View 2 RepliesMy work email requires the phone and external storage to be encrypted to use the Microsoft Exchange server for email.
Email worked fine while on ICS and rooted. After upgrading to JB 4.1.1 (kept root with vodoo root keeper ) the email stopped with a notice I needed to change my security settings. There was nothing I could change.
Deleted the account and when I try to set it up new- I get a message that I can't continue as the IT policy requires external encryption.
Under security> encrypt SD card>Setup data encryption Memory card (along the top) and apply (along the bottom) are grayed out.
I erased the SD card and that did not work.Tried to continue setup without an SD card- no go.
From everything I've read I should be able to encrypt my sd card on my i747 but only option I have is to encrypt phone which I've done. Should I be able to encrypt my sd card on this? I have my camera set to save my photos etc on my sd card and would really like it encrypted. I've tried a few of the photo hide programs and they all move the photos to the internal sd card if you hide them from external sd card. If there was an app that would keep them on they drive they are located on I would worry about the sd card encryption as much.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am new to android and I got myself a Micromax A110 running on android ics with 2 gb of internal SD card memory the internal memory just isn't enough for installing heavy games and storing and downloading large videos and music, so I added a 32 gb external micro SD card.. the card shows in my file manager and its contents are accessible, most apps like ttpod, ttorrent, vlc, chrome etc don't detect my external card. They only access the contents of my internal SD card, download to it.. I can't set the default directory to the external card...
When I installed nfs most wanted to my phone, it asked me to free up data in my SD card or insert another one as there was no space left due to obvious reasons of my internal SD card being filled with other apps.. I uninstalled and reinstalled it after setting the default storage location to the external storage... I found that the game installed in the internal storage this time and on startup, it gave the same message..
Is it a common problem or a limitation to the OS? Does my phone needs to be rooted for the purpose?
how can i move apps to external SD card in android
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy application allow to download files and store them on the external card. To avoid filling it, I've implemented a safety check so it prevents downloading when the free space is less than 20MB. The computation of the free space is done by:
public synchronized long getFreeSpace() { if (statFs == null) { statFs = new StatFs(getExternalStorageDirectory().getAbsolutePath()); }
return statFs.getAvailableBlocks() * statFs.getBlockSize(); }
which I presume is correct. In fact, it works in all my tests and for what I can say for the 99% of users. But a single user notified me that my app is constantly giving the "card full" message, as if the above method didn't work. He also told me that the problem went away after a while, and returned after upgrading a new release of my app. The user seems an advanced one, and I think he's able to check and correctly manage the contents of his external card. He reported that the card has more than 1.4GB free on the card. Are you aware of any specific issue or bug? The smartphone of the user is a Dell Streak with Android 1.6.

If a phone needs to be replaced, what good is it to have the backup internally? View 3 Replies View RelatedI know an SD card gives you extra memory for media files, but since the phone comes with 16GB is it really necessary? The basic iPhone 4 comes with 16GB and I don't think most users are clamoring for more.
Does it help the SGS speed if you leave most of the internal memory free (only using it for apps) and use the external card for all your files?
Or does it just provide an opportunity to go crazy with storing files, like an entire season of a TV show for instance?
All that being said... yes I did spring for an 8GB SD card but is it money well spent... who knows.
When I setup my A100 (running the ICS OTA update), I didn't have an SD card installed. It created it's own "fake" sdcard which applications use.
Now that I've added a real external sdcard, I can't get the applications to use that for their data instead of the "fake" location.
I've copied everything from the "fake" location to the new sdcard.
I suspect the problem is that the new, real sd card is called "external_sd" and the old, "fake" location is called "sdcard".
Do I need to reinstall those applications?
I am NOT trying to move applications to the external SD card; I just wants apps that normally store data there to do so instead of in the "fake" location.
Also, I am not rooted.
My Samsung Galaxy note II now runs Android 4.4 Kitkat after latest updates. The problem is I want my caera app to store its pictures on my external SD card. and this is not possible. furthermore every app is not able to access my sd card. How can this be corrected ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIf you enable device encryption on devices with external sd card, the external sd card always remains unencrypted. As you cannot really control for every app where to store its data, you have some of your app-data on internal sd (encrypted) and some of you app-data on external sd (encrypted). To me this seems to be a security hole, concerning device encryption. why cm team does not include encryption for external sd cards, like some oems do? They put so much effort in security features and on the other side they leave parts of the local storage encrypted?

How can I get my OS to allow bigger than 4gb to download to my 32gb sd card.
