Android :: Difference Between A Droid Phone And Phone With Android

Apr 15, 2010

I'm trying to figure out the difference between a Droid phone and a phone with Android.I have the Droid Eris, which i love.My sister just got the Motorola Devour, which if I'm not mistaken is not a Droid. My sister asked me to help her figure out how to work it and i was going to tell her she cant do all the cool things I can with a Droid... and that's when she told me it had Aldroid(not sure which version yet)So what's the difference?CAn it do the same things? Download apps from the MArket?I have great apps on my Eris like Swype keyboard (which i didn't get from the market), HAndcent for texting, among others. Can she get all those same things? If so, what makes a phone a Droid? Or is it just a name?

Android :: Out Of Memory Exceptions And Difference Between Emulator And Hardware - Dev Phone

Jun 23, 2009

I have read a couple of threads about Bitmap creation and release using "recycle()" but still have a problem with an OOM when running my app (that creates bitmaps) on hardware - the dev phone 1 in this case. Multiple passes through my application screens work fine in the emulator but performing the same actions on the device results in an OOM exception almost immediately. At this point I would really like a deterministic way to replicate the scenario on the emulator which I thought should be possible by limiting its memory (though I did read somewhere that the emulator and the dev phone 1 have the same default memory so this should be moot but whatever) i.e. -memory 64, but I am having zero success. Am I using the correct emulator args to limit the memory and/or what is the strategy for making the emulator exactly the same as the device at least with respect to memory constraints/pressure?

Android :: Difference On Emulator Versus Actual G1 Phone For Method GlDrawTexiOES

Apr 5, 2009

I have a problem drawing a background for my OpenGL app on the emulator. It all works well on an actual G1, but i'm worried that if the emulator has a problem, other android phones may have the same problem. On an actual G1 the background is drawn on the background. All other drawing is drawn in front of it. On the emulator, the background is always drawn on the foreground, obsuring any other drawing. Here are two screenshots, where i have my background only occupying half of the screen: From emulato. Code...

HTC EVO 4G :: Difference Between Phone And Google Contact

Jun 15, 2010

Have a dumb question: what exactly is the difference between the "Phone" contacts and the "Google" contacts? Is it just that one is saved and synced with Gmail and the other resides on the phone? Other than the fact that the Google contacts sync with Gmail and you have a nice "cloud" backup always in place, is there a BENEFIT to using one vs. the other?

- Will I even be able to have a legitimate complaint if I am on a leaked version?
- Will a new eris come with 2.1 or 1.5?
- if the new eris has 2.1 what are the chances of this happening again?
I cant stand having to reboot to use my phone as a phone.

Motorola Droid :: Difference Between Kernel And ROM?

Mar 4, 2010

1) What is the difference between kernel and a ROM? How do I know what kernel I am on? I know I am running the SholesMod ROM, but I am considering changing to another ROM. I seem to have FC's quite often and am trying to fix that. If I want to change a ROM will I need to change the kernel to make sure they are compatible?

2) I have SP Recovery installed. Is this part of the kernel? Is this installed in a separate place from the kernel/ROM? I'd like to feel assured that if I am installing a new kernel/ROM and something goes wrong, I don't have to worry about my SP Recovery being affected. But should I?...............

3) Nandroid backup... does this include everything on the device? Kernel, ROM, AND Recovery Mode?

I'm a newbie to hacking the Droid, but back in my PSP days, I know that the Recovery mode was stored on the same drive as the system files, and if you make a misstep when flashing a new firmware, you could lose recovery access. I'm just wondering where the recovery is located in the phones file system, and if I should really be concerned when flashing ROMs/kernels. Also, is there any way I could redirect it to load recovery from the memory stick, if the default recovery cannot load, just as a failsafe? Or if I lose recovery, could I somehow flash a new recovery via USB?
