How do you retrieve the current version code of an app's manifest? I don't need to access another application, I'm talking about My app accessing its own version code.

1. I have a c lib which will send & receive multicast package, if I lauch it in native ap, everything is OK, but if lauched through jni ,so it run in dalvik env, it can not receive multicast, i think is may be disabled by dalvik, is there any permission can enable this feature?
2. In this lib i will make some callback of function in dalvik class. according to tranditional method which can run under JDK1.5 & 1.6 as follow: (I make it under source code env not NDK)
In some initialization method save jvm pointer
CODE:...........

I have been looking for this for a while but I can't find any way of doing it. A contrived example would be a service that simply displays the name of the current running activity as an Ongoing Notification. For instance, when the user is reading a particular email, the name of the activity (hopefully the email title!) would appear in the notifications window and when the user switches to read a text message, the notification would change to show the name of the new activity. Is there a way to do this in Android?

This question has been asked(and answered) many times about dynamically generating and loading java bytecodes at runtime into a running Dalvik VM, but is there any way to load dex files/bytecodes into an app at runtime?

I lost track of what ROM version my Nandroids are containing. I use to add the ROM version to the original file name but I couldn't do it lately.
Is there an easy way to check which ROM version a Nandroid contains?
I am posting this in the general Android forum because my question surely isn't device-specific.
I own a Motorola Defy+ and I'm running CM 7.2 at the moment but tried JellyBean lately.

Found myself needing to compare old and new app versions on my EVO but couldn't find a quick way. I was hoping there might be an alternative to the methods I used. I have a TON of apps installed and aTrackDog is slow to generate the information. Plus you then have to view the exported file separately from the app used to create the file. App List puts together a list quickly but rarely exports the version info. And I know that one can get app version info from Manage Applications on the phone but that too is slow to generate the information. Is there a FAST and easy way to see the version of the app? Would be nice to able to see something right from the App Drawer but I don't see any option other than the Manage Applications section of the phone and having to wait.

How can you tell what version you are running? When the new version comes and if it downloads in the middle of the night I want to know what version it is. I was told at the Verizon store that the new version will have voice for its Google maps telling you where to turn etc.

Does anybody have a link to get an older version of Dialer One? Is there a way that I can revert back to my previous version? I updated it to Version 1.2.6, and I must say the new changes are terrible. Facebook pictures no longer sync. 2.) Calling a number after dialing is more difficult as instead of having a fairly large area to click to call, you have to exactly touch the tiny phone logo, 3.) Before I could click the bar to change from contacts, recent calls, and favorites. Now I have to swipe to go between the three. The one positive with the new upgrade is the developer fixed a bug where the dialer would always crash if you attempted to add a missed call number to your contacts. Not that works fine. But losing the other three things are enough for me to want to go back.

I used to be a C/C++ programmer before getting in to android. I am not sure how people maintain 2 versions of a program without using #ifdef preprocessor macros. Right now I am changing the package name in eclipse and changing the code manually, but this seems really inefficient. Can anybody suggest a good way of having 2 or more projects that share most of the code?

I'm planning on getting LockBot when I get my EVO and I was wondering, what's the difference between the free version and paid version. I basically want the Moto Droid lock screen on my EVO for the slide to toggle sound on/off feature due to the lack of an external switch on the EVO. Would I be best to get the paid version or will the free version do that?

Through out of my Java projects I've got used to TDD with the help of this basic tools
JUnit (http://www.junit.org/) as Unit testing Framework Mockito (http://mockito.org/) as tool for Stubs and Mock objects EclEmma (http://www.eclemma.org/) as Java Code Coverage for Eclips
As far as I understand none of them I can use fully when I do coding for Dalvik:
JUnit -- android.jar has its own junit.jar and my assumption is you're supposed to use it, not the latest version from junit.org Mockito -- read this one http://code.google.com/p/mockito/issues/detail?id=57 EclEmma -- doesn't support Android JUnit tests

I implemented a runtime bytecoder for Java apps based on Javassist. The idea is to introduce code to execute code remotely based on current context. Since the context is not the same at every moment, I need to perform the bytecoding at every execution (if needed). I tried to port my code to Android in order to test it on mobile devices (I already tested it on win mobile and iphone using phoneme and jamvm respectively). However, I could not find any bytecoding tool available for Dalvik. Is there any Dalvik bytecoder available or an ongoing project that I can join/check that is working on this issue? If not, is there any other alternative beside running a decompiler for dex files, and modifying it manually?
