Android : Way To Create Spinner Programmatically From Array
May 6, 2010
I'm all new to Android and I'm trying to create a spinner programmatically and feeding it with data from an array, but Eclipse gives me a warning that I can't handle.
Here's what I got:
This ArrayList holds the elements that should be in the spinner (gets filled from a file later on):
ArrayList<String> spinnerArray = new ArrayList<String>();
This is code ...
Now the second line (ArrayAdapter...) gives me a warning in Eclipse saying "ArrayAdapter is a raw type... References to generic type ArrayAdapter<T> should be parameterized", I have no idea how to fix this (or what that means in the first place :) ).
It's just a warning and the App seems to run alright, but I'd still like to understand what's wrong and fix it.

I have an xml layout file which contains a few widgets including a Spinner
I want to display a list of strings in the spinner, the list is generated at runtime as a result of a function so it can not be in arrays.xml.
I tried doing:
CODE:...........
But this crashes my application.

I have a pretty simple question, but I am still hammering my brain with finding an elegant solution.
I have a spinner filled with an array defined as xml resource:
<string-array name="distances">
item1

item2
</string-array>
Whenever I close the application I save the selected string of the spinner in a database. E.g. I save "item1".
On application restart I now want to reload the spinner with the previous selection. Therefore I read "item1" from the db and now have to somehow lookup the position of it and there I am stuck. An additionalproblem is that the array might have changed from the time where the data was saved to the db.

I have an application, which has a Spinner that I want populated with some numbers (4,8,12,16). I created an integer-array object in strings.xml with the items mentioned above, set the entries of the Spinner to the integer-array, and when I run the app I get:

As soon as I changed the array to a string-array, this works fine. Is this normal? I realize that I can (and will) just convert the string array values to an int, but it seems weird that I have to.

I've added a spinner to one of the pages within my app. When the page(activity) loads it calls a web service and the values that are returned need to be displayed within the spinner.
I've found lots of examples where you can add values from an array but the array values are always hard coded. I need to be able to add whatever is returned from the service into an array and then add that to my spinner.
Is this possible?

I would like to create a list objects called Product (Listproducts).In the application I first have to create the list List products from XML file and then display the products on the map. One product can be located at several locations.Does anyone know what is the most appropriate way to create the structure (a list or linked list) which is the easiest to iterate through and enables to link the lists? The logic should work the following way:
1. Read each point from the list
2. Check which product belongs to the point
3. Display the product informations on the map

I am trying to move my code from Java to C, and I have encountered a problem while trying to find a function in C that can take an array of ints and create a bitmap from it for OpenGL. In Java, I used
bitmap = Bitmap.createBitmap( {int array name} , w, h, Config.RGB_565);
Is there a similar function that I can use in C, or a workaround that I could use?
Also, if it matters, I am programming for Android.

Normally it is possible to have spinner items with text and checkboxes on the right, but I would like to have one part of the item's text black and the second part gray. I tried to create custom ArrayAdapter for the Spinner but I just can't figure out how to do it.

I need some help with the following scenario, as I am so used to make all of my layouts with XML, but now I have a situation where that won't work.
I am working on the second version of my app that delivers news, in the comments section I used to use a listview to display user comments, but it doesn't work that great for comments that could be anywhere from 5 to 500+ characters long. So I want to create a whole bunch of TextViews in a scrollview and stack them below each other.
My best guess was this, although it is definitely wrong because it only shows one comment. I assume I have to use some kind of LayoutParams and so I've looked into it but am still not sure how exactly to use them.

Does Android have a "best practices" guideline on creating & populating the db/tables programmatically vs. deploying a .db file in assets?
What are the pros/cons of both approaches?
I have a db with big long strings in several columns, and about 50 rows, so writing the insert statements alone would take quite some space. It seems a waste.

I have an xml layout that will display a grid made up of textviews within tablerows. The textview names are cell00, cell01, etc. At runtime, my program will determine which cell needs to be changed.
Is there a way get format a name so that it can be passed to the findViewById method at runtime? For example, if cell00 is needed, how can I generate the parm in this code?
TextView currcell = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.cell00)
Something like "cell"+00 doesn't compile because the findViewById method doesn't accept a String type. I don't want have every textview name in the grid hardcoded in the program - there must be a better way.
