Android :: Create A New File Together With Missing Parent Directories
Jun 22, 2010
When using
file.createNewFile();
I get the following exception
java.io.IOException: Parent directory of file does not exist: /.../pkg/databases/mydb
I am wondering is there a createNewFile that creates the missing parent directories?

I have to create a multiple directory like this path("images/wallpaper/flower"). It should be stored in the External Memory of the phone.

I need to generate a changelog of sorts between two Tags within a project controlled using git. Specifically the android source code. This list should include any files/directories/etc which have been edited, moved, renamed, deleted, created. and if you have a way to do this over the entire android source at once... even better.

CODE:.............
I'm currently using the above code to create a folder which is used to temporarily store images that the app uses later. deleteDir is just a generic recursive file deletion to empty a directory. Is there a better way to do this than to delete everything? Ideally I just want a temp folder that empties when the application closes.

Are there any temp, volatile directories in the Android file system that get wiped once the device is off? In Linux we have /tmp, but this doesn't seem to exist in Android.

I have an ImageView that is defined in the following way.. Now after downloading a new bitmap I change the drawable. The image now appears in the top left corner of the ImageView. Is there a way to have the image fill up the whole height that is possible and then adjust the width of the view to enable scaling the image without changing the aspect ratio?

I wish to have a single class which all of my Activity classes extend. I have ListActivities, Activities, MapActivities, TabActivities, etc in my App.
I have many of these different activities in my app, ~12 activities. I want each of them to have the methods which are in the parent class.
Right now, i have created 4 parent activity classes which are extended from a certain activity depending on their type(ListActivity, Activity, MapActivity, TabActivity)
I am creating a lot of redundant code - each of the 4 parent activities has almost identical code, in exception for what class activity it extends.
Here is an example that may clarify what my problem is:
I have an Activity: MenuScreen which extends BaseListActivity BaseListActivity extends ListActivity BaseListActivity contains methods and fields which i want all my activities to have access to I have another Activity: HomeScreen which extends BaseActivity BaseActivity extends Activity BaseActivity contains the same methods and fields which are in my other Base[<type>]Activity classes(such as BaseListActivity)
These methods/fields are copy-pasted to all my Base[<type>]Activity, and seems awfully redundant to me.
Can i create a master activity class which all types of Activity classes can use as its parent? if not, am i stuck with copy and pasting this code and feeling gross/dirty about it?

I successfully partitioned EXT3/FAT32, rooted, and flashed Defrost.
Now a strange thing is occurring. I installed an off market app, but I can only see its folder in Android's File Manager, not in Windows XP.
This is going to cause me serious problems because I need to transfer some files into that folder from my PC.
How can I access this App's folder in Win XP?

I'm having a problem getting my android dev environment setup in Windows 7. I follow the instructions here, as well as several environment sublinks. I am using Eclipse with the Android plugin. I have installed the Java JDK several times, in various locations (jdk-6u20-windows-i586.exe) - but I am obviously missing something.
Every time I run "android create avd --target 2 --name my_avd" I get an error:
C:Usersandrew>android create avd --target 2 --name my_avd
WARNING: Java not found in your path.
Checking it it's installed in C:Program FilesJava instead.
ERROR: No suitable Java found. In order to properly use the Android Developer
Tools, you need a suitable version of Java installed on your system. We
recommend that you install the JDK version of JavaSE, available here:
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/
You can find the complete Android SDK requirements here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/requirements.html
This error message is the reason for me installing the JDK several times over. First I tried installing to a location on my e: drive. I then moved it to the default loc (program files (x86)javajdk.6.something. I also tried forcing it to go into the program files path, but it still automatically installs into the (x86) path. I have added the install path to my path environment variable every single time, yet I still continue to get this error. My suspicion is that windows 7 and the android tools are not playing together well in terms of finding the JDK, but who knows, it may be something entirely different. If you have seen this error before.

I followed the effen manual to flash a new ROM for my HCT Desire HD on Monday, December 12th with absolute success. However, I have lost the start up sound file and when I boot my android, it boots in quiet mode. I searched for a solution and found many threads explaining how to disable it, but very little on how to enable it.
The problem is when I open my SDcard and look in the media/audio/notifications all I have is a facebook.mp3 file, I do not have any other files that would allow for the start up sound to open on boot.

But when I look up through my 'file' app, I can fund it on my SD card, right where it is supposed to be. I can even play it through the file app. But even showing all music, that third song does not show up. What could the deal be there?

I have a small piece of code that just won't write a file to the SD card on Android I made sure I created the folder CACHE_DIR before. It exists on the SD card, but canWrite() always returns false. This is the path: /mnt/sdcard/Android/data/org.my.app/files/thumbnailcache I can browse the directory /mnt/sdcard/Android/ data/org. my.app/files/thumbnailcache. Here comes the interesting part: When I try to write to /mnt/sdcard/Test/, it succeeds. How is that possible?

I want my android application to create a .js file, which can then be read by my web view. I have read that the "assets" file is ready only so I cannot save a file to there during runtime. I am saving it in the default "/files/" directory.
I want to be able to reference this file from my webview HTML file. The webview is showing local html files stored in the assets folder. What is the file directory I should use to reference this the .js file in the .html file?
