do to not being able to load /data, /system /sdcard. Is there anything else I can try/do?

General :: IMAP Account Configuration - Missing Option STARTTLS With Encrypted Password?

Oct 14, 2012

I installed 4.1.1 on a MB525 (Defy) according to the honorable post in <http:[url]....

One thing I am missing is: Configuration options for the IMAP account are not as fine granular as in the stock Motorola. Especially I can't configure to an IMAP server supporting the following:

* OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 LITERAL+ SASL-IR LOGIN-REFERRALS ID ENABLE STARTTLS AUTH=PLAIN AUTH=DIGEST-MD5 AUTH=CRAM-MD5] Dovecot ready.

Means: IMAP with STARTTLS and encrypted (MD5) password

What is supported by the 4.1.1: None, SSL/TLS, SSL/TLS (all certs accepted), STARTTLS, STARTTLS (all certs accepted). What I would need is STARTTLS with password encryption md5 (automatically detected or fixed configurable).

Android : How To Play An Encrypted File In Droid?

Apr 14, 2010

I need to be able to play an encrypted file in Android. The file is AAC. The only way I can see to do this is either: decrypt the file to internal private storage and point the player at that file to play, or decrypt & decode the file to pcm and feed it to an AudioTrack. 1 isn't great because it takes a long time to do that. 2 isn't great either because I don't know how I can take advantage of the HW decoder to do this.

Motorola :: Droid X Encrypted Bootloader And Efuse Thread

Jul 1, 2010

I've updated this OP to make it easier for new comers to find some of the most important posts as well as a few important outside links that inform this thread. It is my personal feeling that if you are reading these forums, and considering buying ANY Android phone, this thread is a very important one to read. It is far better to be informed than to realize after you buy a product that it wasn't what you expected (I almost made this mistake). The main purpose of this thread is to discuss what a signed (encrypted) boot loader is, what the implications of having a signed boot loader are, whether or not the Droid X may have one, why you may care, what you may be able to do about it if you do care, etc, etc. This thread is filled with a lot of long posts (including this one), so prepare yourself for that. Not all of them have tons of merit (mine included) so keep that in mind. Below are some of the most informative posts you'll find in this thread. That said, I highly suggest further reading: there are many great ones that I haven't linked to here.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Best Notes Application / Sync Data Is Encrypted

Jul 31, 2010

For those of us Palm fans who have been searching for an application for notes/memo pad that can sync easily to the phone and laptop, the best one I have found so far is B-Folders. I have created notes on my laptop, edited them, deleted etc., then sync through WiFi to my HTC Hero easily. All notes are synced exactly, no duplicates, no weird stuff going on - and if I delete a note on my laptop, then it is deleted on my phone. It is phenomenal except that you can't yet sync using your cable (i.e. you always need Internet access to sync your phones). So this morning, Saturday 31 July, about 8.45 am, I emailed the company who makes it (Welcome to JointLogic!) and asked them when would we be able to sync with a cable i.e. direct to the computer without using internet. Less than 15 minutes later I got a response (remember, this is a Saturday morning): which was:

We are working on USB sync and we aim to make it available before the end of August. Until then you will be able to sync when there is a network connection. You can safely use public WiFi hot-sopts because the sync data is encrypted. How is that for great customer service. the app on your phone is free, but if you want it on your computer and to be able to sync, it will be around $29.99 but in my eyes, well worth it. There's nothing else out there like this as far as I can tell.

HTC Droid Eris :: Unable To Get Encrypted WiFi Router Broadcast

Apr 26, 2010

Friends are setting up a wireless router @ work. we all pitch in some cash to pay for the monthly fee. They want to keep it secure. If the router is broadcasting publicly, my eris sees it and will connect. As soon as it gets encrypted, or password protected, I drop signal and my phone doesn't "see" it. I've entered my mac address into the router in hopes that it will broadcast to me. Can't see it.

It won't even show as a "locked" or "secure" WiFi connection. I've set up the wireless preferences according to network ssid and correct password. No success. Is there something screwy with the eris WiFi system? Anyone else run into this problem? Why is it that I can use WiFi if it's an open, broadcasting signal, but can't use or see it when it's a password protected and privately broadcasting signal? Doesn't make sense to me. Is there an app for this?

thanks for the help!

General :: General Voice Search Punctuation With Non-English Languages?

Jan 5, 2013

It seems there is a general voice search / voice recognition issue with non-english languages. The problem is basically that punctuation is written in plain and not recognized. It seems to affect a number of devices (if not all?) running ICS / JB.

So period will write "period" and not "." .
Same for comma that will end in writing "comma" and not ",".
(this of course in each different Language)

This basically makes the voice recognition totally unusable and useless for anything but English. So far, this issue has been reported with the following languages:

French
German
Spanish
Italian

I'm not allowed to post links yet but if you go to Android official project page, in the Issues and search for punctuation, you'll basically see all those.

General :: Replacing Files In Rom (Cyanogenmod7) General

May 4, 2012

I am using cm7, but this is a general question about replacing files in roms. I have been working on an issue that involves opening the zip file and then edit and replace certain files. I have seen a few posts in the past where it says to replace certain files in a rom, but everytime that I do I get an error after flashing. After flashing and boots to the main screen that asks you to touch the android, I get an error that says "Sorry, the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly" and the only option is to click on Force Close, but it just keeps coming back. Something is definitely not right with replacing files in a rom, but Im not sure if there's even a correct way. Im using winrar as everyone has mentioned. I have tried using the Fix Permissions option in the Clockwork Recovery also, but no luck. Only option is to reflash. Does the whole rom need to be recompiled?
