Android :: SetContentView : Unable To Set TextView From Xml File / Fix It?

I see a strange problem when I try to set a TextView, instead of a layout file via setContentView.
Case 1: i.e. if I do the following, it works fine...
TextView tv = new TextView(this); tv.setText("Hello World"); setContentView(tv);
Everything is OK.
Case 2: But suppose I have a main.xml file with a TextView in it and I try the following:
=========== View tv = findViewById(R.id.textview); setContentView(tv); =========== I get a Force Close with the below error

Case 3: I even tried to inflate the xml and set the view but even that resulted in a force close.
Am I missing something here ?

I am trying to play file which is stored in SDCARD in emulator. I have Linux O/S. So i need to provide command in run configuration. I am providing following parameter.
-sdcard /usr/android/sdcard/mysdcard.iso -audio oss [i]
The following is my code to play file.

I'm trying to access the textviews (for starters, eventually replace with imageviews etc) which are stored in the tablerows in the code below.
The line beginning 'log.d' was the part I was working on, trying to get it to print out the contents of the 2nd text view in the first row, but I can only get as far as selecting the tablerow using "getChildAt(i)".
Trying "getChildAt(0).getChildAt(1)" doesn't select the textview as I would have expected it to; says that it's a View and as such, doesn't have this method - though unless I'm mistaken, aren't tablerows ViewGroups, which do have this method? code...

Is there any way that I can link a keyword in a TextView to a file or directory on the user's SD card? My app produces stack trace files when it crashes and I want the user to able to click a link in my About dialog to view either the latest one or the folder containing all of them. (Something like "If this app crashes, please send [link]the latest stack.trace file[/link] to us at myapp@example.com.")

I have an XMl file like below which I will use to set background for Textview:
row.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:shape="rectangle">
The above Xml I will set as background for TextView in main.xml as below:
main.xml
<TextView
android:id="@+id/rowtext3"
android:text="Availablity"
android:layout_height="25px"
android:layout_width="60px"
android:textSize="10px"
android:textStyle="bold"
android:textColor="@color/black"
android:gravity="center"
android:background="@drawable/row"/>
But I want this to do from code rather than Xml.I have done everything that I have done in Xml like font,width,Height,font dynamically through code , but not able to set Background that I mentioned in Xml file . How can we set content of Xml file as background to textview similar to how we set background as XML in main.xml.
In the code I have done like this:
t1=new TextView(this);
t1.setText(ed1.getText());
t1.setHeight(25);
t1.setWidth(60);
t1.setTextSize(10);
But I didn't find how to set background i.e. how to set XML content as background?

There is my code. The problem is with the inputStreamToString(iFile).It says that it is undefined. Im working my way through an android book and that is exactlly out of the book. So I have my main activity. It starts out adding a custom SurfaceView called DrawView as the content view with
DrawView drawview = new DrawView(parameters);
this.setContentView(drawview);
now my layout.main.xml is a layout with a video view which I am using to play my cutscenes. I am able to switch to this view by calling a method I made which switches the content view by
this.setContentView(R.layout.main);
which works fine when I am calling this method within the Activity. Only problem is I need to call this method from within DrawView! The method I made to switch to my cutscene is public and I do pass the Activity (named Draw) as a parameter of DrawView.
So when I do call this method from within DrawView my game freezes and will subsequently crash! however it works when method is called locally?

About installation of apk file in my android phone.
I am using htc android phone in that i am trying to install my application.
I developed application using eclipse ADT plugin and taken apk file and copied in my phone SD card -> Android folder.
After that i installed Astro file manager in my phone and trying to browse my apk file but still i unable to find Android folder and my apk file in the Astro file manager.

Using eclipse 3.4.1 and also 3.5 and I cannot seem to add a new layout .xml file.I tried adding it externally using windows explorer, but got all these errors.

I tried both versions of eclipse, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ADT plugin. Nothing seems to be working!

I tried changing preferences to alter build path to project, but it still wouldnt work,,,
Is subfolder on desktop a bad place to install Eclipse?

I have uploaded my application's .apk file to a server. When i try to download that .apk file to my android HTC HERO phone then it gives error saying "file size cannot be determined". I also enabled settings to "allow install of non-Market applications" in my HTC HERO. Please help me if i am missing somthing. and is there any signing we have to do in android like symbian signing in Symbian Devices?

I have seen other posts similar to this one but none of the solutions listed work for me. When I use the following command: adb pull /data/data/com.mydomain.myappname/databases/MyDatabase.db / home/me the following error results. failed to copy '/data/data/com.mydomain.myappname/databases/ MyDatabase.db' to '/home/me/MyDatabase.db': Permission denied I have no problems with the emulator. I am using a Dev Phone 2.

Did a fresh install of Eclipse, JDK and android-sdk.
I am currently receiving this error when creating a new project

What's the reason for this and how I fix it?
Eclipse Helios 32 bit
java version "1.6.0_21"
Android sdk API 8
P.S. Im new to Android development.
EDIT: I tried most of you solutions, but nothing worked. So I started using my frineds install of Eclipse Ganymeade.

I listen to music whilst commuting on a bike and whilst out riding a MTB, I have a pair of HTC headphones with in-line controls to make switching tracks easy but am infuriated by the music apps available.
I also have the Audiobooks app installed and despite many attempts I am unable to get any music app to ignore the file containing audiobook chapters.
As a result varied pieces of audiobooks get mixed up with the music tracks, I have tried using Median, Double Twist, 3Cubed and the standard player, non allow me to just select single folders containing MP3 files and they don't all recognise the in-line phones.
Are all music apps so amateurish or is there a really good one out there which I have not yet found.
Phone is a HTC Desire.
