I have a simple activity program in android. Basically the class just extends Activity.
But when I start it I get a ClassCastException in the constructor of my class. I don't even have a constructor defined, so it must be in the constructor of the superclass which is Activity. Unfortunately the debugger doesn't give any detailed information on what class it is trying to cast. Here is the stacktrace:
Thread [<1> main] (Suspended (exception RuntimeException))
ActivityThread$PackageInfo.makeApplication(boolean, Instrumentation) line: 649
ActivityThread.handleBindApplication(ActivityThread$AppBindData) line: 4232

And when I look into this runtimeexception I get:
detailMessage "Unable to instantiate application com.test.MyApp: java.lang.ClassCastException: com.test.MyApp" (id=830067694464)
The only code is:
package com.test;
import android.app.Activity;
public class MyApp extends Activity {
}
When I tried to create a ViewFlipper inside a class which extends LinearLayout, its throwing an exception
"java.lang.RuntimeException: Can't create handler inside thread that has not called Looper.prepare()".
I am creating the ViewFlipper using,
ViewFlipper flipper = new ViewFlipper(ctContext);
But when I create the ViewFlipper in a class which extends Activity, its working normally. What may the reason?

XML is the following: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <GridView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/gridview" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:numColumns="2" android:verticalSpacing="0px" android:horizontalSpacing="0px" android:stretchMode="columnWidth"android:gravity="center" android:layout_margin="0dp" />

I don't understand, do I need to create another class? Or do the AnimationDrawables just not go in the filename.java?
And if I do need to create another class, can you show me how?
I want to build my own custom view which should look like the Crysis-GUI.At first I designed a XML-based Layout and made it visible via the setContentView(int resid)-Method. Worked pretty well.But now I wan't to go a step further and draw in my Layout. So I created a new Class, let it extend View and overrode the onDraw()-Method. So far so good.But how can I still use my XML-Layout? I can't do setContentView anymore, so how could the same effect be achieved?
View 1 Replies View RelatedCan we place a small view over another large view? For example, i have a VideoView which is playing a file in the background. Over this, somewhere in the middle/corner, I want to place another ImageView.
But in Linear/Relative Layout, views can be placed only one after another or relativ to each other. And Absolutelayout is advised against. So what do I do?

I want to add a view inside a FrameLayout programmatically and to place it in a specific point within the layout with a specific width and height. Does FrameLayout support this? If not, should I use an intermediate ViewGroup to achieve this? My initial idea was to add an AbsoluteLayout to the FrameLayout and place the view inside the AbsoluteLayout. Unfortunately I just found out that AbsoluteLayout is deprecated.

I' have a view that contains several textViews an ImageView and a Button . Because on small screen devices (or in landscape mode on big ones ) not all are visible I use a Scroll as the parent of the whole hierarchy to allow the user to view all the information. The things are suck that the button must be at the buttom of the view . However on big screen device , where it remains enough space at the buttom , the button is put immediatelly below the last textview,and seems to occupy all the remaining space (resulting in an unnactractive view) . Trying to use android:allignParentButtom ="true" not only that it has no effect but it puts the button at top of the screen . Has anyone any ideea how could I accomplish what I described ?
