I need to somehow backup my applitcations database to a file so that it can later be retored using that file. The only way I would do it would be by reading every table to an xml ffile but it seems soo ineficient. The data does not have to be humand readable.

I am working on a project for a belgium Tv Guide. Now I download a database (.db) file from a server to the sdcard to work with. In this database are 2 tabels, tvchannels and tvprograms. Now I can do several updates to the tvchannels table and i want to make a backup of this table to a lokal database file. How can i do that? I want to do this because I have to download a new database file every daye from the server and the channels that are choses are saved in the tvchannels database. I want to backup this database table and when the new database file (tvgids.db) is downloaded I want to replace the tvchannels database (from downloaded database file) with the backup from tvchannels..

I'm nearing nearing 10,000 texts on my phone and was thinking about deleting some as even Handcent seems to be a little laggy at opening now. I don't want to lose everything though. Anyway to get some kind of a backup? Preferably something in a text format I could just open in Notepad.

I want to be able to backup some of my SMS threads. I wish there was a way to do this from inside the messaging app, but there isn't. I have found applications that let you backup all your SMSs to your SD Card or Email but I don't really need to save all of them. Is there a program that will maybe just let me forward specific SMS threads to my Gmail, SD Card or something?

I broke my HTC Desire so did what I thought was a backup to the SD card and sent it away to be fixed. Apparently they couldn't fix it and sent me another one. When I turned the new phone on (after having inserted the SD card) it asked me if I wanted to do system update, I presume this was to 2.2. I said yes. Now I have lost all my contact data (and diary but contact data more important!). If I connect my HTC desire to the PC I can see quite clearly the backup file I made before I sent the HTC desire off to be repaired. Questions is a) does it have my contacts in and b) how on EARTH do I put the contacts back into the HTC desire (sorry if I haven't phrased that very well).

I tried various methods now to backup content of internal storage of my Nexus 4: Plain drag-n-drop in windows explorer, commandline adb pull, Android Commander with copy or pull. All methods fail at the point where they get tho a bunch of files like this one:
Code:
/storage/sdcard0/Android/data/com.ptvag.android.adacmapformembers/cache/web/b/20/http___ajaxmaps1.adac.de_Default.aspx_ajaxmaps_MapServlet_left_938290_top_7193029_right_1251027_bottom_6880292_width_256_height_256_profileGroup_hd_version_ADAC_TourPlanerEU_2012_2_hiddenLayers_Town
Yes, this are 280 characters and Windows (7) seems to allow only 256.
Are there other methods to backup internal storage?

Is there someone that could answer a few question about estrongs file explorer.
1) When an app is restored/backed up using estrongs does it also restore/backup all of the user settings for the said app?
2) After a factory reset or firmware update can you restore all apps and settings that have been backed up?
3) Can you select more than one app at a time to backup/restore.
4) Do the backed up apps that where originaly installed from the market still show up in the market as installed after a restore?
5) Can estrongs backup/restore app and phone settings such as gmail & email accounts, cantacts, calendars, phone settings, etc?

The last couple of times that i have tried to restore an app through titanium backup, it will not work. It just says "application not installed". If i try to select it from astro file manager, it claims that the file is broken or corrupted. I have tried to install titanium backup again, without success in fixing the problem. The only way around this is to download from the play store and then restore its data, which is difficult. also, It seems to only be happening on big applications like angry birds and fruit ninja for example. Maybe remove compression?

I'm coming from a Blackberry and I love that I was able to backup my entire phone on my computer with the desktop software. Is there any comparable application or software for Android (even if its not free) where I don't have to root my phone?

