I need to add a shake feature that will refresh my Anroid application.All I find of documentation involves implementing the SensorListener, but Eclipse tells me it's deprecated and suggest SensorEventListener. Anybody that has a nice guide to how I go about creating this "shake controller"?

The Twitter application for Android has a nice way of refreshing the listview by pulling down and automatically refreshing the data source.

After implementing some Android Apps, including several Map activities, I try to refresh the activity when the GPS listener's onLocationChanged() mehtod is called. I have no idea how to tell the map activity to refresh on its own and display the new coords. the coords to store will have to be in global values, so that the location listener will have access to it. In my sample GPS-class (see code below) I just changed the text of a text view....but how to do that in map view?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got the weirdest problem ever with my HTC Hero.The gmail application does not refresh automatically so as to fetch incoming e-mail. Even worse, it doesn't even do that when I manually do that (menu --> refresh)There is one situation: If I change one of the settings for Labels ("description = select which labels are syncronised") it does fetch e-mail from my inbox, but only if I manually refresh. It doesn't make any sense that my gmail application can only fetch new mails after a (random) modifcation in my settings. I would like my gmail to refresh .... well.. as often as possible and automatically, since I will not know beforehand when someone has sent me a mail.
For the moment my label settings are as follows:days for syncronisation: 1 day
labels
inbox: syncronise for all items
with star: syncronise for all items
eehh. well actually all my folders are "syncronise for all items"
I have a very hard time with the slide to answer feature. It frequently takes me 3-5 tries to answer a call. I would much rather be able to touch to answer. I do realize that there's a slim chance of answering calls while in my pocket, but I'd rather that then fight with the phone. Does anyone know of an application for this? I've searched various forums and there are no current threads regarding this.

1. Shake to full brightness. When it's too bright to see the screen, it's a PITA to try to get the brightness turned up.
2. Shake to current phone call. Occasionally, I exit the phone app and it's frustrating not to be able to hop back over there quickly.
3. Shake to unlock. It's annoying to always be swiping when I just want to quickly check something on my phone. A quick shake would be much easier as an option.
Is there any Listener able to listen for shake movement. when someone shakes the phone an event should be triggered ,how I'm supposed to do that ,any idea on this topic is appreciable.

This all seems straightforward enough.But I'd love to know the direction of the shake. So, if the user is shaking backwards and forwards, I want to know if the device is moving away from the user, or back towards him/her. I can't find any way of telling this.

Is it true that the only way to do this is to hold a wake lock? I suppose this would consume a lot of energy and drain the battery very fast.Is there no way to wake up the phone whenever a shake movement occurs? Maybe with the native sdk? View 1 Replies View RelatedHas anyone implemented an Android Shake Detector that works well on most phones?I thought it would be fairly simple to implement but I keep getting false results. Basically, what I'm doing is setting up a sensor Listener, checking to make sure it is a SensorManager.SENSOR_ACCELEROMETER event, then only checking the event if the last event I received was more than 50 milliseconds ago (to try to reduce the amount of checking I do).Then I look for 3 "Shakes" within 4 seconds.A "Shake" to me being a speed reading of over 1000 followed by a speed reading of less than 400 within 1 second. If I don't get three "Shakes" within 4 seconds then the counter is reset to zero.At times it seems to work well but I continue to have instances where I just pick up the phone, and it triggers all three shakes, which makes very little sense to me because at other times, I can physically shake the phone quite hard, and not trigger all three shakes.As I said.. it works about 90% of the time correctly, but a 10% error rate is making the feature I want to implement useless.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a bunch of live wallpapers for sale, and have a lot of 1-star comments that just say "Doesn't open". This is because there's no launcher activity, so the open button is greyed out after download. I'm attempting to fix this by including an activity that explains what to do, and I'm trying to avoid useless app clutter by disabling that activity once they've successfully used the wallpaper. This seems to work fine, the problem is the app icon doesn't go away right away. It stays in the app drawer and if you tap it you get a "this has been disabled" message. Eventually it will be removed if the phone is rebooted or if the home app is restarted. I'd like to clean this up. Is there a way to tell Home to refresh this list, or to otherwise tell it to remove the icon from the listing? It seems a bit rude to process kill Home for this purpose, and clearly something like this happens when an app is installed/ uninstalled.
