Have a dumb question: what exactly is the difference between the "Phone" contacts and the "Google" contacts? Is it just that one is saved and synced with Gmail and the other resides on the phone? Other than the fact that the Google contacts sync with Gmail and you have a nice "cloud" backup always in place, is there a BENEFIT to using one vs. the other?

When adding new contacts to the droid x, it added it as both a goggle contact and phone contact. (i only have one goggle account setup). I went into contacts -> menu -> more -> settings. I am UNABLE to check/unchecked the "Phone Contacts" (it is always checked). The goggle one i am able to check/unchecked. WHY and HOW can i toggle the phone contact? Also, backup assistant only takes PHONE contacts and not GOOGLE contacts...while g mail contact sync only takes goggle contacts and NOT PHONE contacts. How can one change phone contact to goggle contact? (i have seen posts all over but no answers...and just replies saying "i have the same problem") I am trying NOT to have two (2) different types of contacts. PHONE and GOOGLE. I just want goggle contacts ( or phone contacts. so i can at least use verizon's backup assistant.

The main negative of this is that I can not sync these contacts. Does anyone know of way to change the contact type? My phone is rooted if that makes a difference.In another thread relating to this someone mentioned an app that fixes this but I could not find it. Does anyone know of the app?

I wanted to put the google navigator icon (the blue arrow) on her home screen but could not find it anywhere in her apps. I did find the google navigation (map icon) app and set that up for her. So, my questions are: What is the difference between the two? How come I couldn't find the navigator app on her phone (on mine, it's under "programs")?

I have my Google contacts in groups, and had hoped that the sync would bring down the group hierarchy. But it did not. However my phone is aware of the Goggle groups, because if I try to create a group in the phone with the same name as a Goggle group, my phone raises an error saying that the group exists. But I have no visibility to my Goggle groups on the phone. I only see a "Google" group. Is it possible to see my Google groups in the phone? If so, how?

If I go to people I am the only one there. If I search or dial they are there but if I just look at people it does not show them. I reset contact storage but that did not help. I added a contact on my phone to the google contacts and the count went to 466 and the one I added shows up on the phone.

Name/surname are saved but the phone number doesn't get saved; so when editing the contact, no phone number appears. Then, when gonig under Phone and typing the letters of the name just added, i can find it in the drop list of "guessed names" with the number right under the name. I want to be able to view my contact and see the phone number from the application People; and that's impossible now because of this problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedNothing seems to be working, so I figured I would give this a shot. I have a new Droid 2 from Verizon and it is a Motorola phone. ALL my Google contacts have been dumped on the phone. I have already verified that is ALL contacts, not just "My Contacts" and there doesn't seem to be any way to get it to just My Contacts.
I tried creating a group in the GMail contacts list for just the phone numbers I wanted, but there is zero way to get to that list. The only options I have when I open up Contacts in terms of filtering is All Contacts/Google contacts/Phone contacts. (The latter has no contacts in it because I prefer to have my phone numbers synced as a backup.)
My contact list is so large that when I go to text someone or pull up the contact list, it takes about five minutes for the list to propagate. All I want is my own user-defined list -- and have NO other contacts on the phone (not just filtered out, although I would take that, but not existing, period). The GMail app would be able to find any other contact anyways, so I don't need it in the actual phone book. I've looked everywhere on Google and it seems like no solutions out there seem to exist for me. All I want is to limit my contact list. I used to have Facebook and Twitter under Social Networking as well, but that just made my contacts list even worse so I got rid of those. Ideally I would like to get these back as well and just have them leave my contacts list alone.

Multiple passes through my application screens work fine in the emulator but performing the same actions on the device results in an OOM exception almost immediately. At this point I would really like a deterministic way to replicate the scenario on the emulator which I thought should be possible by limiting its memory (though I did read somewhere that the emulator and the dev phone 1 have the same default memory so this should be moot but whatever) i.e. -memory 64, but I am having zero success. Am I using the correct emulator args to limit the memory and/or what is the strategy for making the emulator exactly the same as the device at least with respect to memory constraints/pressure?

It all works well on an actual G1, but i'm worried that if the emulator has a problem, other android phones may have the same problem. On an actual G1 the background is drawn on the background.
