View 6 RepliesI am developing a simple maps application that displays map in street mode. I want to display street name and a snapshot when a particular street is selected. Is it possible to get the street snapshot as is displayed by the native maps application using android APIs.
Also on native maps app when we select the street a 3D view of the street is shown. How can I add this 3D street view to my app.
I'm definitely getting a Desire as my htc Cruise is getting rather of an antique, however I relay enjoy my tomtom and not fancy paying again. My question is, is google maps a reliable step by step driving directions? and does it got voice maps?

Like if I know i'm going on a trip tomorrow and want to prepare for the trip, can i put in the addresses and get directions, then save? Also, can I save my HOME address? So whenever I'm anywhere, just say "home" and it route my destination?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I load Google Maps and it first locates me, it centers the map on my location. Once I am travelling, the map does not follow my location. My location dot will go right off the map and I have to manually drag the map to see the next section I am now driving on.
Is there a setting to make Google Maps follow my position while driving?
How do I use Google Maps app to calculate the driving time and distance from Chicago to Los Angeles? *ONLY* Chicago to Los Angeles.... not NYC-Chicago-LA
I can do this very easily using my Macbook Pro by firing up Google Maps in Chrome browser.(or any browser)
However, I just can't figure out how to do this using the Google Maps app on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Sure, I can use use a browser to do this, but I want to do it inside the Google Maps app for Android.
i am about to travel. I would need a working offline maps with GPS/navigation service. I have tried Google offline maps but it doesn't work with "direction" so I find it kinda useless. Any offline maps/GPS service with walking direction? Navigon is the closest thing to what I want but I can't download the south america maps from play store (they say it's not available for my country). I am thinking to buy NDrive considering they use the same database (navteq).
Does NDrive have walking GPS direction (and available offline) like Navigon? If NDrive doesnt do it for me
Is there a way to have google maps orientate to the directions I am going? For example right now if I am traveling south the blue arrow moves down the map. I would like the blue arrow to always point up and have the map re-orientate as I drive.
View 11 Replies View RelatedWhen using Google Maps (not navigation) does it display your route so that you are always going "up", or does it display your route so you are going left?
So if I fire up Google Maps and just want to leave it on while I drive home, but I'm not trying to do any kind of navigation...though I might open the traffic layer, should my route be coming from the bottom of the screen going upwards or should it be going from the right to the left?
I noticed driving home the other night it was tracking me going right to left. It seemed odd.
In my application I want to show route between two points and display points (something like POI's from my own source) the user will be riding through.
How can I get the directions (polyline) from GoogleMaps? Application will not provide any navigation so I suppose that there are no "leagal obstacles" for doing this (correct me please if I'm wrong).
I'm wondering if there's an app out there that can track traffic patterns/route times. I know that those Runners apps. can track speed/time to destination, but I'm interested in being able to track which highways/roads have the most/least amounts of traffic on which days and at which times, or which roads cause you to wait the longest at certain lights, so that I can know in advance (the app. would alert me which route to take on which day according to data collected over time). I've always been kind of fascinated by traffic patterns, but I'm also a fairly focused driver, so I don't generally look at times it has taken me on different days. You can feel like taking a back way one day, but does it really save you any time with all the lights you hit instead?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a bit new to Android but after searching on the Market, the web and this forum, I can't seem to find anything like this but I feel like it has to exist (or hopefully will soon). I'm looking for a camera application that can place the current compass direction on the image (and stamp the saved image with the direction). The tilt of the phone would be cool to have, too, but just the compass would be great. I did find an application that shows the compass direction on over top of a feed from the camera ("Reality + Compass" by Udell Enterprises).
I want something just like this, but with the ability to save the image. In case you're wondering, I'd like to use this for bettering the storm spotting community. A problem when people send in images of clouds/storms/tornadoes/etc is that you never know (1) where the picture was taken and (2) in what direction. Ideally GPS location could be added, too, but for now I just want the compass. (Other image services can handle the location part fine, like Twitter for Android/Twitpic.)
(I'm on the HTC Aria, but I can sideload apps now thanks to the new version of HTC Sync.)
