Android :: Putting Multiple Selector Nodes In One XML File
Jan 24, 2009
I have a layout file with 6 image buttons.Each button should show different source image based selection/focus/noselection.I am able to do this with 6 xml files under drawable folder with selector/item nodes.Is there a way to put all these selectior nodes in ONE xml file to accomplish the same.Less files means less management.

My 1.6 app works fine in both portrait and landscape modes on the default HVGA device. I'm now trying to support it on QVGA devices and am encountering build-time errors I don't understand. In my res/drawable-ldpi directory I have:
startstopin.png startstopout.png and a selector file
startstopbuttonimageselector.xml
which contains:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:state_pressed="true" android:drawable="@drawable-ldpi/startstopin" />
<!-- pressed --> <item android:drawable="@drawable-ldpi/startstopout" />
<!-- default --> </selector>
I've 'fixed project properties' and done a 'clean' build, to no avail. The error I get is:
Error: No resource found that matches the given name (at 'drawable' with value '@drawable-ldpi/startstopin').
Error: No resource found that matches the given name (at 'drawable' with value '@drawable-ldpi/startstopout').
I've tried adding a layout file in res/layout-small that explicitly references this selector file, but this triggers a similar build error and fails to address the original problem:
Error: No resource found that matches the given name (at 'src' with value '@drawable-ldpi/startstopbuttonimageselector').

I know there is a Google Checkout API, but that seems it is more for creating a shopping cart, and interfacing payment methods w/ Google Checkout. Is there any management tool that allows one to 'easily' communicate with the customers? Automate a thank you message, or something?
In addition we have already had one customer call to say he had multiple $1.00 charges for our $0.99 app.
I purchased our $0.99 app and sure enough, I have the following holds on my account 02/20/2009 5399 GOOGLE $1.00 02/20/2009 5399 GOOGLE $1.00 02/20/2009 5399 GOOGLE $0.99
This does not seem right, especially if someone is buying more expensive applications, or using a one time use card.

I want to use a number of ShapeDrawables in my application, which are all similar, but with different colours etc. Obviously I could just define them all in separate xml files, but is there a more efficient way to have one xml definition, instantiate various objects and change the colour either in code or xml? You could perhaps do this by calling mutate() on one ShapeDrawable defined in xml, but this returns a Drawable, rather than a shape drawable.

The configuration seem to allow it, however both widgets show up with the same label in the "widget list". I guess it may be a bad idea to do so as well due to shared space and multiple widgets needing to behave quite differently with different requirements.

This is for an Android application but I'm broadening the question to Java as I don't know how this is usually implemented. Assuming you have a project that targets a specific SDK version. A new release of the SDK is backward incompatible and requires changing three lines in one class. How is this managed in Java without duplicating any code(or by duplicating the least amount)?
I don't want to create two projects for only 3 lines that are different. What I'm trying to achieve in the end is a single executable that'll work for both versions. In C/C++, you'd have a #define based on the version. How do I achieve the same thing in Java?

I'm starting out and trying to unzip a zip file back to source. I'm using this code, my source is call "/mint/sdcard/Out.zip" to output "/mnt/sdcard/Out.text" and it seems to work. Now, if I have many files in Out.zip how do I automatically unzip all files individually with the correct filename without creating Out.text and then write onto it?

I love how SharedPreferences work in android and I would like to know if there is an easy way to save them to another file so I could load a previous instance of the prefs and vice versa. Basically when you load this file, all the preferences would change to how you had it before at once. I want to be able to swap 3 or 4 different versions of the same pref keys in this way. Is there an easy way to do this?

I have a button which I want to occupy 75% of the screen:
On a 480x800 resolution screen this would be 360 pixels wide.
On a 280x320 resolution screen this would be 210 pixels wide.
How do I go about specifying this in my layout XML file?
I understand there is a DIP unit of measurement, but does that also work to scale screen images for resolutions? What DIP measurement would I use for this, and do the images need to be saved at 160dpi.

I've searched to no prevail. id like to start developing apps but am having issues getting the environment set up. I have the jdk properly installed.
issue 1 (main major ):
I've installed the android sdk from multiple sources, but when i try to start sdk tools, the command prompt flashes/ opens briefly and i get this message:
"Failed to execute toolsandroid.bat: The system cannot find the file specified."
Do i need to change a PATH variable or something...
I cannot get eclipse to run. when i try to open the exe file ( because there is no short cut icon...?) it gives a message about not finding a companion library... ive try to change the properties in the file that is supposed to fix it, but it was already set the way its supposed to be. this is not major as i can use a different IDE.
so im completely lost as to th sdk tool. I just tried adding the file path to the android sdk ( PATH variable) and it still did not work... I also just tried start the android,bat file and the cmd promt flashes briefly saying somthing about xcopy is not an operable command...etc couldn't read all of it... I am on windows 7 home premium

I have 2 questions regarding a ListView in Android:
How can I get the color of the listview's focused row ? I tried to use the ListView.getSelector() method, which according to its documentation should give me what I'm looking for, but it's giving me a Drawable object which I don't know how to retrieve the color from (if possible...).
How can I set the color of the listview's focused row ? Here I tried to use the setSelector() method on the listview, passing it a ColorDrawable object, but the result of doing it is that the whole background of the list view is painted in that color... and this is not what I wanted of course...

When using the "selector" to specify different images for buttons for different states, such as pressed, focused etc, do I have to write an xml file for each button? I have about 15-20 buttons in my app, so was wondering if there is a way to write just one xml and refer to parts of it?

I'm looking for suggestions on how to go about adding a ListView selector that is 'permanent'. By this, I mean a single row in the ListView is always highlighted; it should move up or down in reponse to any D-pad presses (i.e. like the default selector) but also remain set/highlighted if the user were to scroll the ListView in either direction (i.e. it's still highlighted even when it's off-screen).
I've looked at using the standard selector mechanism, but am unable to get the selector to remain in place if the ListView is touched (and thus scrolled), so it makes me think that this isn't the best option? Perhaps there's a <selector> "state_*" that I've ignored?
The other option would be to use the onItemSelected() callback, but at first look this appears more convoluted?
Any suggestions/recommendations/experiences gratefully received.

what I would find really usefull is a voicemail greeting selector that would allow you to record different greetings for different situations, personal, business etc. Record and then title the message which then becomes selectable from a menu. Ideally linked to a button or shortcut of some kind.
For example if I am out of the office I redirect all calls to my mobile, if I am unavailable my personal greeting is used via my network provider. Not very professional and to change this every time would be impracticle.

I have a listview with a custom item_row.xml. I've defined a selector in this way:
CODE:................
And then put into item_row.xml in this way:
CODE:...................
I want 2 things:
When i move with arrow keys, the item selected changed its background. It's works fine with the actual implementation of selector.
When i press a item, the item changed its background too, but it doesn't work with the actual selector.
I try to set also into the ListView android:listSelector="@drawable/list_selector" but it doesn't work neither.
