Android :: Prevent LED - Camera Flash Requiring APPS From Marketplace
Mar 11, 2010
Is there a particular flag that we can use to prevent apps showing up in marketplace which require the phone to have a Camera Flash /LED. typical apps are ones which make the phone act like a torchlight in dark , i have seen a tag which prevents apps requiring autofocus in a camera from appearing in the marketplace. Just looking to find out if there is something similar for camera flash.

I found that the old bug reported in http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1578 where only a power cycle brings back the camera still persists with the official Cupcake firmware on my ADP. When it happens - and I've encountered it several times in a few days now - no camera application can access the camera. A power cycle is needed to recover from this locked camera state.

Ithere a *secure* way to hide android apps without requiring to root? By secure I mean that the invisible apps cannot be easily found by other users and would require password.
I know Go launcher provide hiding app function, but it is very stupid. Anyone can just click on the "hide app" button and see what is being hidden....

Flash 10.1.95.2 is now available in the market place. After the OTA yesterday there were issues with CBS.com and a few other sites where Video and Audio were out of Sync and Audio sounded real bad.

Is it possible to write an application to prevent the Android handset from storing the capture picture? My thoughts are
a. Hook onto native camera apps and monitor for camera capture (or events). Once there is a capture event, my application will be able to detect and maybe remove the capture picture
b. Continously monitor camera capture picture storage. Are there any known i/o api l can use to do this?
c. Prevent all writes to the OS. Possible?

Hi everyone, I recently flashed sapphire 1.0.0, frozen yogurt, bugless beast 0.4 with clockwork mod recovery V 2.0.1.3, and had success with all roms above, except for the fact that in sapphire, i'm greeted by the droid setup tutorial, which is completely non-responsive, (I remove the setupwizard.apk from the Gapps .zip which causes it to set up without a hitch), and in all of the mentioned roms, when I attempt to use gmail, gtalk, or the market they all crash on startup. In the market I see a hint of the EULA before im booted back to the home screen. I'm coming from 2.2 build number "voles-userdebug 2.2 FRFxx 49593 test-keys".

I have an activity that I want to show up when the phone goes to sleep. However, the phone wakes up when I press the volume buttons or the camera button.
I tried using the dispatchKeyEvent(KeyEvent event) method, but it doesn't prevent the phone from waking up.
How else can I disable that functionality?

I installed some apps hosted on mediafire (Gallery3D, Voice Search, etc). I was following links from a well known page recommending tips and improvements to an HTC Desire. How do you uninstall stuff like that? Normally you have to go via the market, but in this case I can't.Having read the thread on unsafe apps, I'm worried I've got these things from an untrusted source.

I just got a new Nexus ONe for AT&T and some apps that I believe should be in the Marketplace, specifically Quickoffice, MLB At Bat and ChompSMS, do not appear when I search for them. Does anyone know why this is happening?

I have an activity that shows up when the phone screen goes to sleep/turns off ie turns black.
For some reason, the phone turns on when the volume buttons or the camera buttons are pressed. By turns on, I mean the screen wakes up or comes back from the black screen state.
I've tried using dispatchKeyEvent(KeyEvent event) and the buttons are disabled on the activity, but they still wake up the phone.

I am running a G2 Touch (HTC Hero) on T-Mobile UK with version 1.5 of the OS. I have now found THREE paid applications that are not on the marketplace when I search or when I use barcodes (Twidroid Pro, Record It and Flight Director.I can see other paid apps so it's not that none are available.What can cause these apps to be missing? Who should I be calling, emailing, screaming at?

Any thought on how the Marketplace handles the information related to the marketplace applications? I wonder if the request is posted to the marketplace every time client is started or if some of the available applications data is stored locally and refreshed by the background service.

If you could only choose one of these, which would you have chosen for the Fascinate? (Obviously it would be best to have both).

I created a signed apk. I uploaded it to marketplace as usual. I also installed a copy of it on a device directly, perhaps as an email attachment.If I upload an updated version of the app to the marketplace, will the device be notified that a new version of the app exists on marketplace? Or does that update-alert system depend on the app being originally installed through marketplace?

How to view the comprehensive list of apps in the marketplace? Do I need to buy a handset AND the service with it to see the marketplace? I don't want to start developing before I know what the market really looks like. The android.com website offers only a few apps.

There is thousands of missing marketplace apps on the Wildfire marketplace, compared to the marketplace I can see on my HTC Legend. Same country, same carrier.None of my apps are on there either, none of them copy protected, and none of the particularly complicated to tied to a specific screen resolution.

I know there are threads dealing with app loading on the Captivate, but I am still confused. I read the sideloading sticky, and came out more confused than ever.I am a current Tilt2 (Winmo) user, and am considering buying a Captivate.Are you only able to install apps that you download through Marketplace? If so, is there any simple way to get around that? My boyfriend has a Sprint Samsung moment, and all you have to do is use Astro file manager to install apps which you have saved to your SD card.Is this not true on the Captivate?I definitely would not want to purchase a phone that doesn't allow third party apps.

I was wondering if anyone else had this issue. I had backed up my apps from astro and reinstalled them on my new replacement phone. But my installed apps from astro do not sync. So the free ones I gotten can easily be reinstalled through marketplace but the ones paid I have to rebuy them otherwise I won't be able to update them. Please let me know if this is a common problem or there is something I can do to fix it.

I have an Activity X which is only accessible after you've entered a valid credential.
How can I prevent other apps from calling startActivity with an Intent pointing to X?
e.g. Intent intent = new Intent( this, ActivityX.class );
startActivity( intent );
Basically I don't want Activity X to be exported to any apps except my app.

I did a hard reset and then upgraded my firmware. I then went to re-install all of my previous applications and noticed that some were missing from "My Downloads". I then went and did a search to locate them in the marketplace and got no return, as if the application doesn't exist any more.

Do you know any application to prevent other applications from reading your personal data (contact, identity, history, ...) ? That would be great to be able to use our phone without giving away to unknown company/people our very personal data.

How the heck to I stop Virtual VM and Messages from automatically starting and running in the background every time I get a text message or voicemail? I have already downloaded/installed and set chompSMS to the default text app. Even though text messages will open/send in chompSMS automatically, the Messages and Virtual VM apps will still automatically open and run in the background without telling me. Since they sap up so much battery life on my Eris, I want them to stop opening.

I have purchased several apps through the Google market. Updating to Froyo required a system reset for me so the apps had to be reinstalled from the market. My google checkout and login ID are the same but Google charged me again for the apps and they showed up on my CC. Tried to resolve through google but gave up in frustration trying to find some way to dispute or rectify the situation. I disputed the charge through my CC but I have a feeling that is going to cause more trouble. Surely there is some way this is SUPPOSED to work and a planned way to rectify easily when it does not.

I'm writing an app that needs one or more applications/services that are distributed with their own seperate apk file. I'm writing a user-app that allows the user to upload pics using a service. The service can be used by multiple user-apps, not just mine. I'd like to have the service being installed in its own apk, instead of bundling it with each user-app. Has anyone had experience with this scenario? What is the best scenario i should implement so that the user downloads the service that the user-app needs? Can be this be done automatically (that would be best)? If not, in your opinion, what would be the most user-friendly way for doing so?
