May 18, 2012I have a bunch of MP3s on a windows PC shared over wifi LAN.
I want to use a old android device to plug into speakers in another room and access the shared files, search/filter and queue, play songs on the phone.
I know I could run a shoutcast server and just queue up songs on the pc but I would love to be able to use some sort of app that can scan all the shares and create a database that can be easily filtered/searched on the phone.

I do _not_ need to use PC's internet connection, I only want to access the PC itself. I want to access HTTP/FTP/SSH servers on the PC and its samba (Windows Network) shares via Android CifsManager app.
Is this possible using "reverse tethering" solution which is used to access PC's internet connectivity on Android device and uses some 3rd party app? Is there a simpler solution without using 3rd party apps? Is this possible somehow via adb?
My Android device uses Android 4.0.3 and is rooted. My Windows version is Windows 7 64-bit.

Mar 6, 2012I've been searching for an app or a way to be able to access the shared folders of my desktop PC in my android mobile (Huawei U8650 not rooted) and my tablet (Acer A100 also not rooted).
I want to be able to watch my movies in the shared folders or read my ebooks like I do from my laptop.The PC is connected with a wifi rooter as all the rest devices. Since the laptops can access the shared files, I guess my android devices should also be able to do it... but how...?

Mar 5, 2013I have a Samsung Galaxy 5 player running gingerbread. I'm trying to access files on it from my WinXP box via wifi. This seems like it should be a very common thing to do, but I simply can't find it. If I plug it into a usb port, I can access the drives. Can this be done via wifi?
Again, I want to access the android from the PC. Not the other way around.

I have no modem to connect my pc and and phone together, because i use phone's internet connection on my pc, so i don't need a modem. Because of this, i can't find my way to reach files on my computer using my phone. I set a wireless network on my pc, but android phones does not find the network i created ( i thing something with b/g/n ). Is there any way possible?

Nexus 7 2013 and Samsung Galaxy S4, both running ES File Explorer 3.0.5.3
Windows 7 x64 Pro (Hosting the files)
ASUS RT-AC66U
The system works just fine after a fresh reboot of my PC. After a few hours, I get the "Login Fails" error (plain text or SMB). The only way to fix it is to reboot my PC. I believe its a Windows 7 setting that causing this. I searched all over the net for a fix and none of them worked. I tried:
Enabling Guest Account
Changed Advanced Sharing Settings
Set "Everyone" as read in the File Share Window
Enabled Inbound/Outbound rules in the Advanced Windows Firewall
Enabled sending unencrypted passwords to SMB via Local Security Policy
I can go into more detail of the fixes I tried if needed. What is an alternative to sharing files from a Windows 7 machine to Android devices? I feel like Ill never get ES File Explorer to work.

Sep 28, 2010Can android apps share access to the audio output? I sometimes use Maps Navigation, which will give audible turn by turn instructions. I plug the EVO to my car stero using a patch cord so that I hear the instructions over my radio.
However, if I'm using another application that outputs audio, like Pandora or the music player, they go silent as soon as Maps speaks an instruction.
What I would like is for the apps to be able to share the audio output with some kind of priority set, so that Pandora would pause momentarily while Maps spoke an instruction and then resume.
Is that possible?

Mar 15, 2013Ive hooked my phone up to my pc so many times without error when I had Windows on my PC...and used ODIN to flash back to stock after a mishap.... I cant even count.. within last two weeks Ive moved to ubuntu instead of windows..I set up everything on my phone on ubuntu..sdk and everything...so Ive been building a rom for the fassy and i was testing something I made and something went wrong..so I now have no recovery..no way to get my phone back..Im up and running on the rom but it will not due ( no gaaps ) . So when i plug my phone into a windows pc it will not recognize it for ODIN...in device manager it labelled as " Linux file-cd gadget USB device" and cant install the driver to use ODIN.

After research, it seems there is no concept of run time share library among applications in Android. So I am looking for a way to linked the share component with other applications at compile time. Applications which will use the component can come from external, therefore I will only provided the compiled file. I would like to build the component into own apk or jar file, can external application include my jar/apk file into their package and be able to start my activity? Sep 17, 2012The situation is this: at work the computers are heavily locked down. By that I mean that you can not download and install anything, no cd rom access and no usb access. they run win xp (some of you may be too young to have heard of this)
I have recently discovered, however, that when i plug my galaxy s3 in, the pc sees it as a digital camera, and i can access every folder on the internal sd card through windows explorer. i can then transfer any file i like to the computer This never happened on my g note, nexus s, or any other device.
Now, I can only confirm that the above works on xpower 2.5 ics custom rom. when I changed to hypergalaxy jb rom, there was no access to my phone via the pc.
how and why this works, and how i might use a hack to enable any usb device on such a locked down pc?

At this point it finds the IP address of the laptop Im working on. using DHCP. But when I click on it, it keeps asking for a user name and password. dont have one for XP and no password on the files.
