Is there a way to obtain the size of the notification bar and title bar in android? At the moment I obtain display width and height with code...
After that I want to subtract the sizes of the bars so that I can stretch a video without loosing ratio. Currently I hide the bars because I can't see a better way.

I'm writing a preference screen in in xml for my Android application. My issue is that some of the titles of the preferences are too long and will not wrap the page. Consider my example:

android:title="Language Detection (BETA)"
android:defaultValue="false"
android:summary="Automatically decide which language to use"
android:textSize="15px"
android:lines="4"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
Maybe I'm missing something but I have tried using number of other properties with no positive results. I have tried android:singleLine, android:lines, etc., and none of these seem to effect the title of the preference. Also is there a way to scale down the size of a CheckBox title?
Anyone know what the default Activity Title font size/style is? I'm creating a custom title but would like to match the other Activities.

I have a custom title bar that I would like to apply to all my activities. I have searched online and found a few ways of doing that however I have ran into a problem. It seems that despite the fact I have a TextView in my titlebar with id @android:id/title, Android will not use the value defined in the manifest in android:label for each activity. I tried also calling setTitle(R.string.myTitle) but it still will not render it! If I manually put some text in my TextView in the xml it shows up fine. How can I have a custom title bar that is linked and makes Android use my manifest values for labels? I do not want to lose the setTitle() or the XML attributes functionality.

My xml for the title is a framelayout to hold the logo inside of a linearlayout to change the background color, and I'm setting the title in OnCreate() as follows:

With this setup, the old gray from the old title bar still exists around the edge of my custom title. Appears to be on the order of 3-4 px on the bottom and 8-10 px on each side. Any ideas about how to get the black background to cover the entire area?
I've been playing around with Android development and one of the things I'd like to be able to do is dynamically create a background image for my windows, similar to the one below.This is from my BlackBerry app. It consists of three separate parts, the bottom right logo, the top left watermark, and the bottom right name. It works independent of screen size because the BlackBerry app just gets all three parts and generates an appropriately sized bitmap using the screen width and height.Since Android has quite a bit more screen resolution possibilities I need to be able to generate backgrounds on the fly like this. However, I have not found any way to get the height/width of the window in Android. I can get the screen resolution, but that includes the application title bar and the notification bar, which is unacceptable.I'd like to know how to get the size of my window, or screen resolution minus the title and notification bars. I think this might be possible using the dimensions of my layout managers but I cannot get the height/width of them in the onCreate method so I'm not sure what to do exactly.

I want to add frame to image with title and subtitle. The thing that I want to do is as follows : There are number of styled frames available and user selects any picture from the phone memory or takes a picture from camera, now on selecting any frame that picture should be in that frame. Also below that frame there should be title and subtitle of the image.

This is my first post. I've had a Moto Droid since day one, and I just love it. It is without a doubt better than any phone that I've had over the years, and that includes the iPhone, BB, etc.
However, there are 2 things that I don't understand - Font size and a spell checker. It is imposiible to read the small font size in emails or text messages.
1. Why has there not been an app to either change the font size or be able to zoom in? Picasy has incorporated multi-touch for zooming, so I've to assume that its doable! Why not have the same in an email client.
2. Why is there not an email client out there that allows for spell checking? There are many such apps for the BB! I am a terrible speller.
I am not complaining, I just want to understand the limitations from a developers prospective, as I am sure these isuues will eventually be addressed.
Is there a way to transfer picture from my album o facebook and put a comment about the picture? I can only transfer picture and it does not allow me to add a comment

I'd like to fix the size of my ImageView so that it only shows a portion of the image if it's larger than a preset amount. I've tried everything I can think of setting the setMaxWidth/setMaxHeight, setting the scale type to centerCrop, using ClipableDrawable wrapping my BitmapDrawable, setting using Drawable.setBounds(). I've tried setting in the XML and programmatically, but neither worked. I'm very surprised setting max width/height didn't do anything. I am using a self-provided sqlite database ( > 50mb ) . I tested that once the built .apk size exceeds ~30mb the app will not be installed onto the simulator (INSTALL_FAILED_ INSUFFICIENT _STORAGE). Could anyone confirm me that if up until now there is no way to embed such large size files in a single apk ( Aimed to sell at Google Market without requiring user to download datafile afterwards). Also, is there a limitation of 1,048,576 bytes for a single file in the assets folder ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedCan somebody explain to me what makes up the installed application size? I have an apk that is about 8 MB, and often when I install I get the INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE error. I have around 25-30 MB free space on the phone. I'm doing debugging so I have to upload lots of new versions. If I uninstall the previous version then I can install the new version. The application manager claims that the app is taking up 22 MB. So back to the original question, how come the app is taking up 22 MB when it really only is 8 MB?

What is strange is after having installed it in the device (2.1 firmware) I checked the size of the apk when I uninstalled it from the device and surprisingly the apk size indicated is bigger even than the .so one. Is there any explaination of that?

I kept getting OutOfMemoryErrors (if anyone could explain this too, that'd be great!) and so I took a look at the sizes of the images saved to the sd card, and they seem to be roughly double what they are on the server. Why is this, and how can I make them smaller?
