I need to set a background image for an android button (text button), but I want to keep the gray button. When i use the setBackgroundResource() it has the image in place of the gray button. How can I keep the gray button? I tried using set Compound Drawables WithIntrinsic Bounds, but the image only takes up part of the button, even when I have no text. Notes: I will not have text while I display the image, but the button needs to be a TextButton because there will be text without images at times, and images with text at others.

I created button with some shadow using a style:

This applies a white shadow on the button's text in its normal state. I was just wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to remove this shadow when the button is a pressed state. In other words, is there a way to apply another style when the button is in another (pressed) state?

Does anyone know if it is possible to apply a frame animation (using an AnimationDrawable) onto a custom button or a toast view? I have posted these questions on Stackoverflow but have received no responses and very few views so I thought perhaps posting to this forum would be a better route. Let me know if this "double posting" is bad form.

I am trying to use one of these algorithms to convert a RGB image to grayscale :
The lightness method averages the most prominent and least prominent colors:
(max(R, G, B) + min(R, G, B)) / 2.
The average method simply averages the values: (R + G + B) / 3.
The formula for luminosity is 0.21 R + 0.71 G + 0.07 B.
But i get very weird results ! I know there are other ways to achieve this but is it possible to do this way ?
here is the code...

I have an image that I want to place on the background on my activity. For the G1 I would use a background of 320x480 but with the nexus 1 the resolution is almost double that. Should I just place the large image and make the smaller phones size down? I am trying to keep the size of my package down as much as possible.

I created a custom background image and wanted to use it as the background for a layout that has height of wrap_content. However, the total height of the contents of within that layout are much less than the height of the background image.
When I set it as the background in XML via android:background="@drawable/image", I noticed that it displays the entire height of the image, although the height of the actual contents are much shorter.

I'm trying to set my root LinearLayout element (which is set to fill_parent in both dimensions) to have a background image which is always located in the lower left corner of the screen no matter the orientation of the device. It would be excellent if there were some way to set the background image position such as that which you can do with css using "background-position: left bottom;" but I'm not seeing a way to achieve this in Android. Is there a way to do this?

The whole background still stretches the whole screen width.

I was curious about this myself, and i have seen numerous post about this on the forums complaining about having to unlock with the top button
I searched about nexus since it is similar and saw a few things about the app LOCKBOT, i recommend you atleast try the free version and see, it gives you unlock with the trackpad button and the ability to do custom lockscreen with different styles like Iphone, and different android locks. THis was one grip i didnt like about sense. Stock Android has the ability to swipe to unlock or swipe the other way to mute sounds, which is a nice feature, although i prefer my iphones switch the best
The bad...Ive read stuff about it crashing and being laggy, now i havnt experiended this on the INC, it runs super smooth. But i have been having a few times where the front button will not unlock the phone, maybe an update will fix this or something, but its worth a shot to look at.
