Android :: Entering Mobile Development - Pure IPhone SDK - Mono Touch Or Titanium

Apr 16, 2010

I am entering mobile development. I have been working primarily in .NET since 1.0 came out in beta. Before that, I was mostly a C++ and Delphi guy and still dabble in C++ from time to time. I do web apps quite a bit so I am reasonably proficient with Javascript, JQuery and CSS. I have also done a few Java applications. I started web programming with CGI and live mostly in the ASP.NET MVC world these days.

I am trying to decide on which platform/OS and tool to select. I am concerned with the size of the market available for my applications as well as the marketibility of the skills I will pick up.

The apps I have in mind would work on both phones and pads. Some aspects of what I have in mind will play better on the bigger screens that will be available on pads.

Here are the options I am considering:

Apple iPhone/iPad using pure Apple SDK (Objective-C)
Apple iPhone/iPad using Mono Touch (C#)
Android using pure Android SDK (Java)
Multiple platforms using something like Titanium to generate native apps from web technologies (HTML, CSS and Javascript)
Multiple platforms using HTML5 web applications that run in the browser (HTML, CSS and Javascript).

Android :: Triggering Swipe And Touch Events On Mobile Web App - IPhone

Jul 21, 2010

Wondering here if there is a way I could trigger an event, so that any library listening for these events (e.g. jQTouch, Sencha touch, iUI, ... ).

If I could extend or use jQuery for such task e.g. $(...).trigger('event') that would be great to know.

Usage example:

I need to debug a few web apps by simulating multi touch with my mouse. This seems a little complicated, so if I could trigger the multi-touch events using Javascript I could therefore test the app more efficiently.

Android :: IPhone Single Codebase Cross Development

Jun 15, 2010

Is there a way, apart from using HTML and JavaScript on a web control, to have an (almost) single codebase for an application that should run on iOS and Android? The big issue is of course that they use a different language (Java for Android, Objective-C for iOS) for application development. It would be nice to have some sort of meta-language that will be translated in Java and in Objective-C.What about Flash? Adobe wasn't supposed to release a tool to create flash-based apps in iOS?

Android :: How To Learn IPhone Development From Perspective Of Droid Developer?

Jul 31, 2010

I consider myself an Android developer, after having created four apps and learned a lot by creating them. Now I've begun my venture into the iPhone app development world, and I don't remember the Android learning curve being this extreme. It doesn't help, though, that I was very familiar with Java and Eclipse whereas I hardly even know how to use OS X. I learn fast and I know exactly what I want to make, I just need the means to get there. I'm really floundering with Xcode and the new project templates (of which there are several, and I hardly know what they mean). I know there are many books and things out there for starting from scratch but I feel like my Android knowledge should count for something. Is there a good resource for learning the basics of iPhone development, given that I am quite familiar with the Android platform? I'm looking for anything that converts Android knowledge to iPhone knowledge; a table of UI element names in each platform, or of concept equivalents, or a compare/contrast of the frameworks involved, or anything that will increase the rate of learning given that I know the Android platform already.

Android :: 3D Engines For Development On Any Mobile Platform

Sep 29, 2009

I am planning to develop a game for all of the mobile platform and have pretty much zeroed down on the concepts of the game. but the only issue I'm facing as of now is that I have no idea what would be the best libraries + 3d Engine to us to achieve the best results on the hardware on some of the upcoming mobiles. I'm talking about the iPhone 3GS, the new WinMo and Android devices with the famed Snapdragon, other processors from Samsung, ARM, Qualcomm and even Intel and AMD.as of now i plan to use the ogre libraries for now, but then what will offer portability?? This is much more of a design question rather than just coding. Any help is appreciated, others who wish to collaborate are very much welcome too. just drop me a mail.

Android :: Mobile Specific Site Development

May 20, 2010

I'm beginning the process of learning the ins and outs of developing sites for mobile web browsers. Are there any good resources/communities online that discuss mobile specific site development issues? My initial understanding is that to cover different phones you need to build one site that is enabled for browsers with the webkit engine (iphone, android, etc.) and another more basic site for other older browsers, is this assumption correct? Also what does developing for webkit mean exactly? How is it different than just using javascript/css/html? Is it the same except that you limit yourself to webkit specific functions and css? I looked on the webkit site, but it didn't explain it in those terms. Are there any other snafus I need to watch out for when developing for mobile browsers?

Android :: Web Apps For Cross Platform Mobile Software Development?

