Is it possible to use a hyperlink in android to do something other than open a web page? I want to use a hyperlink in a TextView to luanch a new activity, or something along those lines. I have a large document and I want to let the user jump to references within the doc (like a footnote or something). Can this be done?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an Android activity that, onCreate(), will query a database and display the query results in textviews on the UI.The problem that I am having is at some point, users can open another activity and update the database. When they go back to the original activity, I would like for the text views to update with the new database information (so, I will re query the database and display the info).Another thing that I am willing to do is to take the new input from the user (in the new activity) and directly update the textview in the existing activity (without having the existing activity re-query the database). But I'm not sure how to do something like that either.Can someone please inform me on the best way to go about doing this? The only solution that I have found so far has to do with broadcast receivers, but I'm not sure if that is best suited for what I have to do.

It appears to happen when I try to update a Textview in my Activity, the call to update the TextView is from within my Activity but I still get the above error. I have it like this:
onCreate()
-sets up the buttons and the text view.
onStateChange() - a listener for notifications about state changes, when this gets notification if changes the TextView to say some different text.............
There are an EditText and a TextView in my Activity. I want to set focus on the TextView when the Activity starts. I used the following code:
TextView myTextView = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.my_text_vew);
myTextView.setFocusable(true);
myTextView.setOnClickListener(this);
myTextView.requestFocus();
But the code doesn't work. The EditText always receives focus when the activity starts.

Google spreadsheets allow hyperlinks to be placed within cells, such as explained here: How to Make a Hyperlink Work in Google Spreadsheets | eHow.com
This works fine with my pc, where clicking cell offers prompt to click to go to hyperlinked page.
When same document is viewed via my Nexus 7 tablet, I can see the kyperlink text in the cell, but it does not respond to single tap, or touching and holding etc.to activate the link.
I believe this is a commonly used feature and anticipate it's a feature that google should if anything be better at than excel to encourage the migration to cloud computing.
Upon googling for info, I can't find other's having problem and I did find a website with known issues with google spreadsheets ( only ahandful listed) but no mention of the above problem.
So, is there a non-obvious way to activate the link or is it a problem or known bug?

Trying to copy and paste web address out of the stock browser to an email. Press the address bar, select copy all. Press home, bring up email. Press compose, then press the message body. All I get is copy text, no option to paste the link. What gives?

Sometimes the TextView on the bottom won't have any text, and the problem is that the entire layout is several pixels above where it should be because it still reserves that space for text when there isn't any making the entire list have annoying blank gaps. I remember seeing an example of where someone made the layout not reserve the space, but I can't remember how he did it.

I have a TextView that I created in the main.xml. In my app.java I am dynamically positioning that TextView based on where the user taps the screen. The problem I am having is that when I call myTextView.setPadding(100,100,0,0), it moves the actual Text of the TextView, but does not move the Colored Background of the TextView.

Whenever the memory needs to be reclaimed, the process is being killed by Activity Manager Service in killPidsForProcess. I have a back button in my activity window on right corner of the title bar.

I want to be able to show the Battery Info activity in my app, which shows things such as the exact level, battery health, etc.I'm not sure how I can get it, though a few applications such as Power Manager, Any Cut, etc. show this screen as well. I found in the source code of Settings this intent in a file called testing_settings.xml,But I don't know how to use it. I would guess from the fact that Any Cut has a list of activities, that a list of said activities exists somewhere, and therefore an easy way to access them exists, but I haven't found it.
