Android :: Relative Layout In Java Code With Inflate And Custom View - Position Error
Jun 16, 2009I have a custom view that I had to write for a large scrollable image, as the images are larger than the size of the screen. Before, I had tried to do it by putting the image into a ScrollView but that of course didn't work. The view itself is within a RelativeLayout within the activity and at the bottom of the screen I have two buttons that are used for navigation and at the top a TextView with a caption for the activity (the main header is already being used here for instruction). In my below code, I've checked the Hierachy Viewer to confirm all the elements are loaded and in the Activity I can see the TextView, however it overlays the ZN5ScrollView area and below the image I just have a blank area of the size defined rather than my buttons. For the bottom navigation, the Hierachy Viewer is saying the absolute_y of the bottom navigation is 480. I'm wondering if anyone can help with my layout code here to get this working correctly? Bottom navigation is 50px high, ZN5ScrollView is 365px above the navigation, and the TextView takes up the rest of the area at the top

Jul 20, 2010I have android code that uses a background process to routinely (e.g. hourly) connect to a content source on the web to check for updated content. As new users download the app and run it for the first time, it seems (and this is just a "seems at the moment) that in this first-run situation, because the DNS for our servers are not cached already on the device, those first series of connections fail with dreaded UnknownHostException: Host is unresolved. And of course, the application tries again later and (again, "it seems like") it is all working -- perhaps because the OS has had time to actually resolve the address. So, my question(s) are: (1) Do other Android developers see this behavior with their deployed applications as well? First time, a series of "host unresolved" issues that work themselves out later. (2) Does anyone have a better strategy for "warming up the DNS" so-to-speak so that the first real connections work? or perhaps do you just re-try with some back-off looping when you encounter this exception? I was contemplating having a separate thread that tries to fetch a small text file from our server and have it just loop until it gets it and maybe (not sure about this part) block the other outgoing network connections until it succeeds.

When the service is first called and no MediaPlayer-object exists, the stream is started correctly. But when the onStart()-method is called again (with the player streaming) I get the above error code. I can't find any information about this error code, so I turn to you for help. Replacing mp.pause() with mp.stop() makes it work. Could it be that the stream does not support pausing? It's an online radio stream (RTSP) in the SDP format.

May 19, 2010I am getting an error in my Problems tab for my Android Project in Eclipse. The error is "Android Packaging Problem" with an Unknown location. Unknown Error NullPointerException
I cannot determine what this problem is. My project was working a few hours ago. The only change I made was to add a public interface ITrackDao to my project and implement it. There are no errors associated with this. I am not even sure where to begin to look. I cannot launch the application.

Aug 1, 2010I have an Orange branded Hero and just tried to upgrade from build 2.73.61.5 (Firmware 1.5) to ROM Version:2.73.61.66 as I believe this is necessary in order to get the latest version of Android (2.1). Right at the start of the upgrade process I get an error message saying
Error [155] unknown error. The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone. Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again. I rang Orange and they couldn't help. I managed to speak to someone who understood the information I was telling him but he was not able to help other than do a Google search whilst I was on the phone to him. The suggestion was that the internal phone storage is insufficient to handle the 103MB image size of the upgrade file. I have now deleted all my apps (after backing them up) and have 123MB internal phone storage available space which should easily be enough but I'm still getting the error.

Sep 28, 2010I need to de-serialise a file into an object of a given type. Basically the method will do this:
FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(filename);
ObjectInputStream in = new ObjectInputStream(fis);
MyClass newObject = (MyClass)in.readObject();
in.close();
return newObject;
I would like this method to be generic, therefore I can tell it what type I want to in.readObject() to cast its output into, and return it. Hope this makes sense...then again, I probably didn't understand generics properly and this is not actually possible, or advisable.
