Android :: Setup Droid Sdk That I Built With Eclipse Adt Plugins?
Jun 11, 2009
I download android source and build a sdk from it (via make sdk). I have also installed ADT on my eclipse. My question is how can I setup ADT to point to the SDK that i built (it keeps saying it can't find the 'tool' directory and then it can't find the 'adb' under tool).

On my brand new Windows 7 machine, I downloaded Eclipse (Galileo) and several Eclipse plugins (Android's ADT plugin, Subclipse, etc.) After rebooting, neither of these plugins are showing up in the IDE (nothing in the preferences, menus, etc.) but if I click "Installation Details" in the 'About Eclipse' popup, I see all of the plugins listed as Installed Software. (ex. Android DDMS 0.9.5, Subclipse 1.6.5, etc.) How do I get my plugins to work?

I've downloaded the Eclipse and ADT plugins for the SDK. My question is of the most basic kind, where is Eclipse supposed to be installed? It's a ZIP instead of an executable installer, so I'm left to figure out what folder to unzip it to.

While compiling android project in eclipse 3.4.2, am getting The project cannot be built until the build path errors are resolved. I got a temporary solution from the blog http://www.scottdstrader.com/blog/ether_archives/000921.html
The resolution was to force a resave of the selected projects (and their .classpath files):
Open the project properties
Select Java Build Path > Libraries
Add a new, arbitrary library (to be deleted later) > OK
Wait for the workspace to refresh (or force a refresh of the project)
The error(s) will go away
Remove the dummy library
The only other references I could find were to make minor alterations of contents of the .classpath file.

An Android Java project placed in a git repository and built in an Android tree in /packages/apps needs to have the project files located at the root of the git repository.This is problematic for creating a complementary Test project, which should ideally be included in the same git repository so commits are atomic for both code and tests. Eclipse gets very unhappy if you include the Test project as a subdirectory.Is there an appropriate approach for dealing with this other than creating a second repository?

I've got Eclipse setup for Android/Java development and it seems to be working.
How do I add PHP development as well to the Eclipse installation?
Must I install Eclipse on a separate PC in order to do PHP dev ?
If I can add PHP to the Eclipse setup for Android/Java... where do I click to do it?

I set up my Eclipse as it is described on http://source.android.com/using-eclipse.
But how can I run the Email app on my device? An "run as..." on the source folder miss the Android simulator. When I use the Email sources to build a Android project, it miss a lot of dependencies.

Every app I make starts out with a number of common base classes, interfaces, utility classes and a basic package structure that has been working for me. Is there a way for me to set up a project template in Eclipse that will give me all of the basic Android project stuff PLUS a bunch of custom packages, classes and interfaces? I guess I could just put all of this stuff into one or more libraries as opposed to creating a whole project template, so if you have a preferred approach or information/links/etc on how to do any of the above, please share (I'm relatively inexperienced with Eclipse, so the more detail the better).

My HTC aria shows up when I run adb devices. It even shows the correct serial number. However, I can't find it as a target in eclipse. I am clicking on Run/Run Configurations. It brings up my project and a "target" tab. The emulator is the only thing listed, not my HTC aria.
Is there another step in setup that I have to do?

I have done many of reverse engineering for other electronics in the past, Since Im new to android I was wondering before even wasting my time if is possible to port, or built a rom from sources or a phone thatis NOT External SD built in to a phone that it have the external sd built in.
Making it short can I try to reverse engineer the android code from a Nexus 5 (no ext_sd) to other device that have ext_sd built in?
If is possible where should I be looking to start trying making some development on this as I haven't done nothing close quite.

I just finished setting up my Eclipse with the Android plug-in. (i.e https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/). Now when I do the following:
1. Eclipse > Preferences > Android, I see a lot of "Target Name" like Android 1.1 - Android 2.1
However, in the book that I'm reading, I'm also supposed to see a "Target Name" called "Google APIs". I don't see that. Is that a separate install?

I am following the following article to setup eclipse project for Android source
http://source.android.com/using-eclipse
But what should I set my eclipse output folder for my project to be? If I just use the .classpath file as it is in the development/ide directory, eclipse tries to compile the whole project everytime I change 1 line in 1 file. I am not sure why this is happening?

Some websites require to use Firefox and install JAVA or plugins to play movies. But when I use Chrome to open these webs and click on the guided link to download JAVA, it told me that there is no suitable version yet.
When I use Firefox to open these webs, it said there are no plugins, and didn't tell me what plugins.But I can open these movies on webs using android 3.1 or lower.
So, is it because ICS 4.0.3 hasn't supported to open webs which require JAVA or there are other ways to open these movies?

It only detects the ones you can actually open on your phone (e.g. the sportypal watch, which you can open via the android market. Not the ones that only has the uninstall button in the market)...

I have an Android project that contains a class that uses JNI to pull a value from a C function. The C function was built into a library using NDK. The value returned from the C function is in turn used to initialize a variable inside a class when its first loaded. This works fine. However, I also want it to work when the library is missing by providing a default value. So Im using something like this..
Despite the catch, Im still getting a UnsatisfiedLinkError when I try to run this code with the library missing. Why am I not catching the exception? What am I doing wrong?

I am developing a small app for Android. I am creating my own view.
I am planning to design the layout to be:
<LinearLayout>
<MyView>
<Button><Button>
</LinearLayout>
But when I run my program, my custom view will cover the whole screen. Is there anyway to avoid this?
I have already tried to add android:layout_width, layout_height to be wrap_content, fill_partent, but no luck.

Is it possible to programmatially read the date when my Android apk was built? I could not find anything in the PackageInfo class.
I want to expire beta versions of my app and the easiest way would be to read out such a date and expire it after a fix preiode of days, so I don't have to update the code for that eavery time I build and deploy a beta version.

1- Does Android Browser (Éclair code base) support the "plug-in" or not?
2- Why "Google Gears" support is removed from the clair code base?
I searched the forum and came to know that earlier version of the Android does not support it at all? Here is the link for that, but this query asked in Dec'2008.

Not sure if there is a way to do this or not, but I don't see an option to share a Youtube Video with a GChat conversation?When you long press the video, then Share, everything is listed to share too: facebook, twitter, messaging, gmail --- but not GChat.You can work around by Sharing to Gmail, then Copy the text, and paste it into your Gchat conversation, but hmm? How do you report that?
