Just something I have been thinking about. It is possible to create an android layout with just a TextView widget and no Layout code (e.g: inearLayout, ScrollLayout), but if I try to add anything else to the XML file all sorts of errors start popping up. Is it possible to create a Layout with just widgets?
Also, if it is, how?

how should i make widgets and fields in android table layout all having different widths ...in first row i have 2 fields but in second row i want to have 3 fields so there should be different width of fields in row2 than fields in row1.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm building a layout where the user has to enter a lot of personal data, like full name, birth date, birth place, weight, sex, etc.. I'm using EditText widgets for capturing that information using the layout editor in Eclipse.
The issue I'm having is that after 4 or 5 EditText widgets I don't have any space left in the layout to drag and drop more widgets. I tried adding them manually in the xml view, but when I run the layout, I get a lot of them overlapped in the last row of the screen. I tried adding them to a ScrollView, but I had the same result. I can't find a way to continue adding widgets with the possibility to scroll down the screen so they can all fit in a single layout.
In Java Swing programming this is a trivial thing, so I don't think it's too complicated in Android development.
scrollable meaning by the user touch he can can go up and down in the layout given this is what i did and the emulator throw an exception null pointer somthing and i have problems figuring out from where it comes ....

I have tried adding: setPadding(0, 1, 0, 1) to my CustomView constructor, but this doesn't seem to have any effect. It was pointed out that I should use margins. Since I am dynamically adding views, I need to set the margins from code (not in xml). I believe the way to do this is below, but it isn't working.

I was just trying out with table layout to display some data....The data is a 3 column data and i want that the columns should utilize the whole width available. But it seems that the layout XML code which i had used is just wrapping up the columns according to the content.

But, I want the top TextView to always "stick" to the top of the screen (regardless of orientation), and I want the bottom TextView to always "stick" to the bottom of the screen. Then I want the middle TextView to always fill the available space in between (again, regardless of screen orientation). Is it possible to build a GridView object in XML with 3 columns and 4 rows of Image buttons? It doesn't seem to have similar containment relationship like LinearLayout or RelativeLayout viewgroups.
I want to do this entirely in an xml layout file. When I put ImageButton xml tags inside a GridView xml body, The layout panel in eclipse is throwing an exception: UnsupportedOperationException:addView(View, LayoutParams) is not supported in AdapterView.
