Android :: What Mechanism To Ensure Request Comes From App?

Sep 17, 2010

If I have my app fetching content from my server, what mechanism should I use on my server to ensure that its my app making the request? Is there any way that I can sign the request to using my app's signature to show its come from my app and not from a stolen version or copycat?

Android :: Google Reader API Request Token - Get 400:Bad Request

Jul 8, 2010

this Android code worked fine before, but i'm having problems for some reason. here is the request i'm trying to make: https://www.google.com/reader/api/0/token. i'm getting 400:Bad Request as a response, and i'm not sure why. isn't this the correct URL for requesting a token? the auth token is being passed as a header in all requests now, and i can request feed list, and it works just fine, so there's nothing wrong with the auth code. what gives? in addition, i can request a token in a normal browser, like Chrome, and get a token as a response body. so the request itself is not the problem. i just can't figure out what is wrong with my requests in code...

Bad Request While Trying To Send Cookie With HttpGet Request

Aug 17, 2012

I am developing an Android app for a website. I'm trying to get some information from the website by sending a cookie using a HttpGet request. I don't know where I am going wrong with the request. I am using AsyncTask to send the request to the server. The request also uses a token which I receive when I login to the webpage. All this is clear in the code below. This is part of the process in the doInBackground() function of the Asynctask:

BufferedReader in = null;
JSONObject token = Login.getToken(); // Token received after login, used in the cookie
try {
r = token.get("session_token").toString();
} catch (JSONException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e.printStackTrace();
[code]...

Android :: Sensor Data Poll Mechanism

Jun 3, 2010

Per the current implementation in Sensor Manager, the SensorThread is polling data per below code, final int sensor = sensors_data_poll(values, status, timestamp); it then checks the sensor type if it is registered and processes the data further. For an application which has registered for only one sensor, still to get that particular sensor data, SensorThread has to execute for atleast N-1 loop most of the time. Can anybody provide the insight as to, why SensorThread is waiting to check the sensor type to be returned by the HAL instead of sending sensor information which is currently registered by that application. Wouldn't that increase the performance?

Android :: XSLT Transformation Or Other Mechanism For Converting SVG Drawing?

Jun 3, 2010

I'm wondering how vector drawing in Android with the Shape class may resemble another vector drawing standard. Since Shape is a Drawable, and Drawables are usually defined as XML, it sounds a lot like the vector drawing commands in SVG. My question is this: Has anybody created an XSLT transformation, or other mechanism, for converting an SVG drawing description into Android Shapes?

Android :: Is Bind Mechanism Suitable For One Shot Services?

Nov 9, 2010

What I need is to perform some network operations in background inside a service. I want them to run in a service because, as pointed out in the "developing rest client application" talk from google io, I don't want to loose the result if the activity is brought in background. What sounds quite obvious is to use an Intent Service, and get the result as a broadcast. In this way I am sure the service will die and no consume any other resources when its done, but I need to convert the actions I want to perform to intents and back. Well, I was now wondering if it makes sense to bind to the service instead, at least for getting the result. And a more general question: is the bind mechanism suitable for one shot services, or it just make sense for persistent services? What happens if I call the startService method but the service is already active? Will it start another service, or will it call the onStartCommand of the same service? I am asking this because if I use "regular" non sticky service, it could happen that I need it to perform some action and I don't know if it is already active (and I don't want to have a queue of action waiting for onServiceConnected to be called.

1) I want to ensure I am using a current 'fixed' location and not a previously stored one, so I am trying to avoid using getLastKnownLocation, but cannot seem to figure out the alternate to this?
2) What is the best way to display a "please wait" message or something along those lines while the GPS service is attempting to get a fix (and ideally periodically allow the user to cancel out)?

Android : How To Ensure View Isn't In Focus When Activity Starts?

I open an Activity which has a number of elements... some TextViews, some Buttons, and an EditText. For some reason, when the activity starts, the EditText is focused by default, which causes the keypad to appear hiding the screen. I only want this EditText to be in focus if the user clicks into it. How can I ensure that this View isn't in focus when the activity starts? I've tried calling requestFocus() on one of the buttons, but it hasn't changed anything. Ideally, I don't want anything in focus at all.

Android :: Storing Double Values In SQLite / How To Ensure Precision?

Jun 21, 2010

i have a problem with double values i need to store in an android homed sqlite database. since these double values represent gps values (lat & lng), i really NEED an absolute precision down to the 9th number after the comma.when reading lng from this table into some (java) double variable, i get a value like "0.999956837" - this renders the values pretty useless to me.is there a way to enforce the precision i need other than storing the values as "text" fields (what would make expensive casts neccessary) or storing them as integers (meaning i need to multiply/divide at each write/read-op)?

Android :: Ensure Only One View.Renderer?instance Of GLSurfaceView / GLSurface

Aug 22, 2009

i am using android.opengl.GLSurfaceView in my game, which is working well expect under one condition: Starting the game a second time after leaving it by pushing the home button, causes the game to flicker, because the rendering thread from the previous instance is still running and firing OpenGL commands. Now the question is, how can i ensure that only one instance of GLSurfaceView/GLSurfaceView.Renderer gets created?

To solve/workaround the problem i've tried to set the following properties in the manifest file to to ensure the activity gets shut down if it gets inactive.

android:configChanges="keyboardHidden|orientation"
android:launchMode="singleTask"
android:multiprocess="false"
android:noHistory="true">

But without success, the activity/rendering thread still keeps running. Do you know of any certain way to exit the rendering thread/free GLSurfaceView?

HTC EVO 4G :: How To Ensure 720p Resolution When Transferring To Computer

Hello all. I like to cut and splice my video files together to make one movie. I usually do this with Windows movie maker. That program doesn't recognize the .3gp format that the video files are in when I take them off the phone. So, I convert them to .avi. Is there a program that will ensure that the 720p quality is maintained through the conversion to .avi, or is there another format I should be converting them into? I can't remember the program I use now, but it doesn't look like it is staying in 720p quality. After making the complete video on windows movie maker I get an option to export the video in 720p, but if the input video is not 720p, the final output cannot be 720p right?

Can someone please enlighten me on how I can ensure an alert is generated for these birthday reminders in the calendar?

I run a termninal program on my pc that connects to a remote terminal via land line that uses typical rs-232 communications, but easytether or pdanet do not allow dialing of specific numbers. I use a LG VX8360 with the drivers (LG CDMA USB mondem driver) and this gives me the option in my terminal program on my PC to select the LG phone and as modem and the terminal then dials which ever phone number i choose.

Any one able to make and app like this? I believ essentially the phone needs to be displayed in the phone modem options under control panel to ensure that it will be available to the terminal application. The terminal app is Procomm Plus.
