General :: No Support For Encryption Of External SD Card
Mar 30, 2014If you enable device encryption on devices with external sd card, the external sd card always remains unencrypted. As you cannot really control for every app where to store its data, you have some of your app-data on internal sd (encrypted) and some of you app-data on external sd (encrypted). To me this seems to be a security hole, concerning device encryption. why cm team does not include encryption for external sd cards, like some oems do? They put so much effort in security features and on the other side they leave parts of the local storage encrypted?

I realize implementations of JPA tend to be more on the heavy/dense side, so if you know of any lightweight (non-JPA) ORMs I'll most certainly appreciate your input. I did see the answer about ActiveAndroid in the other post and am curious to know if anyone tried it out.

Sep 10, 2010New to android and currently working out what phone to get. I'm on WinMo at the moment and use bluetooth tethering (more correctly termed Bluetooth PAN) on a daily basis with a laptop on my commute to work. I am reading in various places that Andoid does not support BT PAN? Surely this can't be true, its been on WinMo devices for the past 5 years! I'm not interested in WiFi tethering - it consumes too much battery. Bluetooth is the best solution or this having been designed for mobile use, and its 3MBit bandwidth is plenty fast enough.

Apr 17, 2013There are a number of android file hosts such as goo.im, androidfilehost, and lets not forget XDA itself.
These sites are crucial for Android's success, as without them dev support would die. Yet these sites rely on user donations and frequently the site admins own pocket. I donate when I can because of the importance. But the amount they ask for is not much, it wouldn't even matter to Google, and they are the company who should be most concerned about Android.
Is it a conflict of interest thing?

There is the <supports-screens> tag and there is the anyDensity parameter but I don't see how I can say what I want. If I set anyDensity to false, what does that mean? Contacts were automatically saved on the network, so when you bought a new phone or whatever, they could just send the contacts to your phone. Well, guess what! Epic doesn't support mobile sync. SO PLEASE BACK UP YOUR CONTACTS THROUGH GMAIL IF YOU WERE PLANNING ON RELYING ON MOBILE SYNC! Unfortunately, I don't have a "local" Sprint store. It will take more time to drive to one than to manually enter my contacts.

Dec 20, 2009As we all know the droid's d-pad is located under the screen on the slider. I just wonder has anyone ever come to a situation where an app or a game needs a d-pad, but doesn't support the landscape mode, so you have no choice but to use the phone in portrait with the slider open.
and in that case would the "up" button(in landscape mode) become the "right" button, or does it still recognize it as an UP button? Is it comfortable to hold the phone that way?
I could imagine some games that are designed for the Hero/magic would require you to use the d-pad/trackball.

I knew that voice dialling isn't support - why on earth not though?
I've just paired it with my BT car stereo, and I have also discovered that it doesn't download the phonebook to the stereo like it did from my TyTN II!
So how am I supposed to dial in the car!? I'm handsfree but to dial I can't voicedial or scroll through the phonebook, so the only option is to hope the number is in my received/missed/dialled calls, or pull over and dial it from my phone manually.
Is there any chance that this will appear in a future update?

I am trying to add contacts on my desktop that I would like 1-touch access to but the only way to add a contact is using the shortcut to contact. Clicking on that opens up the contact details and then I have to click on the number I want to call and select call or message. Is there any way to add a particular number for a particular contact directly onto the home screen? I know that the MT3G used to have a shortcut to direct dial option. Apr 8, 2010I'm look for an app that will encrypt my SD card. I don't want to worry about losing my phone and the finder having access to the information on my SD card. I know it'll slow the phone down.
'Gallery Private' in the market looks like it may do this. Does anyone have experience with this app? Does it only encrypt pictures and folders?
'B-Folders+sync' looks like it only does contacts and notes. I may need a combination of them both.
Makes me sort of wish there was a BitLocker-esque app available.

I've added the bouncycastle jar file (bcprov-jdk16-144.jar) and written some code that works with my computers jvm however when I try and port it to my android application it throws: java.security.NoSuchAlgorithmException: KeyPairGenerator ECDH What am I doing wrong?

Feb 2, 2010I am developing an app that uploads files to an FTP server, and the app will have the ftp user name / password in the code. I'm investigating making the FTP user name and password as secure as possible (including an encrypted value for each in a strings.xml and decrypting in the app when it needs to connect to the FTP server).
My concern is this is not actually secure at all, it seems someone could unzip the .apk, decompile it, view the strings.xml and java code that decrypts it - and thereby obtain the ftp login info.
So my question is.. am I approaching this wrong way? Is there a standard method of ensuring passwords that are hard coded into an app can be secure? (note - in this case this is not a password a user of the app would enter, the FTP password is universal to all that install it so it is included in the app).
