Android :: Release Scheduling On Android Market?

I was wondering what people do to limit the phones that can purchase my app on Android Market. I image I can limit this to some extent by using the API levels in the manifest but can I limit my app to just Droid/Milestone? I have only tested the app on these phones so I can't be sure that it will work on others. There are known issues with the Milestone and choosing an OpenGL config, among other issues, that I had to work around so it's not unreasonable that other phones can have similar issues. Also how do you do dynamic licenses via http post?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently updated about 10 apps manually that I already had on my G1, since I saw them relisted in the market (again) but higher up on the "by date" tab.This system is horrid.If a user has an app and a new release comes online it should not only notify the user it should offer to auto update and the first screen that pops up should be a release notes screen so we know why it was updated and what to look for.Another more minor annoyance is that devs seems to lose track of download counts and comments in new vers. This is much more minor, but useful to both the community and the device.If anyone from Android peeks in here, hopefully this makes a list of suggested improvements.
View 9 Replies View RelatedBeen using SwiftKey beta since Swype stopped working consistently and I got a notice this to upgrade to a final version (directly in advance of the Market release next week. It's definitely worth and it's learned my input habits so I hit just one button for most words. Just thought I'd let other users know.
View 36 Replies View RelatedI uploaded a new release of my app.
I downloaded the new version from the Market to try it out and I got the new binary, it also state V1.3.0, which is the new version. The description is from the release before that.
Very strange. When looking at http://www.cyrket.com/package/com.newsrob I see the old version V1.2.1 and the old description.
When looking at a G1 where the old version is installed it doesn't provide me with the option to upgrade it.
I followed the same steps as the weeks before. The Market has changed and I could use new options (DRM, not paid as I am not from the US/UK), but I kept the old options.
Meanwhile the old description is also in the developer's console (which I will change again right away), but it says 1.3.0 and when re-uploading the apk it says "The new apk's versionCode (130) in AndroidManifest.xml must be higher than the old apk's versionCode (130).", which is fine, well kind of.
I want to release an app on the market. It uses nothing new from the 2.0 release like bluetooth for instance and it works well in every emulator using version 1.6 to 2.1.My question is upon version of the sdk should I distribute my application to make it compatible with all devices running 1.6, 2.0 or 2.1?I only have a physical device running 1.6 to test it, but as I say, it uses nothing fancy and works well on emulators using API levels 4, 5, 6 or 7.

My wife has a habit of forgetting to lower the volume on her phone at night so we hear her reminders and such all night long (or at least until I get up and silence her phone)
I updated my app to use the "new" startForeground() method of Service. Now beta testers are complaining about the foreground app going slow. Is that a coincidence or does startForeground() mess with the thread's prio or does anything else but what is written below? Just as an additional information the background activity does some syncing, reports the progress to the notification using remote views and as it is not latency dependent I use (and did that before already) this: Process.setThreadPriority(Process.THREAD_PRIORITY_LOWEST);
Should I use another Priority? And if it makes any difference, how does that play with Android 1.5 devices?
I'm trying to find the "correct" way to do the following:
I have an activity with a button that starts a repeating task in the background. That is, if the user goes away from my activity, I want my task to still be scheduled and executed every x minutes. I want a status TextView to be displayed on the activity, and if the task happens to start executing while my activity is showing, the TextView should be updated so the user can be aware of what's going on. So basically, is there a way to start a scheduled background repeating task and be notified when it is executed? From what I saw in the sample applications, I understand I'm supposed to use AlarmManager and a Service but I'm not sure about the notification part.
I am writing a demo app that allows the user to set a number of times they want my app to run. The app has no interface and just puts shows some notifications. Running this as a service seems the most obvious.

