Android :: Specify Port When Programmatically Listening For SMS Messages?
Feb 13, 2009
I can get SMS messages by using the syntax below: code...
But what I really need to do is listen on a particular port.
It appears you can set it in the manifest like below, but this is a utility class so it doesn't have a manifest:
<data android:port="8192"/>
I'm looking at the IntentFilter documentation, but I'm not sure what to use...
Does 'port' fall under "Data Path"? Is it a "Category"?
Can you even add properties like that to a programmatically created IntentFilter (I presume you can)?
Also, I am interested in reading the message (as part of a control scheme), will this trigger some sort of notification to the user to decide who/what gets to handle the SMS?

I have a thread listening on a TCP port. When there's nothing coming in on that port, the thread blocks. This is fine, and the behaviour I want, but how do I kill said thread while it's blocking?

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about programmatically getting the sms messages off of your phone's sim card on an android platform. I would like to write a program that allows you to save either individual messages or entire threads to the sd card, but after looking around for a bit, I have discovered that google decided to take out that api from the current android sdk. I saw in a few places that there are hidden apis for this, but no one knew what they were or how to use them.

I want to create an advanced WiFi access points scanner for a university project. Currently I am using the WifiManager.getScanResults() api call. It seems that not all the data I see using a wifi sniffer (Wireshark) is available using this api.
Can I get access to each beacon the wifi interface receives at its raw state? Can I listen to beacons on android and process them as byte[]?

In my ideal little dream world, I'd like to have a custom service running that handles network comms. Activities (e.g. UIs) then add listeners to it and it provides callbacks when anything interesting happens.
As it stands, I can't see how to do this in an appropriate way. OK, you can call bindService() and have a ServiceConnection implementation that monitors the service state. From there you can easily talk *to* the service whenever you desire, using serialisation over transactions, but I don't think that helps with communication initiated by the service.
The only way I know of doing what I want is by maintaining static collections of listeners on the service class, which doesn't strike me as good engineering.

I am looking for a way to listen to educational talks that I have as MP3s and podcasts at twice the speed. My brother does this on his iphone and he learns twice as much as me. I like .podkast and google listen but neither offer that option. Also tried the stock media player, tune wiki and cubed 3 - no luck on double speed.

Is there a app or a way to not have a call come through my cell when listening to Pandora or some other audio app? This happens frequently and it's a pain in the ass to get back to normal after I send the call to voicemail. I'd like to have it where incoming phone calls don't interrupt audio streaming. I have a Samsung Moment.

Is there a way to listen for application launches?I'm trying to develop an application where the user can specify a list of applications that he/she wants to "protect." If they are in this list, then whenever the application is launched, my app will ask them to enter a password.However, I've been going through the Android SDK for days and can't figure out how to listen for application launches.

I have a BroadcastReceiver that listens for the BOOT_COMPLETED, that part works I know because I disabled my phone listener and displayed a Toast within. That BroadcastReceiver is supposed to start a service, that also works. I run into Force Close issues when my service attempts to tell my TelephonyManager to listen. Any one have any ideas? Here is my code StartSeviceAtStartUp.java import android.content.BroadcastReceiver; import android.content.Context; import android.content.Intent;

I listen to MP3's with headphones quite often while @ the golf range about 2-3 times a week. I just plug in a random non OEM 3.5 MM earbud headphones (like the white apple one lol ), but sometimes more often than not the eris goes buggy and starts fast forwarding through songs / skipping songs / playing at a faster rate. It seems to this when you press or slightly wiggle the 3.5 MM jack on top, so when it's in my pocket i 'accidently' hit it sometimes. Now i dont know if touching the jack is why it's doing this but that is just theory/conclusion. Does anyone get this problem (people who use headphones while playing sports or having the phone in their pockets?) and/or does anyone know why it happens or how to fix it?
- Another question i have is an accessory question but ill go ahead and ask it here to kill two birds with one stone. Can anyone suggest a good OEM earbud headphone for the Eris? I saw some that aren't actualy 3.5 MM jacks but plug into the Mini-USB port on the bottom, I wonder what kind of headphones came with some people's eris'.
