Android :: Sysinfo CPU Load In DDMS Not Working With 2.2 Devices
Aug 27, 2010
After updating to Froyo on a Nexus One, the CPU load pie chart graph is no longer displayed when connected with the standalone DDMS. It still shows up for an AVD with 2.1, however.
Is there some setting, something I can turn on/off on the N1 so that DDMS can display its CPU load again? Is this a known change/issue going from 2.1 to 2.2?
This is with the latest SDK (android-8 platform) running under Vista 64bit.

I am developing my am on mac (10.5.8), on eclipse and SDK 1.6 and a Vodafone HTC Magic Everything was working ok up to a few days ago. I can not see my device on adb devices. I also got a Sony Xperia and I can not see it on the list either. I upgraded the phone software (the HTC) to 1.6 a few days ago. Maybe that is what caused the change, but I could not be sure.

I dont want to use Eclipse.
From the command line:
An emulator is running. adb server is running. "adb devices" lists correctly and I can see my instance on an avd in the output.
However when I manually start DDMS from the command line it just keeps trying to connect. I can find no connection config issues. (yes, it works from within eclipse and ddms shows threads etc)
System : Debian Squeeze
I ran update-java-alternatives to be sure java was set up properly for "Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_20-b02)" . Not too much of a surprise to seasoned Debian users my Java is now worse ... When I run ddms from the command line I get :--
CODE:...........

I can't get DDMS to load any KML files.
I have a KML file for example with the following in it:
code:..........
The docs at http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/ddms.html seem to indicate that I only need to launch my app and fire up DDMS and load the KML. That doesn't work.
I even tried the Google Earth solution suggested at the same link.
I'm using SDK 1.5_r2. I am doing something wrong or missing something?

We have an application that is restricted to one country (Norway). But I am sitting here with multiple devices, HTC Wildfire, SE XP10 (after 2.1 upgrade) and SE XP 10 Mini (after 2.1 upgrade) that fails to find the application even though they are registered on a Norwegian network (Tele2). The SE devices found the application before they got the 2.1 upgrade, and I have lots of other devices (Nexus One, HTC Desire, HTC Tattoo, Galaxy Tab) that finds the app without any problems.
This is very important for us since we can't enable the app worldwide due to copyright issues, so is there any way to resolve this issue? Is it the operator or the Android device that fails to report the correct country here?

This works great for files.I marked the location needing refactoring to get it to work with a bitmap. I can't seem to find a compatible ContentBody for .addPart.The problem I am trying to solve is that I already have the image in an ImageView within an Activity, so rather than read it again from the SD cara, I want to pass it to this method directly.I will probably scale it while I am at it.

I have been thinking about rooting my phone ever since i got it, the Evo is my first Android phone so I'm kinda new to all of this. When Z4Root came out I thought about using it but then noticed that it did not work on NAND devices. The reason I have not rooted is because of the warranty stuff. So I have a few questions I need to ask. I see that with Z4root they have added an option for temporary root which will work on NAND devices, if I do use this will they be able to tell my phone was rooted after a restart, will the temporary root allow me to use apps such as wireless tether for root users, if I root and have insurance on my phone will they not acknowledge the insurance since it is rooted, and if I unroot the phone by restarting will the warranty still be acknowledged.

I have a Sprint Samsung Galaxy s3 and a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. The Play Store stopped working on both devices 2 days ago at the same time. Play Store from the both devices shows I have no apps installed. When I go to the ALL tab I get the following message "Error retrieving information from server. [RPC:S-5:AEC-0]". I get this on both devices. If I look at an app that I already purchased it shows that I have not purchased it. If I try to purchase it I get this message "Error retrieving information from server. [BM-PPH-01]". I can't install them to my devices from the play store via my PC either. I have tried clearing cache and data, deleting my Google account from phone and tablet then setting them up again. Date is correct on both devices.

Note 10.1 (N8020).
Allshare video playback from other devices over wifi just stopped working. It was totally fine and I have absolutely no idea what happened. It still plays music and shows photos and all the files stored on external devices. The only problem is that it won't play video. It plays video stored locally or on sd card just fine, but when I want to play anything from my note 2 (n7105) or my pc's allshare app, video player shows error message: "Cannot play video. This video cannot be played".
It plays the same files just fine, when I copy them to the device, so I think it might be the case of some transcoding error. It is not a case of network settings - I've checked on 4 different wifi networks and it's the same everywhere. My note 2 works just fine on any wifi and plays all video from tablet or pc. Here is what I tried so far, with no results:
1. Restoring to factory defaults,
2. Wiping cache and dalvik cache,
3. Flashing fresh stock rom,
4. Erasing all allshare apps and video player data

I have been assigned the task to use an android tablet to run a single app in an enterprise setting. Ideally, when one switches on the tablet this app should be loaded perhaps during startup and the user need not step out of this app. The app logic itself is rather easy but I am wondering if it is at all possible to load a single app during load and not allowing the user to step out of it.

