Create Static Array Of Objects In Java?

Jan 1, 2014

I'm a little new too java programming. Im looking for a means to store groups of static data..so I understand these simple string arrays...

[HIGH]
private static String[] names = new String[] {
"aidanmack",
"johnsmith"
[code]....

But can I not combine that into an array of objects? somthing along the lines of what you would do with json? like...

[HIGH]
private static array[] multi = new array(){
{"name":"AIDANMACK","age":"30"},
{"name":"johnsmith","age":"31"}
}
[/HIGH]

I would like to create a list objects called Product (Listproducts).In the application I first have to create the list List products from XML file and then display the products on the map. Android :: Unmarshalling XML Files Into Java Objects

Aug 29, 2009

I'm making use of an API on the internet that is marshalling objects to XML files. Given that the XSD files are also available I'd like to be able to unmarshall them back in to Java objects once I've downloaded the files.After looking around it looks like JAXB is the default library for doing this in Java, but as I'm developing a mobile app the extra 8.6MB dependency just isn't acceptable. I also found XStream, but it still weighs in at 7.9MB.Poking around the Android SDK it looks like the only real XML parser available is SAX.

Android :: Sending / Receiving Java Objects To Server

Sep 23, 2009

I have a Tomcat Server in front of a Servlet that gets/stores information in a MySQL Database. My Android application needs to get/ put information on to this server. I control both ends of the communication, so I've basically been exploring the "best" way to send information back and forth. So far, I've tried Jackson for JSON and the native Java Serialization packages. My object is relatively complex and completely serializable.I have no desire to write a "custom" guy at all, as I doubt I'd actually be able to improve on most of the packages.So with that being said, are there any other strategies/packages I should try to get information to/from my server?

Android :: Calling A Non-static Java Method From C

Dec 22, 2009

In my Android app, I need to call a non static java method from C/C++. But i get a blunt crash when i do it using GetMethodID/CallVoidMethod()1 methods.

I have done like this:

1. Register the method using GetMethodID() as follows (mine is a cpp file): jmethodID xyz = (env)->GetMethodID( cls, "showxyz", "()V");

2. And I call this method as follows: env->CallVoidMethod(cls, xyz);

3. In java, my showxyz() is defined this way(this basically enables a button which was disabled) void showxyz() {findViewById(R.id.btnPass).setEnabled(true);}

And this crashes.

But I have been using this method of calling Java funcs from C using a set of GetStaticMethodID/CallStaticVoidMethod()(for nonstatic methods) and that works always.

But in this case, I have to call a non-static method and i get a crash.

Android :: JSON Array Iteration In Java

Aug 4, 2010

I am building an android app that needs to download and synchronise with an online database, I am sending my query from the app to a php page which returns the relevant rows from a database in JSON format.

Tell me the best way to iterate through a JSON array?

I receive an array of objects:

[{json object},{json object},{json object}]

What is the simplest piece of code I could use to access the JSONObjects in the array?

Now that I think of it the method I used to iterate the loop was:

CODE:.............

So I guess I had was somehow able to turn the returned Json into and iterable array. Any Ideas how I could achieve this?

I apologise for my vaguness but I had this working from an example I found on the web and have since been unable to find it.

Android : Way To Create Spinner Programmatically From Array

May 6, 2010

I'm all new to Android and I'm trying to create a spinner programmatically and feeding it with data from an array, but Eclipse gives me a warning that I can't handle.

Here's what I got:

This ArrayList holds the elements that should be in the spinner (gets filled from a file later on):

ArrayList<String> spinnerArray = new ArrayList<String>();

This is code ...

Now the second line (ArrayAdapter...) gives me a warning in Eclipse saying "ArrayAdapter is a raw type... References to generic type ArrayAdapter<T> should be parameterized", I have no idea how to fix this (or what that means in the first place :) ).

It's just a warning and the App seems to run alright, but I'd still like to understand what's wrong and fix it.

Android :: Pass Objects Around Activities Using A HashMap Of WeakReferences To Objects?

The FAQ mentions a method of passing objects around activities. (It is not clear to me): "A HashMap of WeakReferences to Objects. You can also use a HashMap of WeakReferences to Objects with Long keys. When an activity wants to pass an object to another activity, it simply puts the object in the map and sends the key (which is a unique Long based on a counter or time stamp) to the recipient activity via intent extras. The recipient activity retrieves the object using this key.".................

Android :: Static Fields In Activity Classes Guaranteed To Outlive Create / Destroy Cycle?

Oct 28, 2009

I frequently run into the problem that I have to preserve state between several invocations of an activity (i.e. going through several onCreate()/onDelete() cycles). Unfortunately, Android's support for doing that is really poor. As an easy way to preserve state, I thought that since the class is only loaded once by the class loader, that it would be safe to store temporary data that's shared between several instances of an activity in a static Bundle field. However, occasionally, when instance A creates the static bundle and stores data in it, then gets destroyed, and instance B tries to read from it, the static field is suddenly NULL. Doesn't that mean that the class had been removed and reloaded by the classloader while the activity was going through a create/destroy cycle? How else could a static field suddenly become NULL when it was referencing an object before?
