Android :: Save Maps For Use Out Of 3g Area
May 17, 2010
Is there a way to save or cache maps and sat pics of an area that is out of network coverage while I am getting coverage so that when I get to the far away place I have map data?
Yesterday I was exploring a dirt road that I had previewed with the map application. When I got near my destination, I turned on the phone to see where I was and there was no image.

I'm trying to use my G1 as my GPS device when i go hiking. Since i will hit many spots outside of tower coverage, i am wondering if there is a way to download maps and save them to my phone, so that my GPS location will not be a blue dot amidst a sea of gray boxes. Is there any way for this? Google maps and AndNav both download stuff temporarily, correct? they won't show any maps if they can't locate Edge or 3G network.

Is there a way to save addresses in google maps like favorites for navigation? I have a lot of places I go back to and would like to have them saved in but I can't figure out how to save the address. I have a Droid X if that matters.

Maps is very powerful and I think it's one of the best features of the Droid, but I still feel like I don't understand a lot about it.
Sometimes I'll look up directions for a place I want to go later. How do I save that location? I know I can look it up with a PC and save it in "my Maps", then possibly access that layer on my Droid. But I just want a place to save destinations that I might want to go to later.
This is one example of many things that should be easy to do, but I don't understand how to.

I wanted to save my position as a bookmark yesterday so I could find the car park I was in again but I couldn't work out how to do it. I was with someone with an iPhone and the option on that was really obvious.

right away I am doing an app for an festival, and I want to make a area map / area plan. I have got a picture (bigger then the screen) and I want to be able to move it up/down and to the left/right. Further I want to place smaler icons (like the stage, you should be able to click on it and see who is playing) or doing the same in de big picture and get the touch with a x/y request.but I haven't got an idea how I could realise this,

1) Can I save excel or Word docs on my Droid if they are emailed to me? or do I have to just save the email?
2) When I try to locate certain rural addresses that are in my contact list (or anywhere) it is trying to chg what I type and give me a different address. For example.... 1430 Road K Town, state.... Changes it to 1430 K Street Town State.
Now this wouldn't be a big deal except when using the nav features. OUr address is like this and it can never seem to get it right.

I ask because I began using My Tracks a couple of weeks ago...very cool. I logged onto Google Maps from my office and there were the "tracks" I had saved. I never took action to upload them, they were just there I suppose as a function of allowing Google to sync. BUT I created and saved a map on the PC expecting to be able to see it on my phone, but it didn't happen.

I have a Motorola Moto G 8GB which is running very low on storage (only about 800mb left). This phone does not take Micro SD cards but it comes with 50GB Google Drive storage. However i haven't used this at all. I am wondering whether i could download android apps and games to google drive, dropbox etc. Games like Real Racing take up about 1GB so i cannot download it to my phone. Can i download it to the Cloud? If this is not possible, is there any way that i could save the app data on the cloud. E.g. The Simpsons: Tapped Out is about 37mb to download off the play store, but then you must download the updates etc which are about another 250mb. is there anyway to save this 250mb on the cloud. Or any other games data.

Is there an app that displays the location (state and/or city area) of an area code of a call as it is received? i had a samsung blade (a900 or something) that would display the state of the area code right below the number as the call showed up, and that phone is like 4-5 years old so i know this can't be too hard to do...

I wanna know which Weather App is the best. What I'm looking for is:
-One that shows me a radar of the area.
-One that has a widget.
-One that has hour to hour weather?
-Doesn't drain TOO much battery.
I've been comparing Weather Channel and Weatherbug, and it seems like both have their pro's and con's. Can anybody give their opinions on which is the best of these two (or possibly another I'm not finding) ?

I'm trying to find out if the user is still within range of his own area code. Detecting roaming doesn't solve the problem since the user may still be in the same network with a different area code. I thought about getting the user's coarse location to find the city he's is in but this approach needs Internet access and might not be fast enough (this is done as the user is making a call and needs to finish before the call is made). Is there any way I can do this with just the info from the cellular network?

I have HTC Evo and installed Graffiti some time ago with no problems. Yesterday I did an update of several apps including Graffiti, which required a manual update to a new version. Ever since the updates were completed, I have an ad show up in the text input area. This shows when I'm either doing a google search, text message, etc. It's always an ad for Netfront Life Browser (which I don't have installed). It's really irritating because I have to tap the ad to make it disappear which makes Graffiti think I'm hitting the screen to input punctuation. So I have to tap it again to remove punctuation mode before I can enter text. The ad also will pop up in the middle of inputting the Graffiti text. I'm not sure if the updated Graffiti is forcing the ads in, or if it's another app that is causing it. Any ideas on how to fix this? I hate to lose Graffiti but something has to give - it's now much slower to use Graffiti than regular keyboard.

I am trying to create a notification that will appear in the "ongoing" area of the notification bar (like WeatherBug).
Here is the code that I am using:
PendingIntent intent = PendingIntent.getActivity(lastContext, 0, notifyIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT | Notification.FLAG_ONGOING_EVENT | Notification.FLAG_NO_CLEAR)
From what I understand, FLAG_NO_CLEAR, should also prevent the notification from being cleared by pressing the Clear button, this is also not working.

Does anyone know of an app that achieves the display of recently used apps in the notification dropdown area?Essentially, performing the same function that a long press on the home button does, but obviously eliminating the need to press a button. I've been looking for something like this for a good while, and was pleasantly surprised to see HTC had included this very function in their latest version of Sense.... when I went to the HTC London meet last week. unfortunately, the HTC guys demoing informed me there is currently no way to obtain this feature for current handsets.

OK so I have an rss reader that links to articles. One of the sites it links to doesn't have a mobile view. I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to set the "zoom" and position of the view once the page is loaded? So for instance if the following link were my article... http://www.neworleanssaints.com/news-and-events/article-1/Saints-agree-to-terms-with-7th-round-pick-Sean-Canfield/cce6a9ca-eaee-4878-ad40-0b98609f7fe7 Then how could I have the view focus on the article without the user having to zoom in and scroll the the top of the article.

I want to judge whether the touch point(x, y) is in a region or not, the region is from a stardard rect by rotating specified degrees, from example, rotate 30 degrees. There is a class named Region in Android, but as I researched, it just supports standard rect, is there any other way to judge whether a point is in an acclivitous rect? How to do it?
