In the application I am developing, I would like to send messages in the form of JSON objects to a Django Server and parse the JSON response from the server and populate a custom listview.
From the little JSON knowledge I have, I thought this format for the response from server

How much knowledge of JSON should I have to accomplish this purpose? Also it would be great if someone could provide me links of some tutorials for sending and parsing JSON Objects.
Is there any advantage using GSON Parser rather than 'get' command for parsing JSON responses?

I have Parsed the Json Response and Now I want to use the BaseAdapter Class in my Application. I have a rough Idea about the BaseAdapter Class but not very clear about the same. what exactly the Base Class does.
Also do I need to use the Getter and Setter Methods if I am using the BaseAdapter Class in my Application?
Just to get this out in the open I am new to JAVA, KSOAP, and JSON. So I'll try to explain this the best I can.
A while ago I created a webservice to be consumed by Blackberry Apps that we're built using the plug in for Visual Studio. Now the project I am working on, I want to consume the same webservice for Android devices. For the most part I have the base code for the Android app done and working. Here's my problem:
I can successfully call the webservice and get a response. I know from creating the webservice that it sends a JSON response. My problem is trying to parse through the JSON response. I have found a few examples that I have been suiting to my needs however I am hung up on one thing.
In the JSON each element is preceeded by "anyType" which is forcing my code to return no results (Ultimately I am binding the data to an ArrayList) Here's what I get if I "getProperty(0).toString()...anyType{Artist=anyType{TrackName=Champagne Supernova;};
Here is the code I am using to parse the JSON Object....

I have a feeling I will need to implement a Class, and Getters/Setters on the Android side. I'm just not sure how to go about doing that.
Here I am posting the Json Response:

I want to know that is it possible to implement the push notification in Android 1.6. If it possible.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know there had been a buzz around push messaging. my client has a chat application that allows chat/collaboration on desktops on which i use AJAX. We are using PHP for this on server end.
What i have to develop a client for android. here i have to develop a system using Push Technology, since it is not expected when the next message come.
I cannot use polling (at specified time) since this will cause battery lag.
I am doing lots of Research on push notification but i don't understand how to implement in android 1.6. I want to ask what is the requirements for this? which type of information we get from the server end either in tags form or just information? what will be the input or output regarding this.Which input i give to the server and which output comes from the server. is there any device id to be require for this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWas just curious if there were any multi IM clients (meaning, ones that have AOL, Yahoo, Facebook, MSN etc all in one) that had push notifications? The one thing I miss on my Blackberry was the IM+ program. I could set it so that I could receive IM's via email (which come's in handy when working in a hospital and the signal goes out at times).
So whenever someone messaged me, I would get it in my email when I had a signal and respond back via email. Is there anything like this out there for me on my HTC Hero Firmware 1.5? I currently use the free eBUDDY program and have slightly tried out the free IM+ and Palringo. But I am not having any luck with finding one that has the push notification.
There are currently push notifications available for iPhones, Palm Pre and Blackberries each provided by their respective manufacturer. However I have heard nothing for Androids (probably because google does not actually sell the phones themselves.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am currently working on a project which requires a server to request data from the devices which are currently connected to the server. Meaning, first the server finds out which devices are connected to the server and then sends an application specific message to the client device which should wake certain functionality present on the client, like for example send out its current location.
I was looking into XMPP service which looked promising since it works as a PUSH notification. The <presence> in XMPP can be used to check if the device is currently connected and has subscribed to the server. Since every android user has a gmail account, I was thinking of using the gmail xmpp service to connect /subscribe to the server. Then send specific message to the client, i.e x...@gmail.com. But if a message is sent this way the client app gets the message as well as the native gtalk client. So how do I go about intercepting this so that it doesn't show up on the gtalk client but my app still gets it.
push notification is becoming a standard feature for smartphones, is google working on it ? apple's done it -not quiet there yet but close...

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to intercept an SMS with BroadcastReceiver as for example here but without showing any notifications to the user and immediately deleting the message that contains for example some keyword
What I need is to have some communication between android phones, one to one, and I thought that sending SMS messages would solve the problem, but the SMS notification are not needed for that, maybe the WAP PUSH messages would better for that but I have no idea how to send them from android phone.
If two or more applications are installed on the phone and those are using broadcast receiver to listen and some message comes .Now in case of push notification how can we distinguish the incoming message is for which application?
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy husband and i just got Droid X's. We have a business with a website and associated webmail. Our email address is an IMAP account created by our website developer. After trying to configure the embedded mail program, we installed K9 based on a lot of good reviews on this site. We've got it working, the only issue is we can't seem to get it to automatically notify us when a new email comes in as the phone does with Gmail. The notification doesn't come in at all - you have to go into K9 and "Get Mail". We have it set to sync all folders.

Originally, a week or so ago, i was receiving the Push Notifications. Now it is NOT sending a notification, on either v1.0.3 or v1.0.4. And yes, the Push Notification is check marked.
I have 2 friends that have the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S model and are getting their notification when i play a word against them. One has v1.0.3 and the other v1.0.4.
