I am writing an app and I want to send the user a welcome email when they install the app, in order to do this I could prompt them to enter their email address, but I would prefer to just detect the email of their account on the phone and send it without forcing them to type.

I want to get the email address of the Google account tied to the phone (the one the user enters upon setup). I need it to uniquely identify the user of my app - however I do not want their password as it would, understandably, scare most users away from using the app. So I need a way of getting the email address without having to include permissions that suggest I am accessing account info etc...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've looked through the other SMTP threads on here also, but didn't see anything that seemed to fit. I have a Desire and I use it over a WiFi link in my home, fine for surfing and reading mail, but when I try to set up an outgoing mail account on my 'usual' mail account I run into a problem. Because I travel a lot I use a service called authsmtp to provide me with an smtp address wherever I am, works fine, annual fee is low (not a recommendation, works for me).
However, in order to work it needs an SMTP address of the form mail.authsmtp.com and a password. I can enter the mail.authsmtp.com ok but it always says it cannot check the account. Is this 'cos it cannot check the smtp or is it something else? All the other data seems to be ok.
I have a student email account for Virginia tech and I can't get it set up properly on my phone. Is there certain settings I need to use to get it to work? I don't really know a whole lot about POP3 and IMAP etc. One thing I did notice is that when using Microsoft outlook at school everything works fine. But when I go home I can still receive messages but cant send them. I am thinking its because my IP address isn't one on campus and that messes up something with the servers?
View 2 Replies View Relatedjust got my desire this morning and i don't really know what i'm doing with it, i've never had a smart phone before. i've set up my hotmail account as the email account on the phone but, call me paranoid, i'd rather not have it on there at all. if i delete the account on the phone will it have any detremental effect on the actual email account?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm a newbie to this forum, and hope someone can help. Have had the Captivate for almost a month now and am plagued by an annoying problem. I have set up email accounts connecting to a google-hosted email account via IMAP. I am finding that when replying to a received email, my reply goes out with redundant repetitions of the email address on the "to" line. Example: Email from soandso@gmail.com arrives. I click "reply" on the phone and the reply goes out to soandso@gmail.com; soandso@gmail.com; soandso@gmail.com; soandso@gmail.com etc etc *10 times*, instead of just once. It also copies me about 10 times! Is anybody else seeing this? I use this for work emails, so it looks very unprofessional like I am trying to spam my clients! I have another couple of days before my 30-day return period is up, so hopefully someone else know how to fix this. Is there some setting I am overlooking?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just received a new Nexus 7 32GB and am having some issues. I'm trying to setup my email using my base email address thru Comcast. I have no trouble revieving email through the email setup not Gmail but there is no provision for an address book or contacts list for sending emails. I Googled around and found K-9 Email and went to Google Apps to download it and upon tapping the download button a message came up stating "no devices found". The Nexus7 is running Jellybeen 4.2.1.

Is there a way to get the Google account or the Gmail address (no password) which have been signed to the device. the closest thing I saw is using AccountManager and Account but this is only for Android class 5 or higher and I'm developing for class 3. from my understanding this is for online services which I do not need - I'm only want the Gmail address.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use "note to self" and it records fine and I hit send, It then pops up email clients. if i choose, yahoo it doesn't autofill anything, if i choose the built in mail app it auto fills the subject and the message but it does not have my email address as a default, so I have to type it in every time. Since it is note to self, shouldn't it keep my email address in there. I haven't found a way to make it default. Any suggestions?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am currently using a x10i (x10?) on tmobile, i have the data plan ($10), and have my email connected via gmail. however, it seems like i have to do manual refresh in order to get email update. Is this normal or is there automatic feature that i must enable to have it alert me once an email is received?
Secondly, is it possible to set-up a third party email account, ex: Yahoo? I went through the notion of manually enter email account, but was unsucessful. It give me a msg that mailbox access is not supported for some tpes of yahoo mail accounts. Could this be an interference with gmail email, thus causing the problem? Even, using the manually setup option, it still fails to connect to my yahoo account.
I have a few email address' and I would like to know if there is anyway to hide 1 of those email address' from the Accounts & Sync in the Settings. Either that or anyway to reorganize the way the address' show up so I can keep 1 address out of site if the phone is checked?

i have two email addresses, one is my fullname@gmail.com which i use for private "serious" stuff like bank account logins, personal email to freinds/family, facebook, etc. and then i have my "internet" email which is my screenname@gmail.com which i use for forum signups, craigslist entries and for fun pretty much.
question is, when i get my android phone, do i have to assign an email address to the phone? when i tried to sign up for appbrain it asked me to log into my gmail account but i wasn't sure which one i would use.
is it pretty much provide a gmail address then do whatever you want? i justdon't want my private email address to be compromised in the future.
