Jun 29, 2010Is there an app that will automatically trigger the loudspeaker when the phone isn't next to my head? Then revert to normal once the proximity sensor sees it's at my ear again?

View 7 RepliesI am working on an android application, where there are 4 activities. Activity1 is main activity and there are different buttons on that activity which can open other activities. Other 3 activities can also open each other. There is a thread running in Activity1 which returns some counter. I need to show that counter on all activities. At an specific time, the thread doesn't know which activity is at top. What is the right way to control this scenario, such that thread output should update on all activities, no matter which one is at top?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat I am looking for is an app that will set the ringer to silent or vibrate based on GPS location. Such as, when I arrive at work, the phone goes silent, when I leave it goes back to normal, when I got to church, system goes silent.
Of course I understand you would have to initialize each of these locations for a set ringer behavior.
Is there an app that I could install on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that would turn it into a Whiteboard that I could control from my Galaxy S4 or my home desktop PC?
I'd like this to put in my mother-in-law's room. At the moment, I'm using an actual whiteboard, where I maintain the Day and Date, any appointments coming up (she thinks she has one every day; in reality, it's one a month at most). Most importantly, it has the location of my wife (and me) and our phone numbers (m-i-l can drive a "steam" phone, but mobiles/smartphones are beyond her).
There are also answers to key questions, which come up about 40 times a day:
Q: Did you have a dog as a child. A: No, I was allergic to dogs. Q: Was the bombing bad where you lived during WWII? A: No, I was still a sperm/ovum trying to meet, during WWII.
Keeping this up to date is a task that the tablet could do almost by itself, once I'd told it to display the Day and Date, and pertinent facts.
If there's nothing off the shelf, what are appropriate means of tempting a developer to build a bespoke app? I used to be a website author before I retired, and I could almost do this in a day, by setting a browser on the tablet to repeatedly fetch a webpage from the Apache server on my desktop PC ([URL]... but don't get excited; it's the dullest page on the web). However, I'd like the tablet display to be utterly void of any controls, because m-i-l is an inveterate finger-poker. She's probably avoid the buttons on the tablet (they're hard to find in the leather case that holds mine)
If I get all of this working, then I'll need the strangest Galaxy Tab 10.1 accessory: A flashing neon sign, saying "Read this" with an arrow pointing to the display...

View 1 Replies View RelatedA lot of the time I leave my phone on its desk charger. I would like to be able to set it up so that anytime that I receive or make a call when it is charging the loudspeaker mode will be automatically turned on. That way it can be used as a speakerphone. Is there an app that can do that please?Alternatively is there a little switch widget that I can put on my homescreen and which can toggle the loudspeaker mode on and off? I want this to usable when I first set the phone on charge, so I do not have to fiddle about with the phone when a call comes in.By the way I am still running a stock Orange 1.5 ROM.
View 14 Replies View RelatedHave many of you had the issue that only the earpiece speaker or earphones work, and the handsfree loudspeaker doesn't kick in, unless you're making a call and choose handsfree? This is particularly annoying when listening to music and you want it through the louder speaker, or if you set an alarm, or receiving calls...... Anyhow here is an article: Motorola DROID Experiencing Main Speaker Issues | PhoneNews.com. Surprised I haven't seen more about this on the forum.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm speaking as a formal HTC user, Had the HTC Eris for over 6 months, before that, the palm Pre.... and being around my mother with her HTC Hero (cdma) her phone ringing all day long it was impossible to ignore that thing, dang loud and clear.
My previous phones both had VERY loud and rich speakers on them (the speaker the ringer/music/sound affects come out of), even in some noisy environments it was impossible to miss a call when I had service, just the week that I've had the droid X, I've missed several calls either from not noticing the vibrator in looser pockets or its just too dang quiet.
Speaker placement is bad too, sitting the phone on a slighty soft surface like a chair can muffle the speaker to nearly impossible to hear 6 feet away.
I'm hoping the droid X doesnt have a hardware deficiency and that this can be fixed through software... My best buddy has the droid x also, his is just the same, very quiet vs my old Eris put side to side.
guys please let me know.I m new to X10 family.i m not able to find loud speaker in my mobile when i cal.so guys plzz help me out wher it is.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I call someone and I'm in a private environment, I like to hit the top left loudspeaker icon at once so that I can do other stuff with both my hands until the other end answers. But with the Sony Ericsson Xperia, the loudspeaker icon doesn't appear until the conversation has started. Which means first that I have to hold the phone next to my ear until the other end answers, and second that the screen has gone black, and if I still want to use the loudspeaker I have to tilt it or press a button or something (which always feels like it takes forever) to wake it up so that I can access the loudspeaker icon. Can you make the loudspeaker icon appear at once the phone number has been called, instead of .wait for connection.wait while ringing.go black.still wait for some more ringing.screen is black, tilt, tilt, furiously click wildly at screen,Btw, can you also make the phone wake up faster while during a conversation.I have a small problem with it going black when I am calling centers with automated answering where I need access to the numbers to enter selections in the automated menu.

