Eclipse Doesn't Offer To Add Import Or Show Functions
Jan 28, 2012
Somehow I've screwed up my Eclipse installation. Used to be if I added a new instance of an Android object (say a TextView) and I right clicked on the error, it would offer to add the import. Also if I had an Android object and typed it followed by a period, it would show me all the allowed functions. Now it doesn't do either, just shows me java info. Don't know what I did, since this used to work. I updated everything, but still no joy.

I'm using Windows 7 and installed the 64 bit version of Eclipse 3.5.2. I then installed the Android ADT plugin, but when I try to configure it in the Windows > Preferences dialog, the Android Plugin doesn't show up in the left pane. Instead I see DDMS. This prevents me from specifying the location of the Android SDK (unless there is another way) to give me the appropriate templates and such.

With 2 million ipads sold, I don't understand VZW's rationale for not offering some kind of wifi hotspot app that you'd pay $30/month for on a month by month basis. It seems like it would be such an easy money maker.

classname="com.android.ant.SetupTask"
classpathref="android.antlibs"/>

I have an Android Eclipse project and an associated Android Test Eclipse project checked into a subversion repository. Given a checked out working copy, how do I bring the Android Test project into an Eclipse workspace? It's easy to add the Android project to the workspace (just File->New Project->Android Project->From Existing Source and point it at the directory in the svn working copy). But, the 'New Android Test Project' does not have an option to create from existing source.

I have created an hprof file by inserting the statement Debug.dumpHprofData("/sdcard/myapp.hprof"); in my app's code; I have then run the hprof file through hprof-conv and opened the converted file in Eclipse.
Following the advice of the MAT "Cheat Sheet" I have obtained an analysis of my app's memory usage by going to "Leak Identification -> Component Report" entering "com.prepbgg.*" and hitting Finish.
I know that my app is consuming large amounts of memory: in particular at the stage where I called dumpHprofData it had a one megapixel bitmap object and a canvas that must have consumes several hundred KB. (I also suspect that it is leaking significant amounts of memory because performance degrades severely after the screen has been rotated a few times.)
However, the Component Report for com.prepbgg.* shows total memory of only 38.7KB. The Histogram view shows for android.graphics.Bitmap (presumably this is the total of all apps including mine) 404 objects and Shallow Heap 12,928. Is that 12,928 bytes?
Clearly, my app consumes more than 38.7KB and the Bitmap far more than 12,928 bytes. Where am I going wrong? How can I see the total memory consumed by my app?

I just upgraded from my old Droid X to a LG Spectrum.
Now whenever I connect it to USB, for some reason it won't show up in DDMS or Eclipse. I downloaded the USB driver from LG, and tried every kind of USB mode on the device. And yes I have USB debugging on.

I'm using the Android plugin for Eclipse on OSX, latest versions of everything. When I run or debug my app, Eclipse is very inconsistent about uploading/installing the new APK. Nothing I seem to do has any effect on this. Clean builds, debug, whatever, there seems to be about 50/50 chance of installing the APK. Or not. If not, then I have to kill the emulator and try again. What is going in?

When I look at my eclipse android preferences, I can't see any of the SDKs I have installed.I know I have installed the SDKs properly using the SDK manager. This is what the android-sdk directory, along with the platforms directory, looks like:
I am using Eclipse Version: 3.7.2, Build id: M20120208-0800. The original SDK I installed prior to using the android eclipse plugin was eclipse-SDK-3.7.2-win32-x86_64. This environment is running on windows 7.Is there a file missing in the directories posted or are they noted name properly? (i.e. should 'android-15' be named 'Android 4.0.3').

I'm using Eclipse on Windows to develop Android application. So when I'm trying to run the app, the system outputs to console
CODE:............
starts the emulator, but doesn't upload the .apk and doesn't start the activity. So, app is not started anyway.
I found a "solution" here, but it's unclear and seems to not work. For example, I don't know, which "emulator processed" are meant to be killed. I found adb.exe only. And that's the main point: sometimes I'm lucky enough to kill all that they wanted and start the app. But it's undetermined.

I have a problem installing the ADT plugin in Fedora's version of Eclipse. I'm not sure it is a problem with the plugin, it's probably more Fedora's team fault (they heavily personalized and modified eclipse in Fedora's repository).
I installed the version of Eclipse that is included in Fedora's official repos, which is based on version 3.4.2 build 20090211-1700. I've followed the step-by-step instruction provided in Android's website. The problem arises when I go into the Help -> Software updates window. When I select the two plugins to install, it lets me install the DDMS, but not the Developer Tools. If i try (select Developer Tools then click Install) it gives me the following error message (after calculating space and dependencies):
CODE:................
At first, I thought I had not installed some packages (org.eclipse.equinox.p2.iu and/or org.eclipse.wst.sse.core), so I opened YumEX and searched for those pacckages... but they are not available in Fedora's repositories.

I spent a full day to get my Android SDK sources in my setup and compiled it successfully by doing the File System for x86 and also the SDK, everything was fine but when I tried to use it in my environment (Eclipse) and tried to compile my application (which is working fine on Froyo 2.2), I'm seeing some errors, which seems that I did not get the entire SDK with all the base packages included.
Steps to reproduce:
# repo sync to android sources. # make # make sdk # make Eclipse to point to the new SDK, generated at: .../out/host/ linux-x86/sdk/android-sdk_eng.david_linux-x86/ # generate a new AVD # launch it and run the application
If I'm missing something else.

I'm trying to create a ProgressDialog for an Android-App (just a simple one showing the user that stuff is happening, no buttons or anything) but I can't get it right. I've been through forums and tutorials as well as the Sample-Code that comes with the SDK, but to no avail.
This is what I got:
CODE:..........
I've also tried adding pd.show(); and messed around with the parameter in new ProgressDialog resulting in nothing at all (except errors that the chosen parameter won't work), meaning: the ProgressDialog won't ever show up. The app just keeps running as if I never added the dialog.

I'm currently on Android Gingerbread 2.3.6 with Holo Launcher, then tried multiple Launcher e.g ADW, GoLauncher, SSLauncher but none of them shows the UCCW Widget. I've wasted the whole day trying to find a solution but I give up and ask the good people here instead.

So this is what's happening to me: Yesterday I tried to upload some music (mp3 format) to my HTC Legend. And none of the newly copied tracks show up on any of my media players. I can reach them in Astro and such and even play them but there is no info showing up on the media player screen. I tried to erase cache of the MP and the media, tried to reboot the device but nothing happened. Funny thing though: When I erase some of my old mp3s and then load them back up, media players show them properly. I really don't know what to do please somebode help. The only thing I didn't try is restoring to factory default.

I'm writing an Activity which fetches some XML from the web via HTTP and then parses it into a DOM. It then pulls some required data from the DOM.
As you can imagine, this takes a few moments, so I put that code into it's own thread and then tried to set up a ProgressDialog to display while the user is waiting for that to complete.
The problem is that the ProgressDialog doesn't display at all. If I remove the call to dismiss() then it displays after the work is done and, obviously, just sits there...
Here is my code:..................
The constructor of the FighterVersesDownloader is where all the work in terms of HTTP and DOM is done.
Any ideas on what I'm missing? I've seen a few similar threads on this using AsyncTask, but I wanted to use good old fashioned Threads directly and the solutions suggested don't apply.