Who studied the way to load in maps in google maps? When we move the screen of google maps, the small maps will be loaded in quickly and pieces to pieces. I want to know the loading-in way or materials.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI first noticed a problem when trying to launch the Weather app on my 2.1 equipped Droid Eris. Had it for about a week now. The app crashes every time. Things I have tried:
- hard reset of the phone
- remove battery
- reset Sense to defaults
- cleared application data/cache from weather apps
I was going to try this last one again when I noticed something very very weird. When I got to Manage Applications, and click on "Weather" it actually takes me to the application info for Quickoffice! It now seems like all the weather apps (and some others) are messed up. If I click on "HTC Weather Wallpaper" it takes me to application info for Visual Voicemail. " HTC Weather sync provider" gives me app info for Clock Widget. If I click on Clock Widget, I get info for Mabilo Wallpapers (app from store). What the heck is goin on here....
Any suggestions on what to try? I have searched Google and the various forums extensively and cant find any instances of other people having this issue.
Am I doing something wrong? If I am using Google Maps/Navigator - happily following along as my car wends it's way down the street and I have to exit to say, answer a phone call, look at another app. when I go back into Navigator my destination info is gone. I have to re-enter my destination.
View 8 Replies View RelatedRunning KK and trying to export some contacts using the stock export function in contacts - problem is that the generated vcf is in 2.1 format. This is not good, the export lost some info, such as custom labels of phone numbers.
Then I tried to found an app on the market that does that - not ONE have i found. All of them either do the export in 2.1 format; or they backup on the cloud; or send the contacts by mail; or use proprietary format.I just want to backup my contacts with all the info on my sdcard and be able to restore them.
What's strange is that the stock import contacts knows how to read 3.0 vcards and that I was able to do this thing I'm looking so hard now on my ancient SGS1 running GB.
I've got a new HTC Desire and I'm loving finally having GPS functionality on my phone and use a few apps regularly which are very useful. Can you recommend any other ones that make good use out of GPS and mapping functions. The ones I use are..
Google Maps - Needs no introduction. Just amazing. Google My Tracks - Another amazing one. Records your runs, bike rides, car journeys, etc. Plots them on a map and gives you things like average speed, top speed, altitude. This one has made me actually want to go out for a jog or bike ride.
Is there a way to send an intent to the Maps application to load a KML file(URL) and display the contents, or use the internal KML parser. The internal Maps Application's intent/components are out of bounds for normal users. Intent { action=android.intent.action.SEARCH comp= {com.google.android.apps.maps/com.google.android.maps.MapsActivity} (has extras) } Is the only option is to write a KML parser and override the MapActivity to draw the POI's
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am displaying Maps in my application. I am adding some GeoPoint in it and displaying picture at particular point. Now my problem is my screen is not directly displaying that point. Instead of it is display US part first time and when i open maps after first time it displays the previous screen. So i have to go UP and Down to see my locations and the picture which i have drawn on that particular point. Can some one tell me what should i do so user can directly view that points and picture which i have drawn on that point instead of first searching it on maps by going up and down.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am currently developing an application which has a maps feature. My map is working, but I still need to create a Directions option. In previous versions of the Android SDK there used to be a class called DrivingDirections, which did exactly what I want. Now it's gone and I don't know how to add this feature to my current map. I read that Google have updated their terms thus making the use of Directions in apps kinda illegal or something like that. But there are Directions in my built-in Maps application. So my question is - Is there any way for me to pass parameters (longitude, latitude) from my application to the built-in application so that the built-in Maps can then draw the route from the start point to the end point?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to display GoogleMaps in my application, but instead of map I just get an empty screen with crosses and Google logo in the bottom left corner. I'm using Internet permission in manifest file, just as the library "com.google.android.maps". I have also supported my application with Android Maps API key and I placed it in layout as android:apiKey value for MapView, but it still can't display the map.
main.xml:
<com.google.android.maps.MapView android:id="@+id/myMapView"
android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:enabled="true" android:clickable="true"
android:apiKey="07vNiwHa094tV14bUdyK0VTtXx0eeAZlk6WdKXQ" />
manifest.xml:
<uses-library android:name="com.google.android.maps" /> ...
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" />
I have used two different API Key values, regarding whether I signed the application with debug or my own created keystore, but it didn't work with none of them.
I'm looking for navigation application with preloaded maps, to be able to use my HTV EVO 4G as GPS without data service.
