I've been researching phones for my first smart phone for about 6 months.I've almost decided on the Droid X.I think I will buy it at the one year price.On line, the one year contract price is $269.99.I stopped in at my local corp. store just a few minutes ago and their price for a one year contract on a Droid X was $319.99, $50.00 more.This was just the phone, no accessories added. They told me that the $269.99 was a special on line price and I told them it was a system-wide price.Who's right and is this normal and I just didn't know it or are they trying to rip off an old man?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to add a big feature to an application i am developping, but as this feature interest few people and is quite independant from the main part, I would like to put that in a seperate "plugin" application.Does anyone knows any design patterns, snippets, "reference" examples about such design?In particular that separate plugin application should be able to access some tables in the main application DB. Is it possible to do that without broadcast receiver? - the main application uses a TabActivity: is it possible that a the tabactivity instanciates an Intent Activity that is part of the plugin? - does the plugin can access main application preferences (not sure this would be necessary, but better to anticipate the question!) is it possible from the plugin to access main applications ressources?At least the 2 first points are mandatory for me.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using the Android documentation for a few days now, and it is quite good and easy to read. Apart from that I noticed that I missed something, and now I found out what it is: Examples and comments.
If you look at the PHP documentation (e.g. http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.substr.php for the PHP substr() function) you will see many syntax-highlighted examples and comments by users.
Of course there are examples in the Android documentation, especially in the Dev Guide category - they just are not at the right place if one searches the reference for a specific method or functionality. What do you think about this?

Thought it would be a pretty cool resource to price match items when shopping whether they are on the web or locally.I have tried and tried and tried to work the Barcode scanner on the phone with no luck. Tried scanning up close.. a few inches away.. I sit there and sit there and sit there while it supposedly scans but never comes up with anything.Tried Google shop too which btw doesn't show on my app list after its installed so i have to pull it up on market to access it. Weird... But that is mainly for cd's, dvd's, books, etc. Things with some type of art or cover.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI use to be able to search for categories of things in my area by opening google maps and then clickin 'menu' and then 'search' and immediately a list of categories would pop up and i could click on 'restuarants' for instance and then select by sub category such as 'chinese'. Now, the search button only opens a search box. I've seen the places icon but that's no more than a macro to search for broad words like "bars" or "restuarants" in google maps. It's not a full categorization.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I was using Nokia N95, my favorite calendar app was Papyrus (sbsh.net). There were category icons on the monthly view. With this, I could easily tell what I have for the whole month. The Hero's built-in calendar only shows gray triangles when there are events available. Is there any third party app I can use? The app must fulfill these two conditions:
1) Can have category icons on monthly view.
2) Can sync with Outlook.
I've recently bought this phone and imported all my contacts from my Gmail address book. Every contact has at least one assigned category, and some have multiple categories. I can filter my contacts on the X10 Mini Pro, which greatly assists in finding people, but I can't see any way to add a category tag to a new contact. I've looked at all the manuals I can find, and don't see this point addressed. Lots of information about adding photos and Timescape, but nothing useful.

THe previous versions used to let you browse an unlimited number of videos as long as you load more. I'm also no longer able to sort by most viewed for the week/day, most discussed, etc...
The app does look nice though but in order for me to access those old features, I go to the mobile website version, which isn't that great.
Can I get my Galaxy Nexus to show the colors of the appropriate appointment/mail on a widget? For now, only Outlook itself does this. In Android, the appointments are all white.

Is there any way I can get either the Verizon Wireless Store or Best Buy to match that price? I have it pre-ordered at Best Buy but I can cancel it if need be.I'd really like to have the phone tomorrow on launch day, but paying 199.99 instead of 149.99 is pretty silly.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst off let me begin by saying that I absolutely love the Epic 4G so far. The biggest difference for me coming from an EVO is the beauty of the screen. I work with several techies at my job so I asked to borrow an iPhone 4 and an EVO. I pulled the same web pages on each machine to compare image quality and DAMN! I never realized how bad the screen on the EVO was. Proves that bigger isn't always better. The major shootout was between the EPIC and the iphone. While most everyone liked the EPIC'S screen better, the consensus we all reached is that the iphone has a more realistic picture while the EPIC has the colors more saturated.Now back to my point. With this beautiful screen comes great sacrifice. The battery life on this thing (so far) is terrible! The fantastic screen eats battery like no other! As of typing this on my new phone, I have it unplugged for 33 mins with the battery at 58% with the display using 83% of the battery! I have the screen brightness at about 90% and this feels unacceptable. I've never been one to be conservative with screen brightness levels so I've never seen something drain this hard this fast. Hopefully its just a breaking in thing but current owners, please give me some feedback because I don't know if I can do a year with this issue.

I don't know if this is a normal function, but are the videos you take supposed to show up in the photos area also? I don't know if there are supposed to be separated into their own category.

In a couple of other applications I have extended this subclass to provider a common menu for each activity. Is it still possible to access the resources from this Subclass? By default it uses the resources from the current activity (Strings, xml layout etc.).
