SetContentView Of Activity Within Activities Current View?
Feb 17, 2012
So I have my main activity. It starts out adding a custom SurfaceView called DrawView as the content view with
DrawView drawview = new DrawView(parameters);
this.setContentView(drawview);
now my layout.main.xml is a layout with a video view which I am using to play my cutscenes. I am able to switch to this view by calling a method I made which switches the content view by
this.setContentView(R.layout.main);
which works fine when I am calling this method within the Activity. Only problem is I need to call this method from within DrawView! The method I made to switch to my cutscene is public and I do pass the Activity (named Draw) as a parameter of DrawView.
So when I do call this method from within DrawView my game freezes and will subsequently crash! however it works when method is called locally?

I have a toolbar view set for most of my activities.
The toolbar has several buttons which all trigger certain intents. Now, the problem is: how can I close current activity before starting another one ?
Problem 1) Activity cones For instance one of the buttons ('A') starts activity A. Activity A also has toolbar. If you press on the 'A' button, a new A activity will be started. I suppose I can look at Activity.getInstanceCount(), right ?
Problem 2) Unnecessary activities The activity X is not needed any more if the opts for A. I just want A then. How can I remove X from toolbar which only has access to context ?
I, of course could find toolbar view inside activity X and override the onClicks, but in general this would mean doing so for all my activities !? Am I on the right track ?

The default behavior of an activity when BACK softkey is pressed is, GO BACK TO PREVIOUS ACTIVITY. If some the same activity is waiting for some response from server or some data updation is going on and then press BACK, I want to wait on the same screen till the current task is completely processed and then move out to the previous activity.

Support App starts activity A, then A starts activity B and finishes itself. After that activity B starts activity C. Now the stack contains B and C, with C at the top. Then I click a button in activity C, and want it to clear B and C and start activity A, i.e. I want activity A to be the only activity in the stack. How can I make it?Edit: I made a test to use FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP. But it didn't work in my case, because activity A is not running when button in activity C is clicked.

I think it was the work one but I want to use the sprint scene and add that widget. Is this possible? Also, is there a to do list or task list app built in or do I need to download one. If I do have to download one are there any recommendations.

The official documentation describes tasks as follows: All the activities in a task move together as a unit. The entire task (the entire activity stack) can be brought to the foreground or sent to the background. Suppose, for instance, that the current task has four activities in its stack three under the current activity. The user presses the HOME key, goes to the application launcher, and selects a new application (actually, a new task). The current task goes into the background and the root activity for the new task is displayed. Then, after a short period, the user goes back to the home screen and again selects the previous application (the previous task). That task, with all four activities in the stack, comes forward. Is there a way to programmatically detect when the task of the current Activity moves into and out of the background? I would like to know when the user has switched switched to another application, vs. when the user navigated to another Activity in the current app.

My app is comprised of a set of reusable Activities that other apps can reuse. For various reasons, I would like my Activities to be launched in context of the invoking Activity's process, instead of always being launched in my Activity's process (default behavior on Android). How can I achieve this?

I have following problem with my application: From my main activity ("activity 1"), there is a menu from which user can launch an action. This action will result in an Intent being received by a BroadcastReceiver, defined in my application. Finally, this BroadcastReceiver will start an activity ("activity 2") to deal with this intent.
The problem is that I have a "quit application" entry in my menu, and I can only finish() currently active activity. ie I am not able to finish "activity 1" from the menu of "activity 2". And I can't use startActivityForResult() as "activity 2" can't be started from "activity 1". Any suggestion would be much appreciated Thank you very much guys, regards.

Is there a way to have a view "always-showing" between activities? I say, I need a button to be always appearing on the bottom of the screen.
I could get it working with an ActivityGroup, but I got a problem. My application can work with more than one level of activities, or rather, Activity A can start acitivity B that can start Activity C, all them with the button showing in the bottom. When I press "Back", I need activity C to finish and the focus to go back to B, but as I'm using an ActivityGroup, it does not work.

Is there any way to share the same object of the View across various activities? For example myApp has 4 activities, and every activity shows a Logo at the top of the screen. Now each activity will initiate 4 copies of the same Logo. So is there any way to get around this? And if 3 out of 4 share the same logo?

Were looking into Android for writing a tablet based system. Part of the design is for the system to be as modular as possible. One aspect of this is to display any "STATUS" activities in a side view on the screen. It looks like I can use PackageManager queryIntentActivities() to find the activities that show status information. But, can I display these in a single view all at the same time (via a linear layout)? The activities would be installed in separate apk's (features). Can this be accomplished using ActivityGroup? Is this even allowed in Android? Everything I've read implies that Activities take the whole screen or float on top. This implies only one activity can be active at a time where as the design I'm thinking of uses the activities more like widgets.

Say I have 2 activities (ActivityOne and ActivityTwo). How would I call ActivityTwo from ActivityOne? Then how would I return to ActivityOne from ActivityTwo? For example, I have a listview with all the contacts on the host phone. When I tap on a contact, another activity shows information and allows editing of that contact. Then I could hit the back button, and I would go back to the exact state that ActivityOne was in before I called ActivityTwo. I was thinking an Intent object, but I am not sure. Could someone post some code?

In particular the tab activity creates the socket and gets the i/o streams,so i want that tabbed activities use these streams to retrieve informations without reconnect to the server each time i switch from a tab to another. I know i can use the application class to have a global state, but i don't know how.
