I would like to show the current version of my application. Is it possible to extract the values "android:versionCode" and "android:versionName" from the Manifest with any Java method?

I'm beginner of Android.I want to run my first application on emulator. I use eclipse.I don't know what's happen. I installed my apk. I "register" my acitivity in manifest file, but I can't see it in list of application. When I open manage application setting it's written that my apk is installed. I searched about it everywhere. Even in faq of Android Development there is post about but I did all this things.

I've noticed that one of the apps that I have installed (24 Clock by Talionis Software) I cannot find when I use the Eris to search the marketplace. I used the "search" function, I scanned the QR code, I searched "pub:"talionis software"". Nothing, nada, zip.Is this because the Eris is running Android 1.5 vs 2.0 on the Moto, or is something more sinister afoot? Is there a difference in the marketplace software?She asked (told) me to put the "24" digital clock on her phone, too, and so far I'm coming up empty.Do some apps not play well with different Android versions?

But I just discovered that whenever I try to add another call when I am in a call, it promps me to complete the action using. 1. my app 2. The normal phone And when I click on my app, it just opens my app. I do not understand what is causing this and do not want my app to be shown in that list.

If not, when is this going to happen? It's been in J2ME for years! I saw some post about it being available via compiling the framework, what does this mean? Does this mean an app can be done that uses bluetooth or is this just for developemt only? I am only just starting to look at Android, so totally new to this. However, if I can't do bluetooth SPP connections then it's no use to me for what I want, so I'll not bother for now.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI made a mistake and I still had the debug version of my app (from Eclipse) on my phone when I tried to install a signed version. The install failed, but I could no longer access the debug version in Manage Applications to un install it. I was at work and couldn't reinstall the debug version in order to uni nstall, so I did a complete factory reset of my phone (using My Backup Pro to backup stuff). Now I can install my app. However, now I notice upon reboot that my app loses all of its data from shared preferences. I'm not entirely sure that it's not a problem of mine somehow, but does anyone know why it is doing that and how I can fix it? I may have left the debug gable. true on in the version I'm trying to test. Would that cause this problem?

I need help finding the right email app.The default one is horrible. The problem I am having is that it doesn't differentiate new emails from old. Every time I open the inbox in any of my email accounts, it always shows all emails as new. I don't know which one's I read or not. It's not bad if it takes me directly to the email, but when I have emails for multiple inboxes, I don't know which ones have the new email. I called tmobile tech support and was told that unless I delete the read emails from the server, the phone will keep reloading them as new. On my old phone, the messages I read where marked as read and stayed that way. When I got a new email, it was clear which one it was because it was highlighted.
Also, I've just switched to the g1 from a business phone, so I'm really new to this still. The couple things that I would like to figure out how to do is, first, I would like to know how I can search my contacts both by name or business. I've transfered the contact info from outlook to the g1 and so I have both name and business information. However, when I search using the keyboard, I can only search by name. If I put in the name of the company, it doesn't show up. Also, is it possible to have both shown. On my old phone when searched for either the person name or business name, the result showed both. For example, if I searched for lauren or Unico, it would show up as Lauren with Unico below it. Also, this way if I have more than one lauren, I can distinguish between them without having to click through each one.
Secondly, is it possible to set up "speed dial" function. Basically, if I pull up the dialer and press 2 for like 2 seconds it will. Third, I used to have my phone setup that I would have what ever my next appointment was, it would show on the home screen. Is that possible with this phone. Is it possible to allocate certain space on the home screen to preview upcoming appointments.
I have uploaded an application in Android market. But when I search for the app the app do not appear in the autocomplete box which appears below the search box. For example, if I type "h" in the search box the autocomplete box will have the applications with "h". But in my case I need to type the complete name of the application.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat is the recommended way of creating a demo version for an application. Basically, the demo version will be fully functional, but will be limited to running it 25 times. My worry is that if the user uninstalls and reinstalls, the count will be reset. I thought about writing a data file to the SD Card with the count of executions (hoping that would persist after uninstall), but I do not want to add that permission if I can avoid it. Any suggestions on how to have some type of demo flag persist after an uninstall?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an application for which I am planning to release both a free and a paid version. I found that this will require the two versions of the application to each have different package names.
When a user upgrades from the free version to the paid version, the paid version needs to be able to access the database built by the free version. I am trying to understand the best way to make sure that upgrade does not disrupt the user's data.
I have read that the AndroidManifest file setting for shared user id should allow both applications to access the same data. I don't need the applications to both be running simultaneously, as I expect the user will uninstall the free version after upgrading to the paid version. However I need to make sure that if possible the user's data is not lost and is still accessible and usable by the paid version of the application.
I have read about a problem with the shared user id where uninstalling one application will cause the other shared application to stop working because its permissions get deleted, (see details at http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2773 ) Apparently this issue is fixed in doughnut, but since all the currently deployed android phones do not have doughnut yet, this still seems like a significant problem.
In addition to the database information, I would also like to preserve the user's default shared preferences settings after the upgrade. However the default shared preference settings are not as critical as the data in the database.

But, "Platform Eclair is a preview and requires application manifests to set minSdkVersion to 'Eclair'" error message is shown. Does it mean minSdkVersion information should be inclused in Camera manifests.xml file as "Eclair"? If there are anyone know this, please share your valuable information.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a paid app in the market place, we would like to release a demo of the paid app. I was hoping we could just recompile w/ the same package name, but apparently that does not work. I have tried manually changing package name etc, but it is a chore, and it seems that several things that automatically happen in eclipse cause more harm than good when renaming the package name. Which brings me to my next question. If having a new package name is the only way to accomplish this. Is there an easy way to fork the paid app, where keeping the changes synchronized is easier? Some kind of Source Control?

When people buy the application, I want them to be able to "upgrade" without losing their data, i.e. the premium version should install over the free version.I want to use the same code base and just switch a setting to build the premium version.
Andoid Market does not let me convert a free app to a paid app, so the trivial option is not available.I am curious if someone has tried this successfully. How does Android Market identify an application - will it think that the premium version is a different app and just install it in parallel?
I just got my new HTC legend and i soo love it. i love it so much that i downloaded apps including the "better keyboard" app bec. i really like to customize with diff. skins. Now, problem what i downloaded was a beta version and expired already. i can't bring back the original htc keyboard. i am stuck with this thai keyboard. Plus another thing, i am so willing to buy Better keyboard but i cant find where and how i could. so frustrating. i still have all the skins i downloaded here in my phone.
