Does anyone have trouble with getting updates for Apps you have moved to the SD Card? I seem to have to move the Apps from SD to phone, update, and then move phone to SD. Is there a way to get updates for the Apps that are on the SDCard automatically?

I put a few apps on my micro sd card (via phone mounted to pc over usb) then I opened astro and installed them on the phone. Apps work fine; but I can't update them? All it will let me do is buy them...? WTC?

Anyone know what the problem is? These apps all show update available but when I go into the market to let the apps get updated it won't let me; all it will let me do is buy...?
I've noticed this since I've updated to Froyo (many weeks ago) but I don't know if it's related to Froyo or just some random coincidence. Whenever I update an app that's stored on my SD card I get the "Failed to install application" error. It's easy to fix just move the app to the phone, but it's kind of a pain in the backside. Is there an easier fix? Or should I just keep all apps on the phone and use the SD for photos and music or something?I have a non-rooted HTC Incredible.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had my HTC Desire for about 2 weeks. I have searched through the forums for info...but between threads getting off track or just not understanding anything, I thought it would be easier to ask basic questions about my particular issues.
1) What is root? I have the 2.2 update, I am happy enough with HTC and my carrier (Telus) and I don't need tonnes of room right now.
2) Speaking of room, I try to put my apps on my SD card with the 2.2 update but only Google Earth and Night Sky are able to do it. All of my icon packs etc. wont go to SD. I'm pretty sure I have lots of room left so I dont think this is a huge issue.
3) Battery issues. I didn't do the first full charge as I had to use the phone asap when I bought it. I don't have much going on with my phone, no active wallpapers, just weather toggle and clock, text and a few phone calls, check a couple websites, maybe a video here and there, and sometime use GPS for maps. I keep my screen on zero percent and I soft touch the power button to go black screen when i'm idle. I turn off gps and wifi when not using them. With that said, I cant keep the phone idle and off charge overnight without it going to zero. After a charge I lose 10-20% in the first hour. I have never lasted a day on a full charge.
4) After playing around with customizing my phone with icons and widgets I am done. All I need this phone to do is make phones calls, text and check my favorite websites. I use my tracks when I go running and listen to music when I run. Thats all I want it to do. Its a phone so I would love if it could keep a charge in case of an emergency. I was late for dinner the other night because my battery died and I couldn't even call to say I was late! so....
5) What do you recommend I do with my phone to keep it as basic as possible and powered up?
6) What are the key apps to make this the best user experience?
7) When in my pocket I lock screen but once I found that I had 23 unsuccessful attempts to open screen from jiggling around in my pocket lol. Is there anything to help me with that?
So i just loaded one of the new ROMs based on todays OTA.
I did the nandroid. I did the titanium. i flashed using rom manager and selected clear cache/data.
ROM loaded perfectly.. and when i went to titanium to restore, nothing was there!
I plugged the phone into the computer, and i can't even view the card.
I can browse the phone's memory, but not the cards.
I'm hoping there's some adb command or something that'll fix this...
No can someone tell me how to partition my sd card so that I can run apps right from the card rather then the phone memory?

I have alot (and I mean ALOT) of apps on my Xperia, so I get around 5 app updates a day, which is now starting to agitate me because most of them are the same apps everyday needing updates.
Today I heard about an update for the market that includes an auto update feature for installed apps. But I, like many others, do not see this option on the market.
Does anyone have any idea how to get it? or if I can't get it, when can I?
Does it actually work? I still have to manually update the apps I put on auto update.

I downloaded AppMonster and noted that 2 free and 1 paid app are marked 'protected'. I proceeded to 'Backup' and noted those 3 did not back up. How can I get the paid app to save to an SD card? Is is possible to load/install apps by simply putting the APK file on a SD Card?
I'm trying to figure out a way to preinstall apps (prior to handing them out i mean) in a large corporate environment without the need of going though Marketyplace.
I know I can point the device to an APK file on the web and do an install that way, but I'm looking for a way to preinstall the app in a more expedited way. Ideally, writing this onto SD and poping in the Card into each device is ideal in our setup. Is this possible? Any suggestions?
I'm looking for a good app manager that will allow me to send apps to the sd card and free up some phone memory. Also need to know how to work whatever app suggested.

So i have that checked off for like 80+% of my 80+ apps (that took a while to do let me tell you). Now i have had three apps have updates available since i checked off the box, yet they never actually automatically updated. I waited, hours, still never updated. Is there a setting i need to modify? Do i need to tell it what time of day to do it? Anyone else noticing this? I only really want it in apps that i don't care about reading the new features. But it is annoying that i have it enabled and it does nothing.

While this is normal for uninstall (and then afterwards install optionally to notice it), I do not understand why this is the case for reinstall (and thus for Market updates as well). I could have sworn this was not always the case.

So I am writing and reading data in "/sdcard/Android/data//files/somefolder/data". My preferences do stick.
@Commonsware: The problem is not so much with getExternalFilesDir() IMHO as I see my data is written where I expect it. It just does not stick. I am using a.o.:

I'm looking for some help. I have the HTC Hero and I really have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to rooting or anything like that at all. I'm willing to pay someone for their time for this: I need someone to walk me through the whole process of rooting my phone and then be able to move my downloaded apps onto my SD card.If someone is interested in helping, please let me know.