In the 1.6 API, is there a way to ensure that the onStart() method of a Service is called after the service is killed due to memory pressure?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn the 1.6 API, is there a way to ensure that the onStart() method of a Service is called after the service is killed due to memory pressure? From the logs, it seems that the "process" that the service belongs to is restarted, but the service itself is not. I have placed a Log.d() call in the onStart() method, and this is not reached.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy internet package is capped but has unlimited usage between 2am to 8am. I have an internet stick (MK808B) running rooted jelly bean connected to my TV that I want to use as an overnight torrent client, but am having no luck finding a solution to the scheduling problem.
I've looked for an android torrent client with a scheduler or a firewall application that can block an app during specific times of day, but have found neither.
This is quick and easy. Can I get a sampling of what people are using for podcasting apps and likes/dislikes? Here is what I want to be able to do:
1. ESPN-"type" podcasts (scheduled, generally weekly, etc.)
2. Semi-"custom" podcasts (hometown newspaper podcasts, generally not scheduled)
Would preferably like something I can schedule to download at night.
Is there an app for having a text to be sent at a certain time or a certain place (using GPS)? I was curious because I need to send a text to someone at 5 AM to remind them of something. I'll be asleep, of course.
I thought I remembered reading about something at the Google Apps Innovation conference from last November or so, or an app like this.
I have connections in all different time zones, and I used to schedule my texts to go out during their daytime hours. Now with 4.3, I do not seem to have that option.

I am following the instructions on code signing on the Android Developer site, and it mentions that if you specify that you want to compile in Debug mode, it automatically signs the resulting file with a debug key. It also says that if you specify that Eclipse should compile in Release mode, that you can use the Export Wizard to generate a private key and handle the distribution signing.
Can someone point me to the setting in Eclipse for Release vs. Debug compiling. When I use the Export Wizard, I am only given the option to export unsigned. I am pretty sure I am stuck in Debug mode, since my app has no problem running in the emulator or my tethered G1.
I have a so called reliable resource who works in the T-mobile store, and so far he has been right about anything to do with G1. He predicted the OTA release, and that was right, but he has also said T- mobile will be releasing the cupcake to t-mobile customers in uk end of March. Of course all i/we can do is wait. if anyone has any information to back that claim it would be appreciated. I know there's loads of cupcake talk that has been going on for months. but i believe this is the real thing, else he wouldn't jeapordise these claims to get people to buy the G1 and then get hundreds of complaints if it didnt happen

I've tried: mCamera.setPreviewCallback(null); This class, where the surfaceview is implemented can be accessed by 2 different classes one that doesnt implement surfaceview and other that does the error just shows me when I go from the activity that uses the camera to the activity that also uses camera.I don't know what else to do.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to change free app into paid app in Market? I.e. you release com.foo.xxx as free but later you'd like to charge for app and drop free version completely.. I do not see anything like this in Market console at the moment. I know I can release com.foo.xxx.pro for example but my intention would be to keep package name as is so current users would see there's upgrade available. Alternatively, if there's no way to do that can I completely remove app from market so com. would be reusable for other app?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAll I'm baffled as to how this Market works. I was expecting a different version of the Market by now but things still seem awry. Say I have two apps - one free, one paid. I release updates to both. The free one is at the top of the list, but the paid one is down in the depths of the list. That kind of sucks. Is this really how it works? Or is something temporarily broken.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out a way to programmatically determine if my build was built in debug mode vs. release mode. I'd like to hide some items in my settings screen if it's release. When I build my app in Eclipse I'm building by default in Debug mode. However, when I build the app using the command line, I build it in release mode and sign the app using the jarsigner tool.
I've tried using:
PackageInfo appInfo = manager.getPackageInfo("com.adobe.psmobile", PackageManager.GET_SIGNATURES);
to test if
appInfo.signatures[0].toCharsString()
matches my debug signature and that didn't seem to work.
I'm now trying to see if I can introspect the app's KeyStore, to match the default debug alias described here:
http://developer.android.com/guide/publishing/app-signing.html of "androiddebugkey"
but I haven't figured out how to retrieve the app's KeyStore yet.
