I'm doing Major Project on my final year and I'm very new to Android plus I;m not good at codings. I need help with my login page.
I've created something like a database connection java file which is this:
CODE:.......
I've already created a database for users using SQLite. The database name is Users and the table is called User. The records inside the table are Username, Password, LastName, FirstName. I've inserted one user's info into the database. The problem is I do not know whether my UserDB.java is correct.
And I've also created login.java. Hardcoded Login page:
CODE:.........
So I want to know how I should apply the database connection on the login.java. Should I insert database connection something like db.Open();? I studied ASP.Net a few months back and I kind of forget most of what I've learnt. So how should I open the database connection on login.java and how to check with database whether the user enters the right username and password?

I'd like to use AlertDialog as a Login or pin code or password dialog. Here is my code -
AlertDialog.Builder alert = new AlertDialog.Builder(this);
alert.setTitle("Login"); alert.setMessage("Enter Pin :");
// Set an EditText view to get user input final EditText input = new EditText(this);
alert.setView(input);
alert.setPositiveButton("Ok", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) {
String value = input.getText().toString();
Log.d( TAG, "Pin Value : " + value); return;
} } );
alert.setNegativeButton("Cancel", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub return;
} } );
alert.show();
How to code that all input text will appear like ' * ' - asterisk. I can't get my pin code value although it shows into asterisk. my code is below
private void accessPinCode_2() {
LayoutInflater factory = LayoutInflater.from(this);
final View textEntryView = factory.inflate(R.layout.dialog_login, null);
AlertDialog.Builder alert = new AlertDialog.Builder(this);
alert.setTitle("Login"); alert.setMessage("Enter Pin :");
alert.setView(textEntryView);
alert.setPositiveButton("Ok", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) {
//String value = input.getText().toString();
EditText mUserText;
mUserText = (EditText) textEntryView.findViewById(R.id.txt_password);
String strPinCode = mUserText.getText().toString();
Log.d( TAG, "Pin Value : " + strPinCode); return;
} } );
alert.setNegativeButton("Cancel", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub return;
} } ); alert.show(); } } dialog_login.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><EditText xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
id="@+id/txt_password"
android:password="true"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="250px"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:layout_below="@+id/password_text"
android:singleLine="true" />
I entered the value, but get null! How to solve? Debugging is stopped at this statement. When I pointed above mUserText null value being shown in popup.
String strPinCode = mUserText.getText().toString();
I use Android 1.6. Does it depend on Version?

Is any way to build and fire an event (e.g. on click event) in android applications programmatically.
I have an Activity (lets call it A) with multiple views (5 ImageView for example). And a normal Java class (lets call it B) which is used by my Activity. here is an instance of B in my Activity. If user click on a View (Image View) the view OnClickListener calls a method in B In B, if operation is successful, it will call back a method in activity again. in activity method, It will change image or state for clicked ImageView.
I the other hand: click on view (x) in Activity -------> B.doSomething() --------> A.bIsDone() -----> change image for view (x) with normal execution, its working and there is no problem. the problem is that I want to simulate this process to be automatic, my code looks like this:
CODE:.............
The issue is that, it won't render anything, until the end of the loop.
I tried to put the loop in another Thread, but its throwing exception: android.view.ViewRoot$CalledFromWrongThreadException: Only the original thread that created a view hierarchy can touch its views.
What can i do for this issue? i was think generate an click event on view (by code), to see it can help or not.

I am using the Android calendar. How can I remove a calendar event using code? Is it possible?
For clarification, I would like to mention that I don't want a sync process or want to remove events using gdata api. I only want to remove a local calendar event.

I need to de-serialise a file into an object of a given type. Basically the method will do this:
FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(filename);
ObjectInputStream in = new ObjectInputStream(fis);
MyClass newObject = (MyClass)in.readObject();
in.close();
return newObject;
I would like this method to be generic, therefore I can tell it what type I want to in.readObject() to cast its output into, and return it. Hope this makes sense...then again, I probably didn't understand generics properly and this is not actually possible, or advisable.

I managed to create the logic for the function but I have no idea how to match it with the database. I only know how to do it the hardcoding way.
Below is how I did it. I believe an sql statement should be inserted there am I right? And I know I missed out something. Before I match the username and password, I should check whether the user exist in the database first, and then check whether the password match with the username.
So in conclusion I need help on the 'if else' statement.

I've downloaded a few networking apps (games) that have you log in, then take you to a "home" type screen where you can change your settings, or start a new game, or view your buddies etc.My question is two-part:
1) how are these "multipanel" apps created? Is each panel its own activity? I've tried adding different panels through Views, but on the apps I described above, when I hit the back button on my phone, it takes me to the previous screen and in my apps, it just takes me out of the app when I hit back (again I'll I've done are add separate views). Can someone point me in the right direction of what I need to do to create a multipanel application that when I click a button, a new panel loads, then when I hit back on the phone, it takes me to the previous panel?
2) one of my panels will be a login page which I will post the log-in credentials via http post to my server for authentication. I would like to remember the log-in "token" that is passed back to the client so they don't have to log in every time they use my application. Again, referring to some of the apps that I have, they offer this feature but I can not locate anything on the phone where it would be saved. Is this done with xml usually?

In my layout xml, I have: <TabHost android:id="@+id/tabhost" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent">
<TabWidget android:id="@android:id/tabs" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/>
</TabHost>
My question is how can I get a reference to TabWidget object. I tried this: mTabWidget = (TabWidget) findViewById(com.android.internal.R.id.tabs); but this won't compile since 'com.android.internal.R is not visible. And then I try change the id to android:id="@+id/tabs" but I get a run time error saying: "Your TabHost must have a TabWidget whose id attribute is 'android.R.id.tabs'"

I found that it is possible to set dimensions of my interface elements in XML layouts using DIPs as in following fragment : "android:layout_width="10dip" But all Java interface takes integer as arguments and there is no way to specify dimensions in DIPs. What is the correct way to calculate this? I figured that I have to use property density of DisplayMetrics class but is this a correct way ? May I rely on that formula:
pixels * DisplayMetrics.density = dip

I just inherited a project at my workplace and I am having trouble having Eclipse act as an Adroid editor rather than a Java editor. Pretty much everything is under lined and I can't seem to find a way to change how it is interpreted. I have downloaded all of the Android SDK's and the Eclipse Plugin. I can create Android projects and write the code just fine, but everything is still underlining. I must be missing something simple. Any suggestions, something I missed or didn't download?
