Android :: TextView Inside LinearLayout Stretches The LinearLayout
Aug 21, 2010If I have 2 LinearLayouts split %50/%50 everything is fine. Weights are 1 and 1. As soon as I add a TextView inside the top LinearLayout, it stretches that layout. I use "wrap_content" as the documentation says I should when it comes to weights. As you can see the red and green should be split evenly and text on grey background should be inside red box.

Now if I switch to "fill parent" as follows it actually works but it creates another problem. Here is the code (so far so good):
So looking at above we were forced to use "fill_parent" and we would think like we fixed the problem but here is the problem if we are using "fill_parent" (I took out the textview just to show the problem, textview doesnt make the problem go away anyways):
As you can see I assign the weights 3 (top red) and 2 (bottom green) but what actually happens is they get flipped: The red becomes 2 and bottom becomes 3. Just measure the pixels too see.

May 25, 2010I have a RelativeLayout that has two LinearLayouts in it. One is a bunch of TextViews and EditTexts that make up a form and the other is a ButtonBar that submits the form.
anyways, everything looks great in portrait, but when i switch to landscape mode the bottom TextView/EditText element is being hidden by the buttonbar.
screenshot to show the problem. as you can see some of the "email" textview and all of the email edit text are being hidden by button bar.

Android :: Using Generics In Java Code
Sep 28, 2010I need to de-serialise a file into an object of a given type. Basically the method will do this:
FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(filename);
ObjectInputStream in = new ObjectInputStream(fis);
MyClass newObject = (MyClass)in.readObject();
in.close();
return newObject;
I would like this method to be generic, therefore I can tell it what type I want to in.readObject() to cast its output into, and return it. Hope this makes sense...then again, I probably didn't understand generics properly and this is not actually possible, or advisable.

Did anyone manage to configure the formatter to follow the "Android Code Style Rules" already?
If yes, please export the Formatter profile and publish to be used by community. I've tried to do this myself but I've found that there are too many formatter options available, and most of them are not mentioned in the Code Style Guide.
Android :: Generate Java Source Code In Eclipse?
Jun 2, 2010Does anyone know what approach one can take to automatically generate Java source code, from for example an xml or json file, in eclipse? One great example of what I am thinking of doing is what Google Android sdk does: they have an R class generated automatically from the resources. Every time a resource file is saved in Eclipse R class is automatically regenerated.

In the text (xml or json file) I have the following:

Then in my generated java class, say R I would have something like:

Sep 17, 2009I am using custom listadapter for ListActivity, but half adapter is getting built and then throws "java.lang.StackOverflowError". When I ran the same code on sdk1_1r1 it works perfect. When do i try to run on sdk1_5r3, gives this error. Generally java.lang.StackOverflowError when happens if the some function caught in infinite recursion, but if this is case then why does it working on sdk1.1r1 perfectly. I tested the appl on sdk1_5r3 both emulators default AVD(96 RAM) and custom AVD(523 RAM). For all try it gives the same error.
