I am developing droid apps with eclipse (new to both) and have a basic Layout question. When using the layout tab (rather than the coding tab) in my main.xml, I am trying to create a home screen for when my app opens.
There is going to be the logo at the top center, then 3 simple buttons below, all centered. How do I go about formatting the Logo so it maintains a size relative to the person's screen size, and stays in the center?
I don't want to write sloppy code to where my program looks fine (UI wise) on my screen and is poorly formatted on other's screens. Also, is there good documentation explaining all of the Property values in the layout view?

I tried Home++ yesterday and didn't like it too much although I may just have to try it again. I didn't care for that "power strip" in Home++ either (can you turn it off?). I wished it would import all the icons from my regular home screen into Home++ so I don't have to re-create everything. Does anyone else out there have a better home screen replacement program? I saw people talking about GDE but I couldn't find the actual application in the Market Place. I also looked at the Panda Home but from the screen shots, it looked weird. I like the plain-jane version that came with my phone. I don't want fancy skins or colors or bells and whistles.

I got a question about screen orientation in Android Home screen. The scenario is as following. A G-sensor detects the movement on the device. Then it rotates the screen. If the device is portrait mode, the system sets to landscape mode. With G-sensor, theres is a SensorService to detect that and do some things to reach the function. I want to know how to reach that? Is there a API or a event to do that? I means that hall system, not a activity!

Is there a way to make the home screen change orientation with the accelerometer? On my phone, it will only change when I pull out the physical keyboard, which is not really what I'm looking to do most of the time.It changes just fine in all other applications, but the home screen doesn't. Is this a flaw with my phone or a design decision?

Rooted my replacement Vibrant but didn't wanna remove the bloatware right away in case future froyo required it. So, I tried just freezing the apps with Titanium. This makes sure they never start up when you turn your phone on and they are removed from the app drawer. You just unfreeze them whenever you want. Anyway, it makes the app drawer/homescreen scrolling a lot smoother.

I have some ideas about running some anti-piracy measures for my app so I wondered if I could do this to sign the application on install. Running the code on first launch is no good, because someone could still copy out the apk without running it.

Is there an app to replace the "Car Home" program that automatically opens when the Motorola Droid is placed in the car dock? It is bad enough that this screen comes up everytime you dock the phone in the car, but it is even more annoying that the "home" button is hijacked so that anytime you press it from any other program it takes you back to the "Car Home" instead of the main home. I would love to have an App that would allow you to designate a different program to open when in the dock, such as Quick Dial.

Just curious to see what programs people are using to create wallpapers for the Hero. I'm using a program called Android Converter. It's a music, video, and wallpaper converter in one. I guess it gets the job done as far as making wallpapers go, but you lose a lot of image quality in the process. So what's the Android forums advice on a program to use?

I have a big project about Android. So you know noobs can't use ADB and Fastboot well. I'll make a custom file extension. That is an script. That will be a custom script. So how can I make my own scripting language ? And how can I export a file format from scripting language ? For example; Perl' s file format is .pl and Shell' s is .sh and so on...
Imagine I made an scripting language. But how can I make a program for running that ?
Go on, my idea is; user will install executer program. And he/she can run special scripts with that. So rooting, bootloader unlocking will be pretty easy with that. What do you think ?
My scripting language's scripts will be like this:
[ADB] reboot; ( Calls adb reboot command )
[FASTBOOT] oem unlock;
And here is a rooting script in my mind:
[FASTBOOT] oem unlock;
[FLASH R] [FILENAME:twrp.img];
[MESSAGE] Put your device to sideload mode.;
[SIDELOAD] [FILENAME:root.zip]
[ADB] reboot;
So can use ADB and Fastboot commands without using CMD. .When user openes .myscript file with notepad, he/she will see that codes.

Whenever I am using any app and press the home button, the home screen blacks out for a few secs and it takes around 10 sec to get all the icons back and before I can start using my phone again. I am using a non rooted mytouch 3g.
This problem does not happen if I exit an app by pressing the back button. It becomes very annoying at times.

I have an HTC Evo 4G and I was wondering if anybody can suggest an alternate program for the program that will enable me to make notes on individual days, i noticed that you can only setup appointments and what not in the stock calender. I'm trying to record information for each day, is there any good apps that will be able to do this? I've tried different types of apps like calwidget and s2 calender but those dont give me the option to add notes to specific days. I would also like to find a program that can do recurring appointments better then the stock calender, i don't believe im able to make a recurring twice a week appointment.

I am designing a home screen widget. I ran this widget on a HTC Hero device, which has a screen of 320 pixels * 480 pixels with mdpi. It ran perfect on HTC Hero. The widget takes 3 cells * 2 cells space, i.e. 240 pixels * 200 pixels.Then I ran this widget on a Nexus One device, which has a screen of 480 pixels * 800 pixels, mdpi. Since Nexus One also is mdpi, so I though 240dip is equivalent to 240 pixels on Nexus One and 200dip is equivalent to 200 pixels on Nexus One, so the widget will not take 3 cells * 2 cells space on Nexus One device. To my surprise, when running on Nexus One device, the widget take exact 3 cells * 2 cells, about 360 pixels * 300 pixels, on Nexus One device.I am confused. The layout xml above specifies 240dip in width and 200dip in height for the widget, but why did it take 360 pixels * 300 pixels on Nexus One Device? What am I missing?