When I had a Palm Tungsten C and the TX, whenever something went wrong, I had Resco Backup to the rescue-easy to use and backed up everything!
I recently switched from Windows Mobile 6.1 (Touch Pro2) to the EVO. With Winmo i had Sprite Backup. Since with Winmo- I loved to tweaked my phone, I never had to worry if I ever pushed it to max- which I did- to crash it. No worries, I just boot up a saved backup file on my SD card and everything came back to the way it was when I backed it up. It was bulletproof...figuratively speaking.
Now with Android, I am very disappointed. First, I went with Sprite Backup and let me tell you- it does not work. I did a complete backup when I got my phone. When an app changed some settings that screwed up my internet settings, I did a restore. To my surprised, it really didn't do much. I think the only backup it did was of my contacts. My internet settings were still jacked. Never had this issue with my Touch Pro 2.
I also tried, Titanium Backup and MyBackup Pro.
What I am looking for is a backup application that really works. That I can make a backup with ONE touch (like on my Palm and Winmo) and recover with one touch as well. An app that backups everything; settings, my apps, wallpapers, contacts...etc. Where I don't have to do one at a time.

Hi. My Android market does the following strange thing. One application (Titanium backup) has appearantly failed an update, because when I open market, this application is always on top under downloads saying "Installing". I've powered down the phone, but to no avail, no matter what, this application is "locked" in a state of Installing - which means I can't uninstall and re-install, and I can't update, because Market will not let me do anything else with this application than displaying "Installing" and nothing else happens.
Can I get out this application lock on Market, or do I have to wait for the next firmware update? I Use SE X10.

I have had my Desire for about a month, and I am finding it very hard to understand why there is no simple backup to PC application.
All I want is something that knows the SD card locations of my SMS and photos and will quietly back them up to corresponding locations on my PC hard drive.
At the moment I am using a file browser app to manually copy the files when the phone is physically connected and using HTC sync.
I don't really understand why all(?) the backup solutions I have seen cater for backup to the phone's SD card or backup to a server in the cloud, which is, respectively, far too little and far too much.
I already have a backup strategy for my PC. I just want the frequently changing locations in my SD card to be quietly copied to my PC hard drive, and prefereably OTA.

I just got 2.1 installed and love the difference (didn't used the leaked versions). After flashing and reinstalling the apps using MyBackup, I am left disappointed that the data that goes with the apps didn't make it. I am missing all my Mileage app entries, Storm8's long list of game data, etc. Is there a backup app that would have saved all the application data?

Android 4.2 introduced multi user feature, which is very useful for tablets.
My problem is how to back the users applications with Titanium. It works ok for the main user, but fails on restoring for the secondary user. Some strange things happen during restore:
1. Titanium didn't extract apps list for the secondary user, even though I directed Titanium to the right backup locations and saw the files there.
2. When I restored on the second user from the first user backup directory, the app was installed on the two users accounts, then I got wrong UID warning on every boot. I hade to wipe data to get rid of that...
To recap: right now I can only backup and restore apps for the main user account. how to do it for the secondary account as well.

I've been rooting my phone for about a month now, and I'm currently running Kangerade 5.0.9 (great job Jrummy) but I have a quick question about Titanium Backup. I have a feeling you will all be hesitant to answer, but Im going to ask anyway. Note I have no intentions of stealing here, Im just curious to see if this is a bug.
If I purchase a paid application from the market, back it up, and then refund the application, would titanium backup be able to restore it?

Can someone please tell me where I'm going wrong with this piece of code? Basically I want the app to download a .png file, display it to the user and also save it to the sd card for future reference. It seems to be all going fine until the while ((len = webstream.read(buffer)) > 0) part; as the debugger doesn't reach the breakpoint I've put in here, and I have a directory of empty .png files. I have the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission declared in my Manifest.......

I'm developing an image editor application for Android. I have a big problem: I haven't a mobile with Android. I found a person that helps me to test the application and I found many problems. The application works in the emulator perfectly but in the mobile the application constantly mistakenly ends. I want to print a log similar that the show in ddms in a file on the SDCard. I did it with a FileWriter but it isn't the same that I can see in ddms.
Is it possible to show the same output as ddms in a file?
If not possible I would like to get as much information as possible. The person who has the mobile don't have knowledge of programming and I have not got close.
