Android : Bug - Speech Synthesis Doesn't Reset Audible Tap Volume Upon Exit

Dec 3, 2009

I installed the new maps app on my G1 the other day. Now my audible tap sound is maxed out. It seems like this audible tap is on an audio channel that you can't adjust with the volume settings. I've tried changing all settings in the Toggle Settings volume pane and it doesn't fix this.

This happened right after I tried out the turn by turn directions. I suspect that the turn by turn voice is using the same channel as the audible tap and it's maxing that volume out when it turns on. Fine, but it should set it back to where it was when it exits. And it really shouldn't be using a channel that the end user can't alter volume on.

Android : bug - speech synthesis doesn't reset audible tap volume upon exit

Android :: Does TTS Support Speech Synthesis Markup Language?

Aug 19, 2010

Passing the following SSML (Speech Synthesis Markup Language) document to the com.svox.pico TextToSpeech engine resulted in a reading of the XML body but no control from the phoneme element or the emphasis element. This result (no apparent SSML control) is the same on a Nexus One running Android 2.2 as well as on the emulator running an AVD with SDK level 8.
String text = "<?xml version="1.0"?>" +
"<speak version="1.0" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/10/synthesis" " +
"xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" " +
"xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.w3.org/2001/10/synthesis " +
"http://www.w3.org/TR/speech-synthesis/synthesis.xsd" " +
"xml:lang="en-US">" +
"tomato " +
"<phoneme alphabet="ipa" ph="t&#x259;mei&#x325;&#x27E;ou&#x325;"> tomato </phoneme> " +
"That is a big car! " +
"That <emphasis> is </emphasis> a big car! " +
"That is a <emphasis> big </emphasis> car! " +
"That is a huge bank account! " +
"That <emphasis level="strong"> is </emphasis> a huge bank account! " +
"That is a <emphasis level="strong"> huge </emphasis> bank account!" +
"</speak>"; mTts.speak(text, TextToSpeech.QUEUE_ADD, null);
Does any Android TTS engine support any of the SSML elements?

Motorola Droid X :: Audible Selections Not Audible Anymore

Oct 1, 2010

Audible selections do not make any sounds anymore. It was working fine today; later on, however, I had suddenly noticed that whenever I touch various buttons, icons, widgets, etc. on the screen, there was no audible sound. I tried rebooting, but that did not help at all. Also tried unchecking & checking the Audible Selection box, problem still remained.

Android :: Parameterize Speech Recognition - Speech.action.recognition Speech - Does Not Do Anything

Aug 2, 2009

How to I properly parameterize the speech recognizer so that it can more easily recognize the words that the user will probably say?

As far as I can tell there is no way.

I believe this site is wrong: http://www.4feets.com/2009/04/speech-recognition-in-android-sdk-15/

CODE:............

Will give a hint to the recognizer that you might say those words. However, it appears to do absolutely nothing. It also conflicts with the google documentation which says:

"An ArrayList of the potential results when performing ACTION_RECOGNIZE_SPEECH. Only present when RESULT_OK is returned." This hints that the array is a return value NOT an input.

To test this out try adding: ArrayList< String > potentialResults = new ArrayList< String >(); potentialResults.add("cumin"); and try to get the speech recognizer to recognize it. You will find it very difficult.

How to properly control the speech recognizer?

Android :: Audio Programming And Tone Synthesis

Jun 25, 2010

I am mostly a business programmer and I've not done anything in audio programming since the ZX Spectrum so I'm not sure how to even ask this question correctly.I just need some pointers in the right direction with regards to writing (Android in this case, but it is really a general question) applications which deal with audio such as a Tone Matrix.

Are they based on generating lots of samples or are the tones generated on the fly?

General :: Prevent Safe Volume Reset When Plugging In Headphones?

Apr 21, 2014

Plugging in headphones automatically adjusts to "safe" level. I hate this. Is there a mod (Xposed?) that prevents the volume from resetting? I'm not talking about the toast/pop-up about unsafe volume levels being dangerous (I've disabled that with Wanam). The devices I'm using are the Samsung Galaxy Light and LG 8.3 G Pad, both running 4.2.2, but I'm pretty sure it's a universal thing and the actual devices don't matter.

General :: Stuck At Upgrading Software - Hard Reset Doesn't Work

Mar 6, 2013

I currently have a problem with my Sky Vega phone. I was updating it while it was connected to my PC but unfortunately the update did not finish properly.

Now it is stuck at "Upgrading Software". I have tried the "Volume Down + Power Button" trick and other variants but I can't seem to access recovery mode / download mode. It keeps booting at "Upgrading Software". I also tried removing and uninstalling the battery.

Additionally, now my PC doesn't even seem to detect it! So I am really currently at a loss of what I am supposed to do and how to fix my phone properly.

Is this normal? Or was my factory reset not working properly? Is there a way to get back to "out of the box" without having to manually reinstall a stock theme and unroot?

I'm writing an Android application that plays back voice mails using Media Player, which are just WAV files that have been sent to the device. When I play the file, it's played on the device's speaker, or else it plays through headphones if they're plugged in. What I want to do is play the file so that it sounds to the user as if it's at the same volume level as a normal phone call. Is there a way to route playback so that the file is played through the phone's ear piece instead of out of the speaker?

HTC Incredible :: Switching Audible Modes

Oct 14, 2010

I've had my brand new Droid Incredible for less than a day. It replaced a BlackBerry Curve that I had for several years and really liked. One nice feature the BB had was that it would shift from ringing mode to vibrate mode by simply slipping it into its case. Absolutely nothing had to be done to the device itself, other than configuring it to do this. Given that Android phones don't have this feature, what is the simplest and quickest way to move around among ring, vibrate, and silent modes of operation? Any way to do it with a single tap or two?

Android :: Google Maps Broadcast Event For Audible Navigation Instructions / Start And Stop?

Dec 14, 2009

I have an application which is playing audio.I have some customers that use this application while driving and who also use the Google Maps application to get directions to the places where they are driving. They have asked me to change my application to pause my audio while the Google Maps application is giving them audio navigation instructions. I am trying to find out if I can register a Broadcast Receiver to let me know when the Google Maps application is giving audio navigation instructions, or if there is a way to detect when any other application has started or stopped playing audio. It seems that this type of functionality would be beneficial for Google Maps and for any type of application which is playing media, so I am hoping that Google Maps is broadcasting events when it starts and stops giving audio navigation instructions, or that there is a generic way to discover when overlapping audio sources are trying to play.