I am trying to get an alert when I get to my home. But, it looks like I am not receiving the message. Googled around quite a bit, but to no avail. I am able to get the LocationListener to display my current location. But, proximityAlerts are not working. The problem might be with the setting up and receiving the broadcast messages.
Following is my code...
I'm trying to configure proximity alerts that will be feed from a Database and webservice provider; but I have a problem configuring a simple proximity alert for testing. I manage to create the alert but it never gets fired, I'm only trying in the emulator for now and donīt know if I need some extra code to trigger the alerts. I've read somewhere that the GPS provider to disabled so the network provider can be used in order to trigger the alerts on the emulator.
My code looks like this:...................
I wrote a simple app that uses proximity alerts and after installing it on my G1 found that battery life have been halved at least. It's so bad that phone needs to be recharged mid-day or it completely dies by 9pm. There is no polling of any kind - just proximity alerts (3 of them). I tried with GPS turned off (using network triangulation for coarse GPS location) but battery life is still abysmal. Is there a general solution to improve battery life with proximity alerts or the whole GPS thing is a non-starter on G1s?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am adding a proximity Alert with an expiration of -1 (does not expire). I am testing using an Evo. The proximity Alert fires several times after entering the location and staying inside the location. I was thinking that the proximity alert should fire once when you enter the location and fire once when you exit the location. Should the proximity alert fire multiple times after you enter the location and stay inside of the location?

View 2 Replies View Relatedsorry if this has been asked, but now that the psx emulator is up and running. what games do you guys think translate best with a touch screen? I was thinking Broken Sword, or some of the point and click games? I have a hard time controling fast motion games on the touch screens, and using 8 buttons and two controls stick on a 3.7" screen is tough for me. I was hoping that there were some simple controlled type games to try.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to determine if an Android user has had a close proximity to a list of predetermined locations. I'd like to do this with the least amount of drain on the phone's battery. The two mechanisms I see for accomplishing this are proximity alerts and requesting location updates. What are the pros and cons of the two methods? Will one have less affect on the battery than the other? In either case I would guess the specific location manager used would have some affect power usage (existing Stack Overflow answer).

View 14 Replies View RelatedAnyone still having problems with the black screen? Have downloaded and installed the ota update and if anything the problem is worse! Seems ok on incoming calls but if I make an outgoing call the screen goes blank and the only way to reactivate is to hit the power key. This is starting to sound like faulty hardware to me. I read that the ota update was supposed to sort this! Any advise would be appreciated as other than this really annoying problem the phone is great!

But then I realise it's still calling! So I try to bring up the notification bar, though whenever I try to place my finger near the top of the phone, it automatically turns of the screen. After 20 seconds of trying, I've already lost money and afterwards people call back or message me why I've been calling them. Anyone else had this problem yet?
