Android :: Button With Different Background Colors

i want to change the background-color of a button using a selector-xml-file. My approach is basically the one from the example at the bottom this page: http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/resources/color-list-resource.html.But if I try it with android:textColor as described in the above link it works fine. So it has to be the background issue. I don't want to create a 9patch-png if it's not necessary (basically i just need a "clickable" rectangle so i use a button with a colored background)

My app was built on the Android 1.5 platform. I'm in the process of bumping the APIs used to 2.1 . I am still leaving minSdkVersion=3 / targetSdkVersion = 7 in order to support older platforms.
I've made the required drawbles-hdpi / -mdpi - ldpi-v4 folders. Everything is looking great across various AVDs of HVGA/WVGA shapes and sizes.
Everything, except my tabs.
In AVDs running Android 1.5 and 1.6, my tab background colors are appropriate: http://www.shelvesforandroid.com/1p6below.png
However, for platforms running 2.1 and above, something seems to have gone awry:

Notice that the unselected tab color is correct, but the selected tab looks like it's just bleeding the same color as my images.
What can I do to fix this? Enforce the background color to be the same as 1.6-era ?
What is causing this tab color change?

I cant find anywhere how to change the Text COLOR in a webview. I can change the background color but not the Text.
Any Ideas? I want my webview to be white text on a black background instead of black text on a white background.

This is my first app so finding my way around bit by bit and have been experimenting a little and would like to change the background colour to a colour from a list.Currently it loads a white background specified in strings.xml <color name="all_white">#FFFFFF</color> This is used in main.xml:android: background=" @color/all _white"Ideally I would like to change the colour in OnCreate() to a colour of my choice. In my android app development, I have one button, the button text is not a single color text, it is two lines text, with each line uses different color for line text. How to implement this? "Two lines" can be simply implemented by adding " " in the text, I don know how to set different colors for each line text on the button. Anyone can help?

I want to use a Button in my android app but I want to customize how it looks. However, I want the highlight and selected colors of the button to be the same as the default colors (i.e. the dark and light orange gradients, or whatever the theme color supplies).Is there anyway to get the default highlight/selected drawables and to use that as the fill for my buttons on the selected and highlighted states?

I've been searching everywhere on this issue but have not been able to find any solid answers. On my Droid X, all system buttons and lists, when pressed, are a bright red color. I want to find out how I can change this color. I'm not that familiar with android, so I don't know if this is an issue that can be solved via themes, or if I need to go deeper into the OS.

I am creating custom shapes for certain buttons but I want them to maintain the systems current color scheme. I thought that by not applying a gradient or color it would automagically take care of this for me but I am mistaken. By doing that I end up with a black button and black text. Any pointers?

I have a ListView that I'm populating from a custom ListAdapter. Inside the Adapter (in the getView(int, View, ViewGroup) method) I'm setting the background color of the View using setBackgroundColor(int). The problem is that no matter what color I set the background to it always comes out a dark grey. It might also be worth noting that I'm using the Light theme.

I bought 2 Epics last night was so excited! I like the phone except for a couple of things that i have noticed one of them being the wobble oreo effect that I seem to have on both phones and I just noticed I have dead pixels on both phones! I am so disappointed and don't know what to do? The pixels are one to two tiny black specks that can be seen on light background screen colors.

When i ran my old application in 1.6 i noticed that the progress bar was not showing up on the screen.When i analyzed it further i found the issue.The progress bar is getting activated but its not visible since my background color is also white.When i changed the background color i was able to see the progress bar.Is there no other way to make the progress bar visible other than changing the background color..Shouldn't the progress bar be visible under all background colors??

I have a button defined in my XML file. The button works exactly like you would expect...that is until I add the line at the bottom (android:background="drawable/leftarrow1"). Then the button is no longer click able in the activity, but the new background shows up like I want. What gives?

How can I set the Background for a button to a transparent Color, like transparent Blue for eg, instead of a solid blue? When I use button.setBackgroundColor(Color.BLUE) it sets it to a solid blue.

Whenever a button is clicked the default behavior is that the button's background changes to yellow in color.
Is it possible to override this?
eg. in a game if the user clicks a "ok" button and if his answer/ choice is correct, then the ok button should change to "green" color just for fraction of a second (by default it is the yellow color on button click in android). And if the answer is wrong then it should be "red" in color.

I need to develop an application with downloads the data at the background and update about the progress in the front.
I guess this can be achieved using services and activity and passing data in between the. But, what I need to do is even if I hit back button and then start the activity again. It should check if the service is running or not. If service is not running it should start one else it should display the data from running service.
Something like music player where music is played by a service at a background and activity displays the information. Even on browsing through other activities of the application or hitting back, state of the music player is maintained.

I have to develop one android application.
Here is the scenario:There are many images in a linearlayout. When selected, the layout should be displayed with another(gradient_bg_hover.xml) background. This works well now.
Now, I would like that when I open a new activity and come back to this one, the last selected layout should still be the highlighted one (with the (gradient_bg_hover.xml) background).
Now i have used below code for highlighting the image when pressed:

The problem is the color of the Button doesn't change when pressed. I stepped with a debugger and it actually reaches the right points in the method, so that's not an issue. I think the problem is in pressedBtn.setBackgroundResource(newColor) but I can't understand why. Anyway, if you have a better solution to change a button color when pressed and, after a half second, change back to original color, let me know.

I need to set a background image for an android button (text button), but I want to keep the gray button. When i use the setBackgroundResource() it has the image in place of the gray button. How can I keep the gray button? I tried using set Compound Drawables WithIntrinsic Bounds, but the image only takes up part of the button, even when I have no text. Notes: I will not have text while I display the image, but the button needs to be a TextButton because there will be text without images at times, and images with text at others.
