View 2 RepliesI am developing an app on Android that will randomly pick and display an inspirational quotation (or verse) from a large collection of quotations. On Android I can choose between a flat file and an SQLite database. The app should satisfy the following conditions:
Be scalable to 10^6 quotations and/or verses
Be very fast (i.e. retrieve and display a quotation, immediately at the touch of a button)
Be able to load new quotations from an external source (in a format I have not yet decided)
What data format must I use?
This is off topic (off Android really), but does anyone know where to find good advice on moving to a "paperless office" using cloud software.I want to keep all my stuff online using a scanner and cloud based software. I'm posting here because many on this forum are software junkies and would at least know a few forums to direct me to.Actually, to bring it back to Android, I will be using my smart-phone to access the cloud to see my docs, which is a big reason I want to move to the "cloud."Here is my main question: What is the best cloud-based tool to store electronic documents? Google Docs, Evernote, or DropBox?

It connects to your home network either via wifi or ethernet and can control 3 IR emitters or 3 IR blasters or any combination of 3 of those. If I write an app for this thing, would anybody actually be interested?

There's quite a bit of info including geotags and these are going to be mapped on my app. The developer site has the very informative piece of information:You can use the network (when it's available) to store and retrieve data on your own web-based services.

For example, imagine playing Tic-Tac-Toe; but I'm the X's on my phone and the O's are my brother on his Android phone. I think it can be done via application specific messaging. Looking to see if it is possible, and, if so, how to send a message from one application to another on another device.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have connected my Android application to a Windows desktop machine via Bluetooth. The application interacts with the machine. At the end of the interaction the application on the desktop closes the socket that was opened between the Android and the desktop application. Right when socket.close() is called on the Windows machine my Android app pops open a dialog saying that the application has stopped unexpectedly and then it quits. I have a breakpoint on the line in the ConnectedThread (like in the BluetoothChat sample) where I read the InputStream on the Android and that is not hit. I also have a breakpoint in the catch statement for the try surrounding the place where I read the InputStream. That one also does not get hit. So I have no idea how I can catch this error. Is this a bug?

Can someone please tell me where I'm going wrong with this piece of code? Basically I want the app to download a .png file, display it to the user and also save it to the sd card for future reference. It seems to be all going fine until the while ((len = webstream.read(buffer)) > 0) part; as the debugger doesn't reach the breakpoint I've put in here, and I have a directory of empty .png files. I have the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission declared in my Manifest.......

I'm developing an image editor application for Android. I have a big problem: I haven't a mobile with Android. I found a person that helps me to test the application and I found many problems. The application works in the emulator perfectly but in the mobile the application constantly mistakenly ends. I want to print a log similar that the show in ddms in a file on the SDCard. I did it with a FileWriter but it isn't the same that I can see in ddms.
Is it possible to show the same output as ddms in a file?
If not possible I would like to get as much information as possible. The person who has the mobile don't have knowledge of programming and I have not got close.
I want to create a file out side the application and memory card. How to create it? I know how to create it under application but how to create it outside the application?
