Nov 15, 2010I am a newcomer to Android having recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S I9000M (my first smartphone ever), marketed in Canada under the name Vibrant. It is running Android 2.1 and I have not yet rooted, unlocked or otherwise modified the phone.
I have downloaded and installed three browsers in addition to the stock Internet browser: Dolphin, Opera Mini and Opera Mobile.
After installing Opera Mobile I started having the following annoying problem:
When I was in the stock browser, every time I clicked a link the "Complete action using" window would pop up prompting me to select which browser I want to use. The choices were: Dolphin, Internet and Opera Mini (curiously, no Opera Mobile). I would check the "Use by default for this action" box and proceed to click "Internet" (the stock browser), which should have made the stock browser my default one. However, next time I clicked a link it would happen all over again.
This happened only in the stock browser, never in Dolphin or one of the Operas.
It's like my Android kept forgetting my choice of default browser although in the settings for the stock browser it said it was default.
I also noticed that after the installation of Opera Mobile the delay between clicking a link in any browser and the browser's reaction became noticeably longer (up to a second).
Android : Extending WebView - Override Action Of Clicking On A Link
Feb 2, 2009I want to extend the WebView so that I can override the action of clicking on a link in the webview. At first glance I do not see how to do this. I tried adding an onclick handler to the WebView and that had absolutely no effect. I am not seeing very much info on extending the WebView control and was hoping someone might have some suggestions.

Nov 3, 2010I am on Android 2.1 and I have one multi column Custom listview Using BaseAdapter with an editable edittext at the end of the listview. If the data in the listview do not contain the data of user choice then user should be able to enter data. If the data is already there in the list user will be able to select the data using custom selector. If a selection is made in the list view and user wanted to enter data in the text field at the bottom after selection then the marker in the list view should be unselected. I tried to use onclick() method on edit text using click listener. First time when it is clicked, edit text is getting focus and onclick() method is not fired. And when it is clicked second time, onclick() method is fired and notifyDataSetChanged() method is called. I tried to call the notifyDataSetChanged() method from the Focus Listener, list view selection is gone in my first attempt and edit text is not receiving any data input from the keyboard (frozen).

I know the bitmap is downloaded ok (use the same routine for supplying it my ImageView instances elsewhere in my app) - I think it wrote to file ok, I can see it on disk and the file size is correct. The intent is launched but an exception is thrown: then the new activity just sits there, blank. How does this work?

Sep 23, 2010I am trying to apply an animation to a view in my Android app after my activity is created. To do this, I need to determine the current size of the view, and then set up an animation to scale from the current size to the new size. This part must be done at runtime, since the view scales to different sizes depending on input from the user. My layout is defined in XML. This seems like an easy task, and there are lots of SO questions regarding this though none which solved my problem, obviously. So perhaps I am missing something obvious. I get a handle to my view by: ImageView myView = (ImageView)getWindow().findViewById(R.id.MyViewID);
This works fine, but when calling getWidth(), getHeight(), getMeasuredWidth(), getLayoutParams().width, etc., they all return 0. I have also tried manually calling measure() on the view followed by a call to getMeasuredWidth(), but that has no effect. I have tried calling these methods and inspecting the object in the debugger in my activity's onCreate() and in onPostCreate(). How can I figure out the exact dimensions of this view at runtime?

Oct 13, 2010I have a toolbar view set for most of my activities.
The toolbar has several buttons which all trigger certain intents. Now, the problem is: how can I close current activity before starting another one ?
Problem 1) Activity cones For instance one of the buttons ('A') starts activity A. Activity A also has toolbar. If you press on the 'A' button, a new A activity will be started. I suppose I can look at Activity.getInstanceCount(), right ?
Problem 2) Unnecessary activities The activity X is not needed any more if the opts for A. I just want A then. How can I remove X from toolbar which only has access to context ?
I, of course could find toolbar view inside activity X and override the onClicks, but in general this would mean doing so for all my activities !? Am I on the right track ?
Android :: Graphically Represent Multiple List Selections / Dynamically Change List Item View
Apr 23, 2010I'm trying to create a multiple selection list where the selection is represented graphically rather than with checkboxes.My list has checkboxes, but I want them to serve a different purpose. I'm using a cursor to hold my data and created a custom view binder for the SimpleCursorAdapter. I did this for the checkboxes and general flexibility.So far I haven't even been able to show one line as being selected. I've enabled multiple selection on the list and denied the children of the list item focusability. I've tried manually changing background color with the position fed in through the list item click listener. But the wrong items get changed and they don't even change to the right color. I've enabled touch focusability with no improvement either.Ideally, I'd like the trackball highlight focus bar to appear in multiple places. But I don't think this is possible unless you use the drawable directly. But I don't know how to find or apply it. My next idea was to have a slim view bar that changes color. But I had the same problem with the wrong item being selected so I never finished trying to guess the index position to see if this would work. My most recent idea is to completely swap out the view for another one if it's selected. But I have no idea how to do this either. I'm thinking of using an array list to store the _id s of the items that need a different view to get around the wierd selection problem. I'm also thinking of passing in the ID field as my from and the selection view as the to for my adapter. Then I'd intercept it with my binder and change the view accordingly. But once again, I'm not sure how to do this successfuly.

Android :: Combining Map View And List View In Application
Aug 4, 2010I am working on an application where I need to display some locations on a map and in a list view where the user should be able to toggle between these views(activities?). I want the toggle button(s) to be in my custom titlebar like in the images (if they are attached). What is the best practice for this? Tab view seems like a solution but can I customize the tab buttons? Should the map and list be in different activities or the same? Now I have two different activities one extending MapActivity and one extending ListActivity but no way to toggle between them. Is it possible to load activities into a FrameLayout?
