Android : When A Button Is Enabled Send The GPS Data Just When The Location Changes
Nov 24, 2010
I made two Buttons in my Android application. the first one activates sending my GPS data to a Website.
the second one disables this option.
So my question is: What can I do to make it possible that when my activatebutton.isEnabled()==false (already pushed) is,that each time when my location changes a method will be executed.

I encountered with a problem when I use DDMS to send mock gps location data . I checked out the source code of Android and make the latest version. Then put my test apk file of gps to the emulator and start DDMS, but when I use Emulator Control of DDMS to manually Button to send mock location data it says no GPS emulation in this virtual device. But the same apk file works fine in the SDK 1.0

How can I check for GPS support in-App to add a feature for those with Location services enabled? My concern is, I know I'd have to specify the tag in the manifest to declare that the app uses location services, but I still want the app to function for those without. I just want to check and, if the service is available, use it; otherwise just ignore that one feature.

I'm trying to limit my mobile data usage with out jumping through hoops.
I'm looking for a widget, that with one click of a button, it can restrict background data, disable auto-sync and enable mobile data, and when pressed again, enable WiFi, disable background restriction and enable auto-sync.
This function, no matter how trivial, would save time and effort.
Is there anything like this out there? Would something like this require root?

I've set my Friendstream to update every hour, and this was working fine for weeks. Recently, although it's still refreshing the sync time icon at the bottom every hour, it's not actually updating the widget with the new information. It takes a manual sync for it to refresh. Auto-sync is on, background data is enabled.

Is there an app that can send your location in a useful format to any dumbphone without internet? i mention mms in the title since the only useful format i can come up with is an image capture of google maps of the appropriate zoom level and your location pinpointed on it.

I can't see how I can do this with the apps provided with the phone. Maps doesn't have the option, and from what I can see, neither does Google My Tracks. Any really good GPS apps out there that can do this (and maybe more)? I don't mind shelling out for good tools.

Radio Shack had this phone on sale for $14 cash this weekend, I picked up a couple of them to setup to use for WiFi text/music/YouTube phones for my kids.
I have rooted them and now just want to get rid of the Virgin Mobile automatic profile update that attempts to happen when I power on the phone. If possible, I would like to permanently disable the cellular data/voice modem as well leaving WiFi enabled. What app I should disable/ remove through titanium backup to do this?
I have absolutely no intention of ever activating these phones for traditional cell service. They will strictly be used as WiFi android devices. Basically a cheapo alternative to an iPod.
I have set the phone for airplane mode and then enabled WiFi to prevent them from making calls, this is a reasonable solution but they could turn on the cell radio and start trying to activate, although they wouldn't get far as they don't have a way to provide payment anyway.
Problem is their mother isn't the brightest and when they are away at mom's, I would like to be able to text them and not be on the phone with her troubleshooting them constantly.

I am looking for an app that would automatically send a text message based on a GPS location. The reason for this app is because I am a vanpool driver and it would be great if I could notify my riders when I am getting close to their house so that they are waiting for me when I pull up. Much better than having to honk my horn and then wait!

I want to store location data in sqlite. A latitude coordinate is a double, with 15 point precision. As far as I can tell this corresponds with the 'REAL' datatype which is 8 bytes. The alternative I suppose would be to store it as a String, and simply convert it back into a double later. Does it make any odds which way I go? Are there differences in storage capacity / efficiency?

I am running a Web service that allows users to record their trips (kind of like Google's MyTracks) as part of a larger app. The thing is that it is easy to pass data, including coords and other items, to the server when a user starts a trip or ends it. Being a newbie, I am not sure how to set up a background service that sends the location updates once every (pre-determined) period (min 3 minutes, max 1 hr) until the user flags the end of the trip, or until a preset amount of time elapses.
Once the trip is started from the phone, the server responds with a polling period for the phone to use as the interval between updates. This part works, in that I can display the response on the phone, and my server registers the user's action. Similarly, the trip is closed server-side upon the close trip request.........

I am working on an application that requires an approximate position of the user, so basically i am fine with any relatively recent location data i can get. However I can't seem to get things right using mock location data and would therefore appreciate your help. The method i'm having tries to set mock location data for the gps provider and tries to later retrievie it BUT: locationManager.setTestProviderEnabled("gps", true); seems to fail because i do not get any active location provider from the location manager. When I tried using a mock location provider with addTestProvider and give it my mock location, the LocationManager returns me this mock provider with getProviders(true) but then getLastKnownLocation returns null instead of the provided mock location.
