Android :: How To Tune Up Power Usage

Aug 9, 2010

I brought a HTC Wildfire. Its battery power usage is very high compared to what given in the specification. I use it in GSM and most of the time it is kept idle. The battery usage status shows the Android system and Standby uses about 30% each. How can i tune up the power usage? Is there any free app available to tune the power usage?.What are the unwanted process running in background and how to find them ?

Android :: Power Management That Indicates About 15% Of Wifi Usage

Feb 19, 2010

I just bought a G1 from a friend and am exploring how I am going to use this. I am not much of a cell user, I want this more for the wifi access and am playing with Google Voice. I have a pay as you go call plan, no data plan, and am in a wifi zone about 90% of the time I would want to use it. All is functioning well.

I am finding that the battery barely makes it through the day even with light usage. The power manager indicates that about 15% of my usage is wifi, even when I didn't actually connect. I am thinking that the device is working hard scanning for an open connection. Like I said, 90% of the time I am in a known wifi zone with a "remembered" account. So it doesn't really need to be looking all the time. What would be really cool is if there's an app to toggle wifi based on location. I think by GPS since it would be more accurate. Wifi could be off until I get to a given location, then it would automatically fire up and connect.

General :: High Power Usage In Deep Sleep?

Aug 17, 2012

my Infuse 4g uses 25% of the battery when it's in deep sleep during the 6 hours I sleep. Yes, it is in deep sleep. Yes I have BBS. There are only one or two wakelocks for only a couple minutes each for twitter sync and things like that. How can it possibly be using that much battery in deep sleep? It's on CM10, but the problem only appeared after having it installed for several days. Normally I get maybe 2-5% use over my sleep period.

I thought deep sleep = deep sleep and it has a constant near-zero power consumption.

Samsung Captivate :: What Brightness Settings / How Much Power Usage Impacted?

Sep 24, 2010

Just curious what brightness setting everyone is using? I'm talking normal, run-of-the-mill settings not what you crank it to when you're outside, and not what you turn it down to for playing games in the dark. I want your normal setting. Anyone have an idea of how much power usage is impacted? (Like, does 100% Brightness use 50% more power than 10%, or does it use 400% more power?)

General :: Sprint GN2 Running 4.1.2 - Apps To Monitor Power Usage

Nov 21, 2013

I'm wondering about apps that are a little more than battery power monitors. I'd like something that will show me the apps that are running and taking up the most memory and causing the biggest power drains on my phone.

Something that would log this so I could look it over during the week and get an overall view and make decisions on what to keep and what to erase.

I'm thinking something that would show me what apps I used, how long they were running, how much memory they took up, how much battery power was used, etc.

Is there such an app out there? I'm wanting to look at the differences between the free apps and paid apps to see if it makes a difference also.

I'm running a Sprint GN2 currently 4.1.2. I haven't gotten the update yet.

General :: Widget Not In Tune

Dec 31, 2013

2 wks with Samsung; I installed clock/weather widget and noticed today temp stayed at 41F and didn't change the whole day even though it was in the mid 70's. I returned from a meeting at 3pm and noticed the little circle turning it suddenly changed at 74F. I don't really mind it but wonder how it works; does it work off the phone or on it's own. Why didn't it change temps after 8 hours of being on? Just curious how widgets work and if they dance to their own tune?

HTC Hero :: How To Save Tune As Ringtone?

Oct 4, 2009

I had the phone for a few days and I have downloaded some tunes into the music application on the phone and I see you can save the tune as a ringtone and also trim it which is all good, however, after I have saved the tune as a ringtone, when the phone is switched off and back on again, the chosen ringtone has gone and the "save tune" I had within ringtones has also gone.

I have tried contacting HTC and they are talking about something about route of the SD card and making folders which I have not got a clue about what they are talking about and they don't seem to give clear instructions in how to transfer a song from your PC to the phone and then make it into a ringtone.

Samsung Moment :: Spare Parts Other Usage / Network Usage Too High

Dec 1, 2009

I don't know if it's my phone or what but when I look up the Other Usage on my phone, it shows it "Running" more than 2/3 of the time. And on Network Usage, "Android System" and "Media" use a great deal of the phone as well.I think this might have to do with my "android.process.acore" crashing every once in a while when it's asleep. Based on everyone's feedback I might have to return the Moment for a third time.

HTC Desire HD :: Favourite Applications - Winamp - Peep - Tune In Radio - Google Maps

Nov 18, 2010

I know there is a dedicated section for apps, but they work different on each phone, so what are my fellow DHD users using.

My current Top 10

1 Winamp
An excellent replacement, tried a few after being spoilt rotten by the iPhone's music player. In Winamp, I've finally found a music player to compare to this.

2 Peep
The standard HTC Twitter client looks good and is easy to use.

3 Tune In Radio
Not really used this much but used it loads on the iPhone. A huge directory of stations to listen to.

4 MP3 Music Downloader
Get music tracks for FREE (legally debatable) But what I like is the ability to preview on the go, nice if you think "I wish I could listen to that track right now"

5 Google Maps
Superb free navigation, used it to find a pub I wanted to go to (on foot) Drains the battery if you have it on for too long though

FOUR GREAT GAMES
6 Paper Toss
7 Angry Birds
8 Teeter
9 Bubble

10 Backgrounds - shed loads of free backgrounds to choose for your phone, nice and easy to use, all in catagories for easy navigation

Samsung Behold 2 :: Portable Power - Car/ac Charger Or A Stand Alone Power Pack

Jan 5, 2010

Has anyone had any luck with aftermarket power supply's. I'd like a car/ac charger or a stand alone power pack. I usually use my DEXIM. but it does not work with the Behold 2. I've tried a car charger/battery unit by Wireless Gear that said it was compatible with all Samsung phones, it came with 5 power tips and a USB outlet that still would not work, even using the OEM USB cable. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I will go with OEM Samsung if necessary, but there selection is limited.

Android :: How To Tame CPU Usage?

Feb 18, 2009

I wrote an app that acts as a Google Reader client. It downloads an XML from Google, parses it and afterward analyzes web pages with regular expressions to find image and stylesheet tags to make the pages available offline. So far so good. The problem is the above mentioned tasks are pretty CPU intensive and I also use gesture to mark items as read etc. The gesture detection gets really bad when done during the synchronization phase (see above). Those tasks from the synchronization phase are not time critical. I would like to tell the OS that the UI thread is far more important than my background thread. I just don't know how to do that efficiently. In an ideal world the OS would take care of that for me, so I started out with "Thread.currentThread().setPriority(Thread.MIN_PRIORITY);". That didn't have any obvious effect. Then I sprinkled "Thread.yield()" in all major areas, in particular in the loops. But that also didn't seem to have much of an effect. Before I know start to to all kind of silly stuff, I'd like to pick your brains on how this is done properly? I am absolutely willing to use Thread.sleep(20) in some of the places I use Thread.yield. A little bit of a pause might be a good thing for the battery heat and power consumption, but I can't let the pause get really long, e.g. 250ms, because I wouldn't get any work done and would keep the phone awake unnecessarily (I am holding a partial wake lock). On the other hand I am not sure if a small pause now and then, like a 20ms pause, then 50ms work, won't take too much a toll on the CPU for switching tasks and in the end burn the battery too fast. Also, what seems like a good pause for the G1 might be not so much of a good idea on different hardware, like a Netbook.
