Android :: Swype Version 1.56.30.7625.t100 - Trial Ended?
Sep 18, 2010
I just downloaded this version of Swype maybe two (three?) weeks ago on my 2.2 Froyo Evo phone. After experiencing Swype I would NEVER go back to the old keyboard. Unfortunately, today, I was told my trial version has expired. Now I can only use the Swype keyboard ,but can't 'swype'.

I am looking for an offline GPS program.
But I would like to try it before purchasing it as these programs are quite expensive...
Does anyone know about one (or several!) GPS program that allow the user to try it for some time before purchasing it?

I want to make a trial version, where the application functionality works a limited amount of times. The consumer will then be given the option to buy the complete version on Android market. How can I implement that?
I could write some info to the sdcard after each start of the app and then read that info on the next start or reinstallation of the app. But would that work? This thread
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa... :
says that there's no 100% sure way to keep someone from reusing a trial version. That seems strange. It is possible to make a functionable trial version in J2ME with the RecordStore class. Why shouldn't this be possible in Android?

Way back when, I put Swype on my Dinc, and it was amazing for about a month. Then it said "Trial has run out" or something or other. And even if I re-installed, it just wouldn't work. Is there a full version I can download that won't expire?

I have had the Swype "Trial" for a while now, but have not used it. I decided to start using it just to give it another go. (After watching that guy crush the World Record for Texting using Swype). I long pressed for input method, selected swype, and attempted to use. I got a "Your trial has ended please upgrade your version of swype." I have looked everywhere and am not able to find a different version of the one that I have. I have tried another download of it and get the same result. Is there another version of it out there that I am not seeing or am I just stuck until they reopen beta or just release the app?

When I installed the latest version of Android on my Droid, my Swype stopped working (again!). When I re-installed it now it says I have to upgrade Swype as the trail is over. I looked on their web site, butI don't see any way of upgrading. Is there a way around the need to upgrade or how do I get the upgrade?

I installed the lastest version of swype( did not have anything installed on this ROM).I saw the other thread was locked so I'm starting a new one I guess. Everything installed fine, but nothing happens when I swype. Manually typing works but when I swype it just shows the line makes a noise and nothing happens.

Ever since I installed the new version of Swype (i have an official version), I constantly get a pop up tips screen. It tells me how the word I just typed was replaced by an earlier word I just types, and tells me how to delete it.It comes up constantly! From swipe settings, Ive disabled the enable tip indicator to no avail. Its really hampered my user experience.I also have the other issue people mentioned where i have to reboot my phone, because it stops "swyping".Surprising to me that an upgrade is actually a downgrade.

I've been using Take5 for quite awhile now; however, recently, I decided to flash to the official 1.6 OTA release just out of curiosity. After playing around with it for a little while, I decided to flash back to Take5 (because I missed having root and I really don't like TouchWiz). After flashing back to Take5, I noticed that my baseband was still the new one (T939UVJE2) and I thought to myself, alright I got the new baseband out of this. Anyways, on to Swype... The official 1.6 OTA release includes a newer version of Swype than Take5. Upon testing it, I found it to work a little better than the one in Take5 (slightly more accurate and a little faster). Could someone please send me the new version of the swype apk that's included in 1.6 OTA release?

I am using the onScroll method of GestureDetector.SimpleOnGestureListener to scroll a large bitmap on a canvas. When the scroll has ended I want to redraw the bitmap in case the user wants to scroll further ... off the edge of the bitmap, but I can't see how to detect when the scroll has ended (the user has lifted his finger from the screen). e2.getAction() always seems to return the value 2 so that is no help.
e2.getPressure seems to return fairly constant values (around 0.25) until the final onScroll call when the pressure seems to fall to about 0.13. I suppose I could detect this reduction in pressure, but this will be far from foolproof.

I want to move an image around the screen according to the trackball movement. I am able to capture the movements using the onTrackballEvent method. But this is being called for very small float values (I believe for each rotation?) of the trackball. Now as X and Y positions of views should be integers when specifying with LayoutParams, it makes no sense to move the view with every rotation. Instead I want to move the view only after the user stops rotating the trackball. Is there any method by which we can get whether the user stopped using the trackball or not?

I have this task: "recognize dropped calls, and get information about cause of the drop". Use these. For example: If in a phone call the called partner presses the red end call button, the Call Control sends the following message to me: " Cause No.17 "user busy" " (3GPP 24.008). So, I would like to read cause codes ( exit codes in Symbian) when the call is ended. I can use Java or C++ (JNI).

What's the app that changes the default end call behavior? I believe it gave multiple options beyond defaulting to the call log, as I frequently misdial after ending a call.

What happens when you uninstall a paid app before the trial period ends and you re-install? Are you automatically charged or do you get the remaining time from that 24 hours?

Does anyone have a somewhat secure method of expiring a trial version of an app a certain amount of time after an install? I do not want to use a server, because I am making a game that shouldn't need permissions. I would like the expiration data to survive an uninstall, but I am ok if it doesn't survive a manual edit of the database. Do an application's database entries get deleted when an app is uninstalled? How about preferences? Local files? Other methods?

I am planning to release a trial version of my app and am looking into best ways to implement the logic. My lite version of the app would have all the features but will be time restricted. I see a couple of issues:
- Currently there is no mechanism built into android that allows an app to be closed. I see that you can close the main acitivity, but the user can always press the back button and go back into the app.
- After trial period, the user can always un-install the app and re- install it. What do I do to prevent this from happening?

Is there a way to detect upon install or first use, if another app (in this case, the trial version of the same app from the same developer with the same key but different package name) is still installed? If yes, then the next question is can one app uninstall another with the same key, if the user gives the go ahead? In my case, the app has a listener for some events, and I don't want the trial AND the full copy both firing up on those events.