Is it possible to load a layout XML at runtime and load into activity?
In my app, I have various types of data like Person, Company, City, etc; The requirement is to dynamically load the layout, find views by tags (property names like Person.name, Person.address) and then fill in data. For example, if user has selected an object of type Company, we want to load a company.xml layout, inflate it and then associate various properties (company name, company slogan, city, address, revenue) to tagged views. One possibility I see here is - each view in the layout will be associated with property-name as tag and then appropriate data will be loaded in appropriate views.
What should be the best design you would recommend?

I am trying to debug my device from a windows system with no IDE, just the android sdk, jdk and jre. I am using the ddms to do so. I works fine. I can see the entries in the logcat in the ddms. Among others I can see 'Wrote stack trace to /data/anr/traces.txt". But when I select the Device->File Explorer... and try to open the data folder, there is nothing there. It looks like an empty data folder.

emulator ddms junits
I'd like to do step-by-step using eclipse-rcp, emulator and ddms.
I can see in DDMS perspective the thread of Helloworld example running.
I change perspective to debug and I set breakpoint, but the application doesn't stop.

Probably a stupid question with an obvious answer, but I can't figure it out by myself. Tutorial (http://source.android.com/source/using-eclipse.html) says to go to the root of the downloaded platform, and first start emulator (it starts successfully), and then run $ddms.
But when I'm trying to do so, it fails: ~/mydroid$ ddms No command 'ddms' found, did you mean: Command 'dkms' from package 'dkms' (main) Command 'xdms' from package 'xdms' (universe) Command 'dds' from package 'dds' (universe) ddms: command not found

I'm having a problem where I am able to update the location in the Android Emulator from the Eclipse DDMS exactly once per time an activity is loaded, but no more.
I discovered the problem in my application where Activity2 (which accesses the GPS) is started by Activity1 (which doesn't do anything particularly interesting); when Activity2 is started, I can update the GPS position using the Manual input in Location Controls in the DDMS and everything works fine. However, then I get a LogCat message "TTFF: XXXX" where XXXX is an apparently random number, and then the GPS will no longer update. However, if I click the Back button in the emulator to return to Activity1, and then use Activity1 to restart Activity2, I can enter a new GPS location. But, I can't enter a second one; tries to do so result in no apparent action. My application works perfectly well on a real device with a real GPS signal.
To test things further, I closed and reopened the emulator, immediately closed my application (from Activity1, which doesn't do anything besides load an XML layout and attach an onClick listener to a button), and loaded Google Maps. I observed the same behavior here; I could send one position that Google Maps would respond to, but any subsequent attempts to update position fail. When I close Google Maps and reopen it, I am able to send exactly one more location update from DDMS.
The distance between my subsequent location updates is usually 0.02 degrees, but I have tried it with up to 5 degrees also. My application does not use ACCESS_MOCK_LOCATION because I want to switch back and forth between testing on a physical device and testing on the emulator without having to update the manifest for each build, plus it seems like setting a permission for my application shouldn't have anything to do with Google Maps on the emulator.
I would try loading up a GPX path, but the DDMS seems broken there too: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa...

In the DDMS, I had used FileExplorer and visited /data/app folder to see the .apk files installed in the emulator. After that I had minimized the data folder and thus stopped that process.
But I am observing that this /data/app folder is opening again and again automatically. I dont know what is the reason and how to stop it.

Is there a way to cause the application to do a core dump and is there a tool for analyzing dumps? I accepted that it was bug in Helios but I now find that I'm now getting the same error under Eclipse 3.5
When I send a location from the DDMS perspective using the emulator control tab. I have a standard listener:
onLocationChanged(Location location){...}
If I break on the first line of this, having sent the lat/lon pair of 53.5/-3.0 from the DDMS tab, then the mLatitude/mLongitude in the location argument have changed to 53.508833/-3.005000 (6 dec places only shown).
The Android SDK is 2.2 in both and the target is Google APIs level 7. Does anybody else experience this or could offer a possible explanation? (It amounts to quite a big error in terms of metres on the map.)

When the second person want to debug application on another emulator on the same PC emulator-5556 <===> DDMS B <====> Eclipse B. The DDMS B can't communicate to emulator-5556 rightly. Seems emulator-5554 and emulator-5556 both controlled by DDMS A. How to resolve this problem?

I'm getting a server response back in ddms,But I'm finding that ddms logs only show about the first 50 lines of the response, then cuts everything else off, which isn't very helpful, since it means I can't see any of the useful info. I don't have much control over the content of the response it's a standard Django debug page, i.e. quite long. Does anyone know how I can get ddms to show the whole thing?
