HTC EVO 4G :: Trouble Connecting To Public WiFi Network
Jun 10, 2010This is my first Android phone so I might just not know what I am doing. At work we have an open wi-fi network for patients and visitors to connect to. When they connect for the first time they are automatically re-directed to a sign on page where they must provide their e-mail address. After that they are free to use wireless internet services. My EVO will not re-direct to the page. When I tried it on a friends iPhone it worked just fine. My phone has not been rooted and i have tried both the default browser and two that I downloaded from the market. The phone is connecting to the WiFi and getting a strong signal.

Aug 21, 2012I had used some public wifis in mc donalds and airport in the past. I never had any problems. Yes, some required sms verifications, but anyways, my phone could connect to them.
After a month, i went to the airport and mc donalds again, but i cant connect to any of them. There were hotspots in other places as well, run by different telecom companies. all of them were open networks. but i just cant connect. I can still connect to my home WiFi.
Its not a ROM issue. i have tried several ROMs. I have never changed my baseband, mac address or anything like that.
Is it possible that my hardware is damaged? (but i can connect to my home wifi, which is also open) Or my mac address/phone number is "globally blocked"? (i had tried hotspots of different telecom companies. nd i dont know if theres a way to get my phone number by just trying to connect to a WiFi) Or have they installed something like "connect only with laptops"? does anything like that exist?

Mar 30, 2014I am using WiFi as a Guest with guest password qt my office. But dont want to open/show my ID / mac address or any Detail to administrator.
Q1. Is there any APP which can keep me & my device detail invisible while i am surfing / downloading any file via browser or torrent?
Q2. Gmail etc sites are blocked in WiFi , is there any app which can browse to these URL's.

Dec 2, 2013My laptop has 3 security levels for when using WiFi. For a home WiFi the least secure and a public WiFi the most secure. I'm using a public WiFi now and have searched my tablet settings for those sort of options, but can't find anything.

HTC Desire :: WiFi Connection Not Working After Using WiFi Hotspot?
Oct 8, 2010I decided to try the WiFi hotspot available through 2.2. GREAT! Actually worked quite a bit better than I thought it would. Only trouble is, ... now I'm back at home, it fails to connect to the home network.
+ Restarting phone
+ Re-entering password
+ Forgetting network + refinding
WiFi sees the network, says "Connecting", comes up "Failed to connect", "Scanning" and loops on that sequence. I know the router's working because this laptop is using it right now

Nov 21, 2010OK all you developers there is not a GOOD wifi hot-spot locater out there! I want to be able to put in my zip code or have it pull from my gps where I am and then tell me where the nearest wifi spots are. I used to have an awesome app on my Blackberry. It was user driven--as in we could add hot-spots and rate them. Jii Wire is trying. Their Iphone app works awesome . . their Android app . . well it stinks! Given it is a new app and hopefully they will continue to make it better but seems rather slow in coming. Google places has a wifi finder but unfortunately there are too many morons that don't get how important is to have their business listing be correct--if they have claimed it you can't even add it for them.

Dec 31, 2009I want my Android phone to share its internet connection with other wifi enabled devices. Seems so cool to have a laptop and a couple ipods or something sharing the connection.
I know this can be done if the phone is rooted, or whatever you call it, but isn't there an app that I can download and make it work without needing to hack the phone? I know PDA net works pretty well, but that's not quite what I'm looking for. You have to connect the phone to the computer via USB or bluetooth, and it gets on the internet through there. I want to be able to have multiple devices quickly and easily jump on the Androids connection.

Aug 20, 2012I'm getting a galaxy s3 very soon and I'm thinking about getting a nexus 7 with it.But as you know,nexus 7 doesn't have 3G so my only option to access network on it when there's no wifi network available is to use my future s3 as a wifi hotspot.So my questions are:
1-Is data consumption when using the phone as a wifi hotspot the same as if I'm normally using 3G on the phone itself ?
2-How long can an android(specifically the S3 if it matters much) act as a wifi hotspot before the battery runs out ?

Jul 5, 2010Just thought I'd let everyone know, it DEFINITELY is possible. Before having an EVO I asked around all over and not many people would commit to saying it worked. I'm just here to say it works GREAT.
just got pinged at 95 ms and it works fine. Halo 3, Warcraft 3... they all work fantastic. Pretty much no different than my previous "high speed" cable connection.
I'm paying the $30 for the mobile hot spot and I have to say it's 100% worth it. I still only have 3g, no 4g yet... can only imagine how nice it will be then.

Jun 13, 2010Quick background, I am still on a $30/month SERO plan with my Touch Pro 2 and waiting to get a $10/24 month discount but Sprint has put a halt to all discounts for the time being, so I'm going to try when the iPhone 4 comes out and when Verizon gets their Droid X. I was going to sell my EVO but it seems I might as well keep it since I'm going to eventually use it.
So in the meantime, I'm going to hold onto the TP2/SERO and use the EVO when I am within a WiFi network. Thing is sometimes I want to bring the EVO out, so I thought maybe I could open up a WiFi hotspot with HTC's Wifi-Router software and connect to it with the EVO. But the EVO isn't recognizing the WiFi hotspot. My laptop can recognize it though. I tried to add the WiFi network but it'll say "Not in range, remembered".

Sep 2, 2010I was excited to use the new phone specifically for the wifi hotspot. I could not believe when it did not work right away that I needed to tack an extra 30 a month in order for sprint to activate the thing.
So I am wondering if there is a better way to use the phone as a wifi hotspot without haveing to eat the service charge. I seen something about a way that involved root access which I could probably do but I was hoping there was a better way or maybe going to be a better way with android 2.2?

Sep 8, 2010I'm wanting some advice from those who have used their Desires as a hotspot (either on 2.2 natively or with an app). How reliable and how fast is it?
The reason I ask: I'm thinking of getting an ipad (cue the abuse!) and rather than spend he extra on the 3G model I was considering using my Desire as a wifi hotspot.
Previously, I had an iphone 3G jailbroken and used the mywi app to do what I've just explained but with my laptop. It worked really well although not flawlessly.
Also, after some testing with the same sim card, I found it to be a bit slower than either a dongle or by connecting the phone via USB to the laptop (the latter of course won't be an option with the USB-less ipad!)
My suspicion is that I'm probably better off spending the extra as it probably won't be flawless, or as fast, using my phone as a wifi spot.

HTC Incredible :: Wifi Hotspot Vs Wireless Tethering
Sep 19, 2010I recently rooted my Incredible and installed Cyanogen 6.00 RC3. I liked some things about it but missed some of the stock HTC widgets and apps. The Cyanogen rom had wifi hot spot, and it worked great. I could connect more than one computer to it, as it acted like a Hotspot.
Today i reflashed to Virtuous 2.7 Rom, which is alot like the stock 2.2. I got back the things I missed in Cyanogen but no wifi hotspot. Instead, there is "Wireless Tethering" which doesn't seem to work. The latest version is installed, version 2.0.5-pre9. Neither of my computers can "see" the connection.
Is there any way I can get the wifi hot spot app that was in Cyanogen and install it on my phone with the Virtuous 2.7 Rom? wireless tethering really doesn't do what I want it to.