Feb 8, 2010

I am a C++ programmer interested in developing applications for Android as well as the iPhone platform. I have explored both these platforms by writing simple applications in Java (Android) and Objective-C (iphone). But the fact is that I am not comfortable with either of these languages, and it bothers me that I have to write 2 very different versions of the same application to support both platforms. (And then what do I do to run it on a Nokia phone?)Is using web technologies (JavaScript/HTML/CSS) a viable solution for writing apps which will run on multiple mobile platforms? I have heard of Appcelerator and PhoneGap, but I am not sure how mature these products are. I'd appreciate any feedback from folks who have used web apps as a solution for developing cross platform mobile apps.

Android :: JavaScript Code After App Is Compiled Using Titanium Mobile

Nov 18, 2010

I installed Titanium from appcelerator and built the "KitchenSink" example application. All works well, I'm just wondering where does the javascript code ends up in a built app.I grep-ed the Xcode project and also the result application as I found it in Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/KitchenSink.app, but I can't find any function names from .js files, not even string texts used within the application. Nearest information I found is an answer here : How Does Appcelerator Titanium Mobile Work? but I do not understand clearly how the process works. Is the javascript code being compiled into a binary code (what compiler is used then?), or is it just transformed in some special data-format and interpreted in a running application ?

Android :: One Frontend For IPhone / IPad / Multi-Touch Displays

Sep 6, 2010

I have built a multi-touch application which is based on a Java EE backend and combined with BlazeDS to a Adobe Flex frontend. The application runs on a DIY-Multi-Touch which I built. Now I want to use another solution. The Adobe Flex frontend (with a multitouch library) and the BlazeDS adapter should be replaced by a solution which covers iPhone/iPad, Android and commercial Multi-Touch displays. The problem is the iPad/iPhone, there is no Flash Player runtime (not the jail-braked ones), but the application should be runnable also on those devices. So Adobe Flex and a Java frontend (no JVM on the iPhone/iPad) is not possible anymore. At first, starting the developing of the application it was not necessary, to run it on Apples mobile devices, but this changed So, what can I do, using HTML5? So I can use it for Android and iPhone/iPad. But I also want to make it possible to use it on a commercial multi-touch-display and normal display with a mouse (I only have gestures for one finger, the 2-finger gestures are not necessary). Are there any frameworks that allow this? Because I do not want to create several frontends (App for iPhone/iPad on Objective-C and a Adobe Flex for all other devices), it would be great if I can build a frontend for all devices.

Android :: Updated MultiTouchController.java For Simplifying The Development Of Multi-touch Applications On Android

Jun 9, 2010

If anybody is creating multi-touch apps for Android, you may have noticed the MotionEvent class is getting more and more complicated over time. Additionally you may have discovered your code has different quirky behavior on different devices (e.g. on Synaptics devices, touch-down / touch-up can cause sudden jumps in pointer position before the down/up event is received).

I have written a class to simplify the process of writing multi-touch applications for Android, and just updated it to Android 2.2 (and to handle 3+ touch points on true 2D multi-touch sensors, as present on the HTC Incredible and HTC EVO 4G), and moved the project to Google Code hosting:

http://code.google.com/p/android-multitouch-controller/

There are numerous advantages to using this controller over trying to reinvent the wheel yourself, including simplicity and automatic device- space / object-space coordinate conversion for pinch-zoom. This also correctly centers the zoom of a pinch operation on the center of the pinch rather than the center of the screen, and supports simultaneous pinch-and-drag for more realistic pinching.

General :: How To Root Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 / Karbonn S1 Titanium

Apr 7, 2013

This is probably the easiest and quickest method to ROOT your Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0/ Karbonn S1 Titanium.

STEPS:

1. Download ZIP File for rooting in the attachments below

2. Connect your device to a pc and copy and paste the ZIP file you just downloaded to the external card on the device. (it really does not matter if your phone is in USB debugging mode or not.)

3. Disconnect the device from the PC safely and turn it off.

4. Hold the volume up key+ power button at the same time until a green screen appears. (this is the fastboot mode) Keep holding until screen turns red (recovery mode) and release to enter stock recovery.

5. Navigate using hardware buttons (power to confirm selections) and wipe cache partition and factory reset data.

6. select "apply update from external SD card" and navigate to where you pasted the ZIP file for rooting.

7. Confirm the ZIP file selection and wait for the process to finish.

8. Reboot the device.

Your phone should now be rooted. the super user app should now be visible in the app drawer of the device.
